I agree, it sort of makes me think they're going to try to steer people to an upcoming device that is built on iOS and can act as a local cache for iCloud features. Maybe like a Time Capsule+Apple TV.

iCloud is not a hosting service. So there is nothing to cache.

It's more accurate to think about iCloud as a sync service between all your iOS devices. In fact, iCloud does not even store your music online, its a match service. No more Gallery, photos will be removed after 60 days, iDisk is gone, web hosting is gone. iCloud Documents is just a set of document syncing API's. Tell me what else is there for your TC to cache?

Hmm, since updating it's now flashing yellow and saying that my MobileMe password is wrong. Which of course, it's not.

I've got an old MobileMe account as well as an iCloud account and both show the same error. Removing the login details from the AEBS fixes the problem.

Anyone else getting this?

It was so much easier with the MM functionality. Come on Apple this can't any more difficult then BTMM!

I am worried about losing BtMM function on AEBS too.

And also the ability to managed my TC + AEBS remotely through MM.

If they don't migrate this function to iCloud, we will be left with nothing after July next year. :(

Have you migrated from MM to iCloud? I haven't. Don't want to do it until the my time runs out. I have so much stuff relying on MM. Snow Leopard, keychains/mail accounts syncing....

I was having this problem yesterday before the update was released. After verifying that my MobileMe user name and password were correct, I disconnected the power from my Airport Extreme waited for a few seconds and then connected the power again. There is no error now.

I've had very gittery FaceTime on Mac over wifi. Wonder if this will sort it.

What a coincidence... I was debugging my Airport Extreme (3rd gen) two days ago because I found the WiFi speeds were too slow and were fluctuating too much. While my internet connection is 40Mbit down (and 4Mbit up), my WiFi speeds did not go above about 26Mbit and the internet connection seemed gittery and unstable. I have been trying different settings to debug the connection issues (wireless g+n, wide channels, interference robustness, manuals channels to not conflict with my neighbours, etcetera) but it didn't get any better than 26Mbit and depending on configuration it even got as worse as 9Mbit (see below). However, when I connected my MacBook Pro over ethernet I got 40Mbit so the limiting factor clearly appeared to be the Airport Extreme and not the internet connection itself.

However, after installing today's Airport Extreme update, the WiFi speeds are again as expected: 40Mbit/s! So it seems that I was not crazy, but the Airport Extreme firmware was buggy :D

Recommended install!

To show you a comparison how my WiFi / internet speeds were before and after the firmware update:

ps. I tested the connection using http://www.speedtest.net and http://www.pingtest.net, and the speedtest page of my cable provider (which is more reliable as it is on the same network and if not affected by high traffic demands at the Amsterdam Internet Exchange).

Awesome, will give that a try when I get home later. :D

I hate having to type in an IP address every time I want to manage an offsite airport device. It was so much easier with the MM functionality. Come on Apple this can't any more difficult then BTMM!

Yes, that is so annoying considering it was such a useful feature on MobileMe.

Anyone having the issue where their AP Express can't be located afterwards? Or printing issues?

Edit: nevermind. This issue went away for me. For some reason my imac didn't want to see my airport in AirportUtility, but it was connected by wifi. strange.

I'm excited to get this update applied when I get home. Had some overlap problems between my TC and Express resulting in my Express being decommissioned. Also, noticed that speeds fluctuated up and down sporadically. Hopefully this will help smooth it out and put things in proper working order.

You're wrong - iCloud is clearly a hosting service. Broadly speaking, any time you store data on a computer that's connected to a network, that computer is "hosting" the data, however briefly that data may be stored. Certainly syncing, as you describe, fits that definition. Further, and without getting into every feature iCloud provides, storage of iOS device backup and email would clearly be hosting services, right? I won't get anymore into the your nitpick of an argument except to say I also disagree that it's more accurate to say iCloud is a sync service, I think that's too narrow a description even though syncing is essential to what it does.

I could imagine the Time Capsule storing more than 30 (it's not 60) days worth of photos and augmenting iCloud storage overall. I also could see Wake on Demand being used to grab data from a bunch of computers, then sleeping them again, and uploading the data from the Time Capsule to iCloud in order to save power.

I just updated mine from my iPhone while sitting on the can. Just thought everyone might want to know it updates just fine from the commode.

Nice. Did mine from the kitchen but again worked great.

The apps are nice and definitely the next best thing after a web page on the router.

I hope this will fix the 'sparse bundle error -1' I've been getting on my Lion machines when they try to backup.

I've been getting the same error on both of my machines since updating to 10.7.2. I contacted Apple about three weeks ago to see what was what, the rep said that an incremental update would be pushed out soon to fix the issue. I assumed this was the update to fix that particular issue, but it wasn't. I contacted Apple earlier today and they said they're aware of the problem, and they're receiving a large number of calls regarding it. I was now told that it'll be fixed with 10.7.3.

Hmm... My Extreme does not see that there is an update... it's running 7.5.2. It's an AirPort Extreme 802.11n (3rd Generation) and no matter what I do it refuses to find the update.. I've tried from my desktop, from my iPad and iPhone.

anyone else seeing this or know how to get it to find the updates?

Works for me

I hope this will fix the 'sparse bundle error -1' I've been getting on my Lion machines when they try to backup.

It's fixed it for me - my MBA has been complaining about backups for a few days now, but after the update it's fixed - apparently by itself...

I'm also getting much faster wifi speeds.

It's peed me off somewhat, because a few hours before I realised there was an update I went and bought some ethernet mains adaptors to try to feed the signal through wires as I was fed up of getting 15MBPS to my Extreme but only 0.5mbps to my Express. I couldn't get the ethernet things to work, so I upgraded the firmware anyway, and now I'm getting upwards of 5mbps... What a waste of £70!

It has fixed it for me too.
:)

The update worked fine on my Airport Extreme, but has killed my Airport Express. It may be a coincidence, but immediately after the update the light died and nothing so far will bring it back to life.
