Java 5.0 - At Bloody Last...

Hi Guys,

Something that I just noticed is that Java 5.0 is available from Apple's download page for OS X 10.4. I've been waiting ages for this and now it's available. Yay!

Java SE 5.0 Release 1

You can't view details of the download (hence the crappy general link) but you can download the .dmg file, which is the important thing... :D

Just waiting....

Amazing...to think I was not going to update my Mac until my tiger disc arrived! I noticed Quicktime 7 is now available via Software Update on 10.3.9. Getting it now!

I don't under stand. Why does the new QuickTime page, Download page, Mac OS Server page, etc... look so much better than the Mac OS X Page. It just looks so bad and unprofessional. I hope they change it tonight when they launch Tiger at the stores.

Got payed today! Ordering Tiger this week end! :D

PS: I don't know if it was posted somewhere else but QuickTime 7 for Mac OS 10.3.9 is available.

I have had Tiger for two days but waiting

Having loaded Tiger, I clicked on "More Widgets", and was directed to an Apple page which demanded a password. Not user-friendly.
I'd be wary of Tiger: it's broken my Safari, Preview doesn't show the right Thumbnails, Spotlight is VERY flaky. Be warned. You may be better off sticking with 10.3 until they've sorted Tiger out. :(

I'm waiting for stability checks from OSX.4 community before I install. Things are flaky enough with 10.3.9. It's hard to resist because I have always been an early adopter but I have to many important things going on in my Mac at this point. Everyone, keep pushing the Tiger envelope.

Take a look at .Mac page, what the crap.......stylish and simple apple.com has gone...quicktime page look quite good but still too much color and look wired for me.

I got that too. They're updating the site throughout the night I think. Reloading the page gets rid of it.

it's broken my Safari

Perfect for me.

Preview doesn't show the right Thumbnails

Finder > Get Info is your friend.

Spotlight is VERY flaky.

Very solid for me. But make sure you give it time to index before throwing searches at it. You can tell when its indexing by running 'top' in the Terminal. If the lines:

mdimport
mds

show CPU activity, Spotlight is still indexing. You'll get disappointing results until it's finished. Usually 10 mins after throwing a lot of files on the disc is long enough.

Be warned. You may be better off sticking with 10.3 until they've sorted Tiger out. :(

Probably good advice, and Walt Mossberg said the same, but you just try telling that to the stampeding crowd!

Typo

The first typo

Picker 1.1
Find and choose the right websave color.

It should be websafe color.

Downloads.

Widgets, spotlight, and automator actions are a nice addition. I can't wait to see what comes out. Anyone have any suggestions on how I can get apple-tab to switch applications to work with a multi-button mouse.

I suspect you are part of a minority here - I erased and clean installed Tiger, everything works perfectly.

As for the Widgets, I think Apple has started a large market here - much, much larger than the market Arlo Rose created with Konfabulator.

Whoever makes that NetFlix app would do well to add a Dashboard companion :)

I clean-installed on an external drive first, then bit the bullet and did two straight upgrades of 10.3.9 machines.

Both are working perfectly, no application issues (except for little snitch, which turned itself off). Been running for a few days now (thanks MacMall!).

The package tracking widget is really cool.

BTW, a tip from a developer: cmd-r reloads/resets a widget. The visuals on that are really cool.

I received my copy of Tiger yesterday and today I get an email from Apple saying there may be a delay in my shipment. Their store still says "preparing shipment." Hope they send me an extra copy :)

The website keeps asking me for a password when I load it every once in awhile, both from my clean install and my upgrade. I think the website is just messed up. Try reloading it a few times and it should work.

Incredible stuff!!

i'm surprised some of these things cost money. i guess it's up to the discression of the developer, and some of the spotlight plugins and whatnot i think are more like references to updated applications which include those plugins and widgets, but some of the things (photoshop automator actions) are just kind of rediculously priced it seems. i just assumed most of this stuff would be free.

I guess you didn't realize that Apple now charges for Firewire cables and nickles and dimes you at every turn....Well I am all for charges by developers it will make them money and bring more innovation to the platform if they see a return on the many hours they put into their work....

I love the SMS widget....The per user charge is fair and what a time saver....Also the photoshop automators are awesome...

For the people looking at an Ebay widget I know a team who is making a $10 program that will blow people away...June release he says.

just a quick Q.

when i download new widgets where do i put the files?

i know that just double-clicking them makes them open but they don't get added to the dashboard bar.

any help?

when i drop my widgets onto the main screen, it dont make that water ripple effect like it shows in the preview on apples page, is there a setting to add this or am i missing something?

EDIT: nevermind, i guess i need a better video card to do it, my macmini is not the powerhouse i thought it was

Theres a widgets folder in your library. Many widgets load there automatically when downloading. Thank Spotlight for finding this quickly ;)
