Apple releases $99 iPhone 6s Smart Battery Case, Apple’s first official battery pack iPhone case

Out of the blue, Apple has today launched their first battery case, the Apple iPhone 6s Smart Battery Case for $99. The case comes in Charcoal Gray or White and is compatible with iPhone 6s or iPhone 6. The case is like the Apple Silicone Case, with the addition of a back bump for a battery. Third-party iPhone battery cases have existed for a long time, this is the first version of the product from Apple itself.

The integrated battery will increase iPhone talk time up to 25 hours and Internet use up to 18 hours on LTE (an increase of 8 hours). The battery of the Smart Case is displayed in the iOS UI, thanks to the integration between software and hardware.

The battery case includes a passthrough so you can still plug in other Lightning accessories whilst the case is in use. The product is available to pickup in Apple Stores today with delivery as early as Thursday.

Well that case is ugly as ****.. And the website only says that is supports iPhone 6S's, no luck for the ones with iPhone 6. Also Morphie Juice Cases are a lot more elegant than this one within the same price range. Apple just give us a bigger batterie so you don't have to design ugly cases..

Actually the Apple store page says it supports the iPhone 6 too.

This confirms Apple is not happy with the battery life in the 6 and 6s. Hopefully with the iPhone 7 battery life will be much better.

Why are people disappointed that there isn't a case for the larger 6 Plus and 6s Plus? They have much bigger batteries. If you find yourself charging a 6 Plus or 6s Plus during the day, you're using your phone too much. Put it down and live life a little.

this is to deal with the whole tsmc vs samsung issue imo. given that most complaints were because of battery life. Wheres the plus version of it? I know the plus has a larger battery but if i could charge it every alternative day then all the better. Hopefully apple brings out one for them.

It has nothing to do with the TSMC vs Samsung chips. Tests showed there was a 4-6% difference in battery life. Apple didn't release a brand new case just for this. They've just realised that, eventually, the 6 and 6s don't have great battery lives.

This is the most non-Apple story I've read today. This is for all you people that want a thicker iPhone for the battery life improvements...

I would've preferred they found a way to put in a bigger battery for a case that's uniformly thick.

No, it doesn't.

It does confirm that Apple would like to make more money though.

It does! They haven't released a battery case for the larger models. If they wanted money, they'd create a case for both sizes! They want people who have either a 6 or 6s to have the same if not better battery life that those with a 6 Plus or 6s Plus.

Keep drinking that Koolaid. Tastes good, doesn't it?

Cheers. ;)

To be honest i dont care how it looks, as long as it does its job at a Festival or a long bike ride using Strava then it's a winner for me.

That is the product of desperation. A rushed design job, so ugly it has to be a wind-up.
If they put a decent battery in the phones in the first place.....

At least make it available in Rose Gold.
I agree - it seems rushed and doesn't improve on what's already out there. In fact, it's worse because the battery could have expanded for the whole length of the iPhone. If it sits flat on its back, you can rock it forward and backwards (great ).
