Again, sad what apple has become. :(

I was disgusted by their last commercial will they ban that too? :D (/s)

so sad

And, of course, don't forget that a child seeing a nipple will immediately result in the death of that child. Because nipples are dirty.

Let me summarize this....

Spoiled kids now can not see screenshots with weapons of violence on the app store!! First world problem and people here think this is so sad!!!

And then you wonder why this world is so fkd up!!

Amateur hour over on the App Store team – but when has it not been?. This takes liberal nanny state censorship to a whole new level. They ought to ban violent movies from the iTunes store, too.

It's getting a bit ridiculous. I want to see a statistic about all the lives that guns save, or all the lives that could have been saved, if someone had a gun, as in the many school shootings around the country lately, but I know I'm not going to find it, because, as we all know, guns are scary... This kind of thing boggles the mind.

Really....I seriously doubt that number of live saved because of guns will even come close to the number of lives lost to guns.

----------

So are Vehicles, Knives, Swoards, etc.

Vehicles...not so much

knives...more for cooking

Swoards...sure but how many of them are really out there causing mass killings?

I didn't know Vehicles and kitchen knives are made for killing people. I guess we learn something everyday.

Anyway, it's pathetic the obsession of people with weapons. What kind of parent would be upset for their kids not being able to see a stupid screenshot containing weapon of violence on the AppStore?

It's not about guns being scary. It's about the mental influence that exposure to guns have on people over many years, particularly when they are younger. It's about Apple not wanting to reinforce the message that "playing with guns" is okay. I agree with this policy. We are exposed to too much violence in our world, and mental health is declining. We can't ignore the influence that such exposure has over the long term on the greater population.

Everyone that disagrees with this would quickly change their mind if their life was personally affected by some gun-toting idiot.

Amen.

Several people have already suggested simply not showing the apps in the App Store, rather than censoring the screenshots. (Just as if they weren't on the store.) The entire App Store doesn't need to be "age-gated."

Screenshots are intended to accurately depict what the user is getting. Censored screenshots will probably give rise to other problems like users complaining that they thought they were getting pixels, when they actually got guns.
How "not showing the apps in the App Store" is a solution? If these apps are not in the App Store how are people supposed to buy them? This is worse than censorship.

Apple's suggestion is simple enough: do not use screens showing extreme violence in your screenshots. Seems pretty easy to do, regardless of the content of your app.

Funny... I've been face to face with guns numerous times in my life. Gangs have been around for years. Longer than video games.

And, every time I've had a gun in my face, I've been unarmed. And I always walked away uninjured and never given in to whatever they wanted. Guns don't kill people. It is the people who kill people. And people who want to kill people will use anything they can to accomplish their task. If guns aren't available, they'll use something else.

Being calm, and smart about it, and gaining control of the situation is really your best defense against those who might threaten you with a gun or any other weapon. Simply put, they aren't that smart... And if you are calm it's really just a matter of using your intelligence against them.

And in reality, one could actually make a strong connection between the poorly educated and violent actions. So we could just as easily point the blame at our educational system, or the snobs who greedily refuse to use their wealth to benefit our poorer citizens and youth. Imagine if everyone worked on helping everyone instead of focussing on how wealthy and extravagant they could make their own lives.

Street thugs are actually among the easiest to confuse and manipulate their mind. It's basic psychology. And it's more powerful than guns.

Some of those who were the most feared gang leaders in the area at the time are now among people I count as friends many years after our original altercation.

Their guns didn't kill me. They would have had to pull the trigger. The gun couldn't act on it's own. And, you have to always remember that you are dealing with a person, not what they are holding. You face the person, you handle the person. The gun is an object, just like knives, sticks, rocks, steel bars, etc. are objects that could be used to injure or kill you.

Everything in the world has the capability of being used in some fashion that could be used to injure or kill you. Everything can be a weapon. That's a basic in self defense, evaluating your surroundings and turning anything you have at your disposal into a weapon if needed.

Always remember that there is a person holding the object. The object is actually harmless in itself without action from the person holding the object.

And, for the record, I don't like guns. I don't own one. But I also don't fear them or consider guns to be the problem. It takes a person to make a gun dangerous. That person who would try to kill you would still find a way to try and kill you even if there were no guns.

And video games don't turn people into murderers. People who desire to kill people already have that in them. And, for the record, while I havd been exposed to numerous games in every genre, I don't like video games either. So, no bias there either.

If you really want to know what the most dangerous weapon in the world is, it's hands. Hands are involved in, and used in some way to commit the vast majority of violent crimes. Maybe we should outlaw those...

Where have you been living.... for like the last 5 decades or so? Movies are age restricted and movies that contain violence have 18 restriction. A very clear warning shows up at the beginning of the movie too.

Don't ever take your kids to a toy shop then. God forbid they see a little toy soldier with a gun there or something.....

speaking of violent video games. I always wondered how appstores can get away with selling those I mean amazon for example can only sell adult video games after you show your ID to the delivery guy to proof your age yet anyone can buy anything on an appstore. weird

I like how you underlined first world problem

It makes the phrase so much less banal

Well three cheers for Mr Miyagi here, but in reality, this isn't about you, it's about the world. Lord knows I don't like everything Apple do, but at least I applaud them for taking business risks for the sake of their principles. It makes a refreshing change to the other tech giants.

I like gun games, I like replica guns, and I kinda like real ones too, but I'm mature enough to know that just because I like something doesn't mean the world is a better place for having it around.

Guns are not nice things, and perhaps Apple believes that we shouldn't live in a world where the image of a gun is viewed as such a positive thing that companies can actually use those images to sell products.

This whole thing is just silly. What about a large portion of American pop-culture that's pretty much trying to demoralise and attack any positive moral value in our society, like gangsta-rap, softporn-pop directed towards children, and the latest American pop culture-invention: Illuminati+satanism+porn-pop like Kesha (ie. Die Young), Beyonce, Rihanna and many more. Btw. these artists are pushed on children, you'll find their songs on "Hits for kids" and books about these artists written for children. But Apple worries about pictures of guns? Pathetic.

(I'm not a Illuminati conspiracy theorist or religious. I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy, and that American artists like the ones I mentioned pretend they are "Illuminati" to create a myth around themselves.)
