Yeah, a desktop running MBA specs, and you still have to spring for the peripherals yourself.

The original intent of the Mac mini was to serve as a cheap Mac for consumers wanting to have a taste of the apple ecosystem, and the primary vector of entry at that time was the Mac, so it made sense. Today, most consumers enter the apple ecosystem via the iPhone, and then get a Mac to complement that experience. In this context, a cheap, entry-level desktop Mac no longer makes sense from a strategic viewpoint, because most users aren't buying a Mac first, then an iPhone.
Most people are buying an iPhone and a windows machine at a fraction of the cost of an iMac. Apple is happy because they make tons of money selling iPhones, hence the neglect the mac lineup has experienced.

Plus, I think SOME of these Projects were waiting until they got moved into the Spaceship. Ever think of that?!?

It's 4 years, not 5.

MR just had an article on that a couple of weeks ago.[/QUOTE]

4 or 5, is still a Joke. or 10 years for the external design of the iMac. Or another several years for the Mac Pro...

Apple really does not care about computer innovation anymore. They are turning into a luxury phone company.

Taking any bets on what’s courageously removed this year? Right mouse button clicks? The ESC or Q key? Maybe the space bar since you can just tap or special-swipe the nearby trackpad?

Told you so! Apple were never going to get rid of the MacBook Air. A true Steve Jobs classic.

I personally couldn't care less about a new Mac mini, but I'd appreciate them finally upgrading it.

There is a reasonably large niche that desperately wants one and Apple has probably already lost a substantial amount of it.

Same. I had one years ago but don’t need one now. I can see it’s niche though.

They will all be too busy complaining about what it has, doesn't have, should have, should not have, etc.

Hahahahahaha too true!

Agreed, I'm waiting for the Mac mini to get it for my parents.

Tried to get mine on to a Mac for so long. Had no luck. Pretty sure they’re stuck in their windows ways.

I never expected to see the MBA disappear. I fully expected some element of flexibility to the customer usage to disappear, however! I was not disappointed (not even a single USB-A port) in my expectation of being disappointed with Apple's continual "design more for the future and not today" credo.

Ironically, the new Mac Mini's come with a plethora of ports...including USB-A. So, a stationary device prime for adding a stationary USB/port hub is blessed with ports for flexibility of use, while....a "portable" device is hamstrung with port-hate, relegating the user to tote along dongles or hubs with their portable device. Genius!
