Apple Releases $200 Pro Apps Bundle for Education Customers

It's impossible. Google (or Microsoft) will dominate the public education market over the next decade. Apple hardware is simply too expensive for schools. When budgets are as tight as they are for most school districts, the fact that you can get 5 chromebooks for the cost of one MacBook Air means it would be terribly foolish for schools to buy macs.

I agree that apple hardware is obviously more expensive, but man are they cheaper in the long run. I am a teacher in a school with almost exclusively PCs. The computer I am on is an '09 iMac and it runs faster than any of the 2 year old pc's around here. I don't think its foolish for schools to buy more expensive machines because value≠cost. I am sensitive to the fact that most of the time, school budgets are short-term monsters

Apple is doomed :)))

Screw them.... always US first.... why?? it's SW??!!!! NOT HW!!!!
very disappointed.....

Wow.. this is a pretty sweet move by Apple. This rekindles some belief in me that the Mac is far from dead, and will be seeing some decent updates this year.

The total cost of Final Cut Pro X ($299.99), Logic Pro X ($199.99), Motion 5 ($49.99), Compressor 4 ($49.99), and MainStage 3 ($29.99) is usually $629.95, so the bundle offers educational customers over $400 in savings. The bundle must be purchased through the Apple Store for Education.

The link for Logic Pro X currently goes to the page for MainStage 3 (whose link is also correct). For those wanting the page for Logic Pro X, see: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/logic-pro-x/id634148309

Darn! I just bought FCPX at full price a month ago.

Unlikely Apple would offer me the deal retroactively. Guess it wouldn't hurt to ask...
I know a few people who got a few hundred back on computers they'd bought a month before a spec bump from Apple. Like you said, doesn't hurt to ask.

Nice to see discounts like this return, even if it is US only so far. Some years ago when I was a student I bought the boxed version of Logic 9 direct from Apple for £99 rather than the £600 that it was selling for at the time

Anybody has a link to UK bundle?

Only US at this moment of time.

United States only?

At this moment, yes..

EDIT: this will probably expand to other regions soon, I hope at least.

These things usually start US only and then filter to other countries.

I didn't expect that Apple would do this for the rest of the world ..

I guess I was right.

Update: Apple tells me that its Pro Apps Bundle for Education is coming soon to countries outside the U.S. that offer an Apple Online Store for Education, such as Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom. (Just to name a few!)

Did they give any indication what "soon" is?

Does anyone remember back when Apple had education version Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro and there were difference between regular retail price (500 dollars or more) and educational edition? Is there a difference? I'm not talking about price..but features or something?

Not foolish. Macs last a lot longer. You get what you pay for.

Any idea if there is a way I might get the bundle if I purchased Final Cut and Motion recently? Just these two combined cost 150 more than this bundle...

I wish they would bring back iPhoto, because Photos app totally sucks.

I am still using Aperture because I really like it. I tried to move to Photos but I really don't like the UI and it really misses a lot of features. To me it is unusable. I will not go to a subscription model so Lightroom is out of the picture. I am very curious each time a new OS is released if Aperture still runs, so far so good (knocking on wood)

I've been considering stepping up from GarageBand to Logic for sometime now. The fact that I can actually Final Cut & MainStage for the same price (I'm actually a student) really sweetens the deal.
