At $45-$80 (https://www.quora.com/How-much-does-cocaine-cost) per gram. I don't think Cocaine dealers care that this was rejected. The developer states its margin of error is 3 grams. which is $135 to $240, depending on area and specific dealer. That is too high of a margin of error when you can buy a dedicated scale for $100 that is accurate to the thousandths of a gram.

You sure do know a lot about cocaine ;)

Yup! I gotta agree this app is super cool, but it is something I don't want to buy for now. This is the kind of creative ideas gives me hope about 3D Touch. There's so much talent out there that Apple need to be encourage instead of being threatened. If this idea is legit why not encourage it as long they are reasonable. Just like the flashlight app as long that they put on their disclaimer the limitations of the app. Apple need to focus on what they need to focus like security for iOS. They need to keep an eye of developers that are scammers or the most recent security they have in Chinese appstore.

I don't want metal spoons nor fine powders anywhere near my iPhone's screen.

I think this app just invites people to misuse it / potentially damage their screens by trying to weigh heavy objects, people, trying to see who can press the hardest, etc.

I think this app is fantastic! For once, it is a clever hack, and you have to like it just for that. But secondly, with my phone already having replaced my flashlight, my calculator, my alarm clock, my camera, my newspaper, my city map, my calendar, and my dictionary (oh, yes, and my old phone of course too) - in order of importance -, now it can also replace a balance!

I love how you put a link to the price of cocaine.. I know if you didn't, you would be called a drug dealer by some on here :(

As long as what you want to weigh fits on a spoon and the phone is naked.... I'm not one to trust powders or liquids on top of my phone. This is more a show off app than a real life helper, if it would have been free then I'm all up for it though
-------------------

BUT, I went to their page and they had a small cup on top of the iPhone and I though that would be much better than the spoon, I wonder if you can use a small cup like that or change the zero out container you could then use one of those small plastic lab dishes to weight things THEN this app becomes more interesting. Maybe the error margin became too high

If you could zero in to whatever you want then I would try it with disposable lab plastic plates and or petry dishes, but I think you need something conductive which is why they use a spoon?

Anyways the app dev should either put it in cydia or hook us up with a github source :)

Hmm this may be a good idea for drug addicts, the iphone 6s already has overheating issues so let that heat up the metal spoon with Crack rock....lol

My first thought was that some dumb-dumb would use this to weigh out potentially deadly substances and OD.

C'mon now. People use regular scales to weigh their drugs all the time. You can't ban all portable scales because of it. And more then likely it would be the dealer using the scale, not the user.

And more then likely apple rejected the app because of the potential damage that could occur by spilling the substance you were trying to weigh (liquid, powder, etc) onto the screen, speaker holes, etc. Apple isn't going to want to deal with all the people trying to get free replacement phones because apple approved the app.

Not sure why this is news, really. There are indie developers out there writing apps all the time that don't make it through and don't get any free publicity, but this one does? How about those indie developers who write apps that make it onto the store but never get any publicity?

Are we all supposed to know who this Ryan McLeod is?

I stand corrected.
From the sounds of it, you won't be pissed.

This app is a dumb gimmick anyway and who would want or need to weigh raisins on your iPhone anyway? And if you were a drug dealer, a margin of error that big could get you killed.

But then, what should we make of apps that take advantage of 3D touch to:

Measure finger trembling in Parkinson patients
Alert users of excessive pressure while carrying the phone in a pocket/purse
Measure wind speed
Identify deformations after a will-it-bend test
Alert the user when the phone is left under a pile of stuff
Measure muscle contraction
Check blood pressure
Lock down valuables
Oversee fair snack sharing
Evaluate head bumps
Find breast lumps
... ?
