my airport extreme has been dropping the wi-fi for the last two weeks or so and was never experiencing this before that time , HAS anyone else had this problem????? and has this new update fixed that issue?????

I am having the exact same issue..been working on it for a week, so far no resolution.

Have you tried assigning a specific channel as opposed to 'automatic'?

that worked for me

I have gone from channel 1 to 12 or is it 11 ? (I turned it up to 11 !!!!)

I have tried checking robustness, I have downgraded the firmware, I have reinstalled 10.5, I have restarted in safe mode then back, I have reset PRAM, I have reset PMU...I have done it all...

Tonight I am going to reformat my main HD and put a fresh 10.5.2 and reset the Airport Extreme and reload the 7.2.1 firmware and see what happens...

The problem started about 2 weeks ago, maybe it was the 10.5.3, maybe the 7.3.1 firmware, maybe the airport utility ? Maybe an alien is living in my crawlspace and his telecommunication device is f'in with my airport ????

I have very strange problems with my wifi too. It seems that they changed some portions of the signal handling code with 10.5.3. You can check the system log and you might see "beacon lost" entries.
It is really strange. I tried changing the channels with no luck. But what in the end helped was to reposition the antenna. 10.5.3 is by far too sensitive to the signal strength. And the worst thing for me is that once the signal was away, it did not recover. I had to toggle Airport on/off.
Seen on 10.5.3 with a Siemens b/g WPA router.

Ugh, after installing this update, cannot print any longer through the Airport Extreme. It took me so long to get printing working with my MP610 Cannon, now, it just wont print

I too had difficulty printing to my Canon MP530 attached to a Time Capsule after the update. However, when I removed the printer and added it again I was pleasantly surprised to discover it can now user Canon's native driver w/o any complaint.

Try removing your current printer profile for the 610 and adding it again. It may clear up your problem.

I find it really amusing that people are claiming it makes their network snappier, caused problems with this or that, or asking if it fixes Time Machine.

This is only an update to the Admin application. It is not a firmware update for the base station and it is not a driver update for your airport cards. It is only an update for a single application that doesn't run unless you want make changes to your Airport config. The only fixes are for some issues in the configuration app.

But what that leaves out is that the changes in the configuration app Airport Utility could make unwanted changes to your AEBS without your knowledge and that may not user accessible, such as disabling the AirDisk for Time Machine. I'm not saying that it does, but that it could. The end result is that yes, an updated Airport Utility can have an indirect effect on your network, and you may never know why.

Airport Failure Since OSX 10.5.3 w/Netgear DG834G v2 Wireless Router

Since I downloaded OSX 10.5.3. – and not corrected by the latest airport utility download the other day
I’ve been unable to wirelessly connect with one of my Macs while the other two continue to receive the signal just fine.
I can connect with a cable with no problems, of course.

The MacBook that fails is a Macbook 2.1 with airport cards as follows”
Wireless Card Type: AirPort Extreme (0x168C, 0x87)
Wireless Card Locale: USA
Wireless Card Firmware Version: 1.3.5
Current Wireless Network: Calvin
Wireless Channel: 1

The other (older) Macbook 1,1 that works fine has an airport card as follows:
Wireless Card Type: AirPort Extreme (0x168C, 0x86)
Wireless Card Locale: USA
Wireless Card Firmware Version: 1.3.5
Current Wireless Network: Calvin
Wireless Channel: 1

My router/modem is a Netgear DG834G v2 54Mbps Wireless ADSL Firewall Router – it is about 4 years old.

This happened onc before about a year ago and was fixed by an OS or airport update.

Any ideas short of buying an Airport Express router?

You are mistaken. Everybody lost AEBS disk sharing with 10.5, which worked perfectly in 10.4. It returned for a minority of people with 10.5.1, and presumably for everyone with 10.5.2. Firmware 7.2.1 (and for some 7.3.1) was found to be the guilty culprit.
I concede, there are exceptions to every rule.

First: the airport utility does not update your airport firmware or have any sway over your mac making a connection to a wireless network.

Next: Check for latest firmware on the netgear.

Is there a reason you are specifying Channel 1? Can you allow the devices to automatically hunt for the channel with the least noise?

I just got back from the Genus Bar and while I was there I was catching a little bit of what a couple other Apple Genus' were taking about. They were saying that there was a problem with the Airport utility and some AirPort cards not being compatible, Didn't hear too much of what they were talking about, and I haven't been able to use my Airport for months thanks to my buildings Wi-Fi. Thought I could provide a possible heads up. I guess Apple did not know of this issue and the Genus' and customers are having to find a work around. I guess this guy got it to work.

Finally, one thing that has been addressed is AUTOMOUNT of the airport disk connected to airport extreme. When i double click on a movie in itunes that resides on my airport disk, finder automatically mounts the airport disk and itunes plays the movie straight away!!!

Previously i had to mount the drive manually when I wanted to access something on the airport disk.

There is a lot of confusion in this thread...

This update just upgrades the Airport Admin Utility and Airport base station agent, processes that don't hinder your network connections reliability or speed, those updates are separate entirely.

That said, I have not had a problem with leopard's wireless since day one, I use an express for music and an extreme for internet. I hope those with troubles can figure out whats goin on...

My AirPort connection has been abysmal since Leopard. Even 10.5.3 didn't fix it. It still drops the connection constantly, on all my Apple products (AppleTV, new iMac s4" and PowerMac G5). It's unbelievably annoying.

I would expect this from MS, not Apple.

Speak of the Devil - I had a run in with a grumpy Express (N) this morning, where the configuration screen would hang. Found several post on this; hope this takes care of it.

seems I'm not the only one having strange problems with airport (OK Time Capsule, but it's the same thing, right?)

When just my MBP is on everything is fine but as soon as my wife turns her MB on my MBP just stops receiving or sending any data. It's almost as if her MB is blocking my MBP.

I've tried resetting everything, rebooting everything and changing channel and still no go. It's only happened since I upgraded to 10.5.3

If anyone get the same problem and fixes it would love to know how.

I actually had this problem when using both a MB with 10.4.8 and a MBP with 10.4.11 the other day. I had to shut down the MB and reboot the MBP to get the MBP to get 'net again.
