Apple Releases 5.1 Update for 2nd and 3rd Generation Apple TV

YouTube app is still there for all those wondering.
However, due to the icon reordering feature requiring you to hold down the select button, you can no longer hold it to put the Apple TV to sleep. There may be an option to change this in the settings but I haven't come across it yet.

I'm really on the fence about buying this. Not that $99 is alot, but I just want to be sure I'll use it enough. I have 2 kids that occasionally watch Netflix, and they both have iPods...thinking they could Airplay their games to the screen. I have Direct TV so I'm not sure I'd watch a ton of TV on it. The photostream is great, but aside from showing pics to family from time to time...
Someone tip me over the edge, what am I missing here?
Do it! You'll be happy you did. Every movie I have in my itunes library is viewable on multiple devices in my house. Music and video and other media can be streamed from multiple devices to my flat screen tv and/or audio system. Any TV you have with an ATV plugged into it is now basically a smartTV. Nice if, like me, you have nice flat screens that came out prior to having internet capability.
Anyone else care to add to the list for Allenbf?

After restarting apple tv and then applying update seems to have worked for me.
Problem: I have an iCloud AppleID that is separate from my iTunes Store AppleID. The iPhone and iPad let you enter these IDs separately, so you get all your iCloud syncing from one and all your purchasing from the other (this is also great because it allows you to share a single purchasing ID for all your family's devices while letting everyone sync all their iCloud stuff separately). But I don't see any way to do this on the AppleTV, am I missing something? Until that happens I can't enjoy for example the PhotoStream sharing because I have to use my iTunes Store ID.
Also, why is there no NFL apps for the AppleTV? I have MLB and NBA, and I have an NFL Rewind subscription, but I can't watch it on the AppleTV. There's an iPad app but it doesn't allow AirPlay to be used.

Actually, it's a really cool product. Especially for only $99. Refurbished from Apple all the time for $10 less...
Stream audio and / or video to the big screen / speakers without having to move anything. Access to iTunes purchases.
I do miss the hard drive that the old Apple TV had in it, but this has enough other things that it's quite useful.

Hmmm, I haven't had any issues with mirroring and I use that feature 4 days a week.
Dexter and Weeds are on Netflix man. And I'm pretty sure all are available via iTunes.

Maybe for some dolt who does not understand the intended use.
I pipe content from my iMac all over my house with it. I have on in my living room and one in my kids play room. They can watch there shows in either location. I also send music to it as remote speakers from my iMac.
So yeah, its useless if you don't have any content.
Last I saw Netflix only had seasons 1-2 of Dexter and that much was removed last year.
If I'm mistaken, please correct me because I'd like to continue the series without 1) paying a fortune on iTunes or 2) subbing to Showtime (which I know has great series, but there's enough good stuff to catch up on for now like Mad Men and Breaking Bad).
No, you're missing something. I'm not sure what.
But my iTunes are on a different e-mails (with different passwords, so I know they aren't linked somehow) than my iCloud and I can see my iTunes purchased movies and also my iCloud information. I just double-checked.
To be clear, I did not yet do the upgrade.

This is a very welcome update (especially account switching, also icon reordering). But Apple TV could be SO much more. And I think it will be, just can't wait for it to happen. Hopefully with some attention to EU, not only US.
Can't agree with this one. I see this as probably one of it's best. I use this EVERY night at home. DirecTV never goes on. It is just AppleTV
I think I'm going to do it, I have a birthday in 2 weeks and my wife has already asked me what Apple product I want, within budget of course. ;-) $99 really is an awesome price point. I've read quite a few people who have said it's worth 2x or 3x that.

What do you mean? I watch all the Weeds episodes on the ATV. Not into the other shows you mention, but I do have others I watch.
