Was it a "format C:" batch file?Microsoft released a security patch for Windows XP just a few weeks ago...
XP is software still being used by large companies and hospitals. Airport is discontinued hardware. Big difference.

I haven’t logged into my AirPort Extreme control panel through airport utility on my Mac in a long time and I seem to have forgotten the password to access the router’s admin panel, how should I go about applying this new firmware update without the AirPort Extreme admin pass?
Its NAT and LAN to LAN are fine ( And i vaguely remember they don't all work at top speed when you stress test them in all ports, but that is such a rare occasion that should not be a issue ) , but its WAN was kept at 300Mbps or 400Mbps if I remember correctly.
That is not correct. My 802.11ac AirPort Extreme easily handles 900+ Mbps through the WAN.Its NAT and LAN to LAN are fine ( And i vaguely remember they don't all work at top speed when you stress test them in all ports, but that is such a rare occasion that should not be a issue ) , but its WAN was kept at 300Mbps or 400Mbps if I remember correctly.
Umm....I connect all the iMacs and Synology NASs via the ethernet(CAT6ASpec) RJ45 port. Only use wireless for iPhones and Airs. Otherwise similar setup. They're all in different rooms, with the two 4th gen Extremes acting as switches only, with their Wi-Fi APs disabled. Hard wired using CAT6 because I think it offers a more robust connection between each device. It's a setup that works well for my small home network.
I seriously wish they get back into the routers business. I’d buy it in a heartbeat!
Might be encrypted but still can track where that data goes, how much, etc.All the data is encrypted.
If Amazon, Google tried doing so, it would destroy paying customers confidence in both services and a huge breach of trust.

Synology RT2600 router and MR2200 extender. What exact hardware did you purchase? I see the ports are USB 3.0 so are your backups faster?

I wonder what is the feeling of working in the software for an abandoned product line.
On that note, are these security vulnerabilities also going to be addressed on the Airport Express @Beefie ?Not any different actually. We still get paid like any other developer.
does this update fix the bug that Time Machine stop after few minutes starting

If you're talking PPPoE then it will be significantly slower than that, but not as slow as 400 Mbps.

My cable modem is bridged but the main AirPort Extreme is not bridged and is functioning as the router for the entire network. Connection is wired Ethernet.WOW!. When did that happen? Thank You. Did newer generation had better WAN? ( There was only one 802.11ac Generation right ? )
It was the reason I had to switch away from AirPort Extreme because it couldn't run 1Gbps.
Edit: A quick search on the Internet shows I am not the only one having this problem, are you running your AEX as Bridge mode?
Seriously! I have had mine for years and years now, and it just soldiers on even as I add more devices to my household. Unless it dies or my needs somehow outgrow it, I could see using it for several years more.Anyone know of any other company that discontinues a product and then releases a firmware or software update for that product 6 months or more later? Hats off to Apple! Many thanks!
Nice. Are those base stations all connected by Ethernet?Great! I’m glad I decided to get some more of these 802.11ac AirPort Extremes off eBay for relatively cheap to fill out my home network. I guess this does serve as a reminder though to replace my previous generation 802.11n model.
