Better Times are coming

Hmmm can I get a version of the google application for a cracked iPhone? or something similar to it?

I so cannot wait till Verizon goes over to LTE/3G.4G and the iPhone is on there network. AT&T's greedy. Apple should learn that loose lips screw others over. It'd be a waste of time and money but what if Google Sued Apple over this?

Sure would be interesting, heck sue AT&T also.

Now when Apple comes out with there netbook or tablet or what ever there calling it this fall, its going to be on Verizon's network , that should be a catfight right there.

If T-Mobile just had better coverage

Google Voice, oh yea

No, it won't be.
Apple won't put CDMA architecture in a tablet because they could only sell it in the US.

And this is getting REALLLLLLLY stupid.
This exclusivity really needs to end.

Oh yeah, and Apple isnt known to be a closed, restrictive company. Well done sir.

What's the point of GSM if you are (in all legality, of course, notwithstanding jailbreaking / unlocking) locked to At&T / Rogers ?!

what baffles me is that things like skype and such are allowed but no google voice. does apple have something against google?Apple better approve the app by tommorow or something and say its a "mistake"

life is integrated with google, not iPhone

i am one of those in the camp of switching to an Android mobile device; after of course a better design comes out other than the crappy T-Mobile version.

i use google calendar, gmail (and contacts), google notebook, google health, google voice, latitude and more. up until now Apple (and AT&T) have been pretty playing in the same sandbox with google pretty well; however, with these latest waves of rejections by Apple it really makes me want to leave iPhone.

do not get me wrong, i LOVE iPhone... in fact, i am currently on my 17th (or so) one because i buy new ones when i break my old ones (drop, water, alcohol, whatever) so i am for sure a fan of the device and all things apple; however, with my life (critical life pieces) so closely integrated with google it seems to make sense that i go the android route so that i can take full advantage of the services i chose to use.

YMMV but this is my opinion

Google is really a company that you want on your side, not against you. Eventually Apple might actually upset them. I don't think this is the case yet, but eventually. The Iphone is the best thing on the market now. But I really think Google will be a big step into making other phones just as good, if not better.

This will be interesting to watch.

I've had it. I'm going to wait and see what kind of Android phones come out on Verizon. I can't put up with this garbage anymore. It feels like I'm living in China.

This is baffling on the part of Apple. It's one thing to jerk around little guys trying to make a buck, but Google is a big player. I wonder what power Google has to pull Google maps from the next iPhone? Or, bringing a suit against Apple for anti-competitive practices. If Apple allows a single application in the store that duplicates iPhone functionality, then Google could have a strong case. Unlike all the little guys Apple has jerked around, Google also has the money and legal staff to make this a publicity nightmare for Apple. If spun right it could really hurt iPhone sales and really help Android.

Pretty simple - locking/unlocking aside, it allows you to make a single device and sell it everywhere around the world...it's about manufacturing economy of scale.

89% of the market and 220 countries use GSM - sort of a no-brainer when debating which technology to target with a global device.

That's it, Apple/AT&T. You got two years and then I'm done.

BOO. I was waiting for this app, and I didn't buy GV mobile (the unofficial app) because I was led to believe Google's official app was coming out. Now I really wish I had supported the independent developer before Apple did a complete 180 and pulled the app.

This is the most ridiculous development yet in the sea of BS that has been consistently emanating from Apple in recent months. I'm not going to threaten with "OMG I'm gonna Jailbreak now," because it's not realistic and from what I've read it's not worth it at this juncture and I don't think Apple cares all that much anyway because they're still selling the hardware. I shouldn't have to go to the trouble of Jailbreaking to use an app like this.

BTW if you hear someone say this app somehow costs carriers more bandwidth and that AT&T is just protecting its interests, know that they are just plain wrong. The app doesn't do VOIP calls over 3G or anything crazy like that. What this does do is give out features for free that dinosaur AT&T is still charging for, such as web-accessible voicemail, one phone number that rings all your phones and other really nice stuff that AT&T charges significant extra fees for, despite the fact that these features cost them little or nothing to provide.

I have a little under two more years left with my iPhone. This means Apple/AT&T have two years to figure out that it's really in their best interests to quit this anti-competitive device-crippling crap. If they don't, well... I'll just go somewhere else.

WebOS and Android will definitely have well-developed app stores and mature devices two years from now and I'll be absolutely thrilled to switch to a more open device with a cheaper plan on a better network. Hell, maybe even Nokia will get its ass into gear by then (very doubtful, but hey, a man can dream).

I really like my iPhone. It works great, I love all the apps, and the browser is amazing. But it's not hard to see the path we're going down when Google can't get an app like this approved.

The $175 ETF is seeming more of a bargain each day...

Anyone know what happens to the GV app I already have installed on my iphone ? I am getting sick of this crap too. Who the **** wants a freaking app that plays farts, jokes and crap but doesnt want a GV app. Come on Apple your app approval process is now LAME

#FAIL

and why not? tons of other vendors do. the 3G card in a tablet/laptop would almost certainly be a PCI Express Mini Card and easily exchanged.

And Apple already sells different laptops in different countries - they don't all have US keyboard layouts...

Agreed. A developer friend of mine pointed me to this guy:

http://is.gd/1R4RP

Who has about 20 apps, all starting with the letter a. He releases updates for all of them every week, with "fixed a bug" as the thing that has changed. Either Apple needs to relax the rules for people making decent apps (Google), or they need to pull the reigns tighter and clear out people making junk to try to get a quick buck. Because this middle of the road thing is really annoying.

I don't think this is AT&T pulling the Google apps, it doesn't make sense. This is all Apple, baby.

Yet ANOTHER whiny thread about how "AT&T and Apple" are horrible companies. I can see why this was rejected.

What this app allows is the "cheap" people a workaround to getting around having to pay for larger text message and minute plans, and from a business standpoint, I understand why it was rejected. These companies aren't out there to give us everything for free, the whole point of a business is to make a profit. If you want the phone, get it. If you don't like it, stop whining and get rid of it. Simple as that.

As for me, I'm perfectly happy with my phone just the way it is. :D

It feels like I'm living in China.

Ridiculous post of the day award.

Ok, I don't know much about GV, but I have to say, I don't see how this could be allowed on the iphone or any other device. If I'm reading this right, it would strip the telecoms of a huge amount of revenue. And as much as we all love to rip on them, at the end of the day, we need them because google ain't providing coast-to-coast cell phone infrastructure.

Some tell me if I'm misunderstanding something here, but isn't GV a massive slap at all telecoms?

This kind of idiocy from Apple and AT&T pretty much affirms my decision to go back to Verizon and get a Blackberry (especially now that RIM is in the process of launching a proper set of sync tools for Macs). Wow, I'm glad I never bought in to the iPhone - Apple gets more capricious every day with the App Store.
