How cool to support an iPhone from 2018 with its own operation system! Google would never

xrOS will have an iOS-like interface that will feel immediately familiar to Apple users as it will resemble the look of the iPhone and iPad. There will be a Home screen with app icons that can be rearranged, as well as customizable widgets.

This is already drives me mad on AppleTV using a remote control. I cannot imagine doing it precise enough with my own hands on a floating "screen" unless you are a doctor.
I'm pretty sure that's exactly one of the core selling point of this headset, if not the main selling point: The first VR/AR headset to offer gesture controls that are precise enough to match those of using a computer mouse or trackpad.

You put it on and can work any kind of app available on iPadOS, But you everything is controlled through hand and eyes gestures, no need to touch anything.

I'm speculating that Apple is implementing some sort of next gen FaceID tech but using it to track your the movements of your hands and eyes instead of biometric identification.

The market is void of AR/VR headsets that you can pop on and accurately control an operating system without the need of additional physical controllers.

Very precise, hands-free computing, no matter where you are, or if you're sitting, standing, moving.

I agree - the Apple TV remote drives me nuts sometimes. Lots of unintended clicks and opening apps that I didn't want to open. Hopefully navigating the xrOS interface won't be as fraught.

One thing that saved the experience for me was when I realised that you could double-click the 'TV' button on the Apple TV remote to get an app switcher to display - I use that most of the time now to move between apps, rather than the main display/app grid...

Omg, I had no idea! Thanks for that

It does seem like the headset announcement is happening, trademarks getting registered is a solid proof in my eyes. And that its WWDC indicates they see it as a new platform and also see the importance of software and the overall experience… looking forward a bit more to WWDC now.

In my heart this will remain the only true Xros. Apple can't take that away from me.

I care not about xrOS. I have no risk appetite to experience software bugs in my eyes tied to my body movements and each new yearly major xrOS update risks becoming slower and more uncomfortable.

Odd name. Especially considering the iPhone XR. Sounds like an OS specifically for it. As someone else has mentioned, Apple has always told us that X = “Ten”.

Will it Flop or take off like a rocket ship ? I’m cautiously optimistic, but I think it will need to be extremely compelling to convince the mass market to consider it. iPhones are already cool enough and comes with iMessages and the App Store, so why would a consumer spend much more on a device they probably can’t use outside?

That X meaning ten has always been standalone, it’s not in xrOS.

Extended reality? I guess that makes sense. I was excited for realityOS though. That sounds so cool. xrOS doesn’t flow as well as I’d like. But then again, Apple knows what it’s doing!

Autocorrect is already suggesting it??

Am I the only one who thinks xrOS sounds clunky AF? I realize it's not that different from tvOS but at least "TV" is an everyday word that flows off the tongue. xr does not.
