Haha this one was great!

Yeah... while I'm not saying they aren't somewhat funny... it seems like they've been milking it for a bit too long...

The iPhone is advertised directly by showing users how simple everything is... maybe Apple could somehow do that with Mac OS X?

...

never mind, I like the symbolism more. Much more funny watching PC not be able to talk with the foreign girl while she and Mac get along.

... that's what's wrong with the recent ones! They're no longer computers! They're now representing Microsoft and Apple rather than Windows and Mac OS X! Microsoft spent billions in advertising, not Windows. Windows crashed a lot, not Microsoft (well... Windows literally crashed... Microsoft... blundered... or something... are you getting my point?)

... lol, representing fun on a graph.

Ok, normally I find these ads not funny but this one was really funny. :D

The opening when PC cuts into Mac's intro was hysterical. The timing of it was impeccable.

These commercials are funny to those who "get it" but to the average user, what they should be focusing on funny comparisons of the superior features of OS X over Vista - for example, just show the difference in experience when you try to come out of standyby vs. Mac OS sleep modes - you could start a stop watch by how slow Vista recovers...

I wish i knew what they meant by "fix Vista".. Considering the fact that so many people are using it already and its obviously not causing everyone problems.. The only people i know who've installed it lately have been all "wait, I like this! I thought it was supposed to be terrible!"

I hate people misrepresenting things and Apple are basically using people's ignorance and hate of change (when it is initiated by someone else) against MS.. Which is on one hand funny but not a good precident - if MS did it back they'd have a lot of ammunition too (I don't think they'd stoop that low though)

Vista's already working, I prefer osX but Vista works fine and has some obvious advantages. How long did it take apple to "fix" leopard? Have they even fixed it yet? it doesnt work any more or less than vista in my experience, just differently.

Well when a MS mandated update kills my onboard audio card and no degree of updating or rolling back of drivers fixes it I'm annoyed. As far as I'm concerned 10.5.0 is better than Vista SP1 w/ updates. I never had any problems with 10.5.0 so, in my experience, apple didn't even have to *fix* leopard. I'm sure my experience doesn't speak for everyone but it's exactly the type of experience that Apple is referring to in these commercials.

Incredibly petty of Apple to release a rebuttal ad of a rebuttal ad.

Especially since Apple themselves seem to spend all their time on marketing.

Oh the hypocrisy.

Can someone at Apple also pull the plug on this over-used, dull and rehashed advertising campaign? Try something new ffs

Very nice, but does anyone else find it ironic that Apple is making fun of Microsoft for spending money on advertising, and at t he same time Apple has came out with three advertisements in one week. If any of you don't I sure do. Not only that, Microsoft's ads don't bash the competition; not saying I like them, but still.

When your product doesn't royally suck - you can pretty much do what ever you like when it comes to marketing.

Oh look, another advert telling us how OSX is better than Vista and the qualities it has that make it so!

Oh wait.

I need to finally comment on these ads, especially this one.

I am a huge Apple fan, own several products, loved them since my Apple IIe. But...these are getting old and are not really applicable anymore.

This whole Vista is trash thing is so 2007. Vista has been out almost 2 years and has had a successful Service Pack 1 update. It's being sold on more new PC's now due to XP's shelf life expiring. There's really nothing wrong with Vista at this point and Vista x64 is a great and stable OS. If Windows was such crap then why does Apple support it with Bootcamp and provide drivers for it?

I prefer OS X and maybe this commercial could've held water in the months following Vista's launch, but it's almost 2009 and Vista is pretty solid now. Apple, get over the Vista launch issues already.

They need show WHY OS X is better than Vista, not just why Vista needs to be "fixed". Put up a picture of the new Macbook, show it opening, show the desktop, opening apps, all the stuff it can do with Photo's, etc...out of the box.

I think you're missing the point of these ads - it isn't to directly sell Macs - it's to gain "mindshare" and to get people curious. They want you to be curious enough to stop by the Apple store and see what it's all about rather than see an ad and be like, oh, well my computer can surf the web, big deal. it's virtually impossible to convey all the advantages of using OS X via a commercial (hence why MS "Mojave" commercial doesn't show the OS even once) so all they want is for the person to be curious "what all the fuss is about" and wander into an Apple Store. And it works amazingly well...

Wow, the negativity. Did you not get any sleep last night?

Apple is not rebutting. They don't need to. They are driving home the message that people have a choice, and the one they've been choosing isn't the best. That's a fact.

This is an extremely successful ad campaign. I've seen entire rooms of people pause to watch the ads, and then go back to what they were doing. It's mystical to watch this happen.

And as for Apple spending all of their time on marketing, sure they are. But why not back that up with what you expect them to be doing? They are firing successfully on more cylinders than most companies are capable of.

If you can come up with an ad demoing OS X that people would stop, watch, and enjoy, please feel free...

This isn't about selling OS X, this is about selling an experience. It's about opening the eyes of viewers to new ideas. To do that, they are reinforcing what is wrong with the Windows camp.

I know. I'm trying to build a business, and my team mates currently using Windows. More time (that I have to pay for) has been wasted on Window problems than I care to think about. Meanwhile, my Mac just keeps on purring.

They are driving home the message that people have a choice, and the one they've been choosing isn't the best. That's a fact..

And that choice is? Seriously - what these adverts are saying is

"What you're using is broken, even if you don't think it is and infact you're happy using what you already have, and the alternative is a smug trendy fashion catalogue extract"

Clearly, with market penetration of about one unit in seven, the message ISN'T getting across and if more people had a chance to see a glimpse of what OSX has to offer, they may be motivated to find out more, visit a store, try one, and see some justification behind the 50%+ price premium of Mac machines.

Currently - the adverts are telling them they're a bunch of fat geeky idiots. Which, as Microsoft took the time to tell us, they're not.

In my experience, Vista still has a lot of problems. And the worst part is when something goes wrong, fixing it is a real pain in the ass. UAC can be averted, and all the issues that Apple brought up in the OLD ads still exist.

I do agree that they're losing the point though... it's been too long since they've shown why OSX is so good.... but then again, I think part of that could be because key features like Spotlight and Expose were copied (badly) into Vista... so this is a much safer route for advertising.

There are plenty of technical reasons for switching, but I don't think the average consumer wants to know the benefits of Cocoa, UNIX-based foundations, the file system and all the things that 'just work' :p

So basically... it doesn't suit me, or most of MacRumors, but we're not Joe Blarg that thinks the iMac is sexy but has heard "MACS ARE ****" from too many people who haven't even looked at a Mac since OS9 and the G3 days... and if I was Joe Blarg, this approach would probably help convince me to make the switch.

If :apple: hadna spent so much on these ads, they coulda put FW into the new MacBooks.

Advertising is supposed to bring in far more than you dish out to run the campaign. It's not a hardly profitable 'hobby' like the Mac Mini or the Apple TV... why don't you tell Apple to discontinue those for your FireWire

This is a nice ad as well. What a slam against microsoft. I agree with some in saying that this ad is really good but Bean Counter is better.
