Yet Apple has no problem still using foxconn to make their iPhones, a company which has to have suicide prevention nets to catch despaired employees from killing themselves

Ok so find me a company that is ready to get to the production levels Foxconn has to make future Apple products.

Why cannot apple products be made here?

Where’s ‘here’ to you?

Apple is not perfect but, they are trying. I applaud them for that.

This.
Someone has to lead. Eventually others will follow (if only by the scruff of the neck), and things will improve - even incrementally is better than nowt.

Well, if you look at the fact that they still need to be powered overnight when renewables aren't being generated, yeah I could pick that out and claim it isn't 100%, but the fact is they do more than most companies.

To your mention of “renewables” - wouldn’t that make more sense strictly in relation to “solar energy”? Otherwise, it would be forgetting that renewables also include wind and hydro, sources that can generate energy during the night.

Correct, renewables often encompass a wide variety of energy sources. Consider: http://www.caiso.com/TodaysOutlook/Pages/supply.aspx --- For the state of California that I am in. Love watching stuff like this. Renewables in the hydro, geothermal, wind, etc... do continue at night but often times there is not enough to supply a hungry data center. That said, Apple probably offsets this by overproducing solar and pumping back into the grid to cover that usage. (An assumption). :)

As of 10:05am PST - the state is 53% renewable powered.

This is technically not possible. By sourcing minerals from nearly any country in the world, you are by definition financing armed conflict.

The report (which you obviously haven't read) states that Apple purchased minerals from Japan, Switzerland, Netherlands, and Canada.

What armed conflicts are those countries financing with the money received from Apple?

There are several answers. Tim Cook has already answered this.

Yes but the strange thing is that Foxconn is having a factory built here so are the workers to get less pay?, plus then apple products could be made here.

Apple sources from the Dutch? *looks at iPhone with new appreciation* They did all this with diamonds and tulips?!

They should look at responsible repairability, modular replaceability and planned obsolescence and how they impact the environment.

That’s also up in the air too and will have far fewer employees than they initially said they would. Last I read, it’d be more of a white collar location.
