Apple today continued its parade of software updates ahead of the OS X Lion launch with the release of Aperture 3.1.3, providing a long list of improvements and undoubtedly quietly making some last-minute tweaks to ensure full compatibility with Lion.
This update supports general compatibility issues, and also addresses overall stability and performance. Minor issues addressed include the following:

- Improves reliability and performance when syncing web-published albums
- Slideshow exports are now handled as a background operation
- Crop tool now correctly supports use of gestures to define crop size
- Gesture support can now be enabled or disabled in Preferences
- Fixes an issue that could cause a blank sheet to display when placing a book or print order
- Published MobileMe, Facebook and Flickr albums now appear in a Web section in the Projects Inspector
- Shift-clicking snapshots on the Faces corkboard now allows you to make contiguous selections
- Metadata presets are now correctly applied to imported audio files
- Fixes an issue that could cause Aperture to quit unexpectedly when trimming audio in full screen mode
- Resolves various issues when adding names to Faces using accented, Japanese, Korean or Simplified Chinese characters
- Improves stability when browsing video clips
- Addresses reliability of library repair and rebuild
Full details on the update, which weighs in at 292.02 MB and requires Mac OS X 10.6.6 or later, are available in the release notes.

Lion here we come! Great to see an update though. I have had some minor crash/interface issues prior to this update. Hopefully this will solve those problems. Aperture has always been very solid though, as far as the pro apps go from my experience. Final Cut Studio and Logic Pro seem to have lots more issues than I have ever had with Aperture.

Hopefully they FINALLY fixed this piece of crap application. I've never had so many problems with a "pro" app.

Download Size

for me it shows only 189.4 MB download

(I've the Non-Mac-App-Store version)

Doesn't show up in the German App Store too...

Are there any rumors concerning Aperture 4? I mean I hope they will adopt a 2 year release cycle so maybe it will be ready early next year? Aperture 3 is nice but there is still lots to improve...

Does anyone know if the scroll wheel can again be used to navigate through photos from the Viewer screen? This is how it worked in Aperture 2, but they removed the ability on Aperture 3.

there is a setting "Scroll to navigate photos in the Viewer" but i am not sure that is new (Preferences > General)

Mine said 306.1 MB. Odd that everyone is getting different size estimates. I'm up to date with updates (running Aperture 3.1.2), so don't know why my download should be any larger than anyone else's ...

For those interested, there are some interface tweaks running it on Lion, including (and especially) proper fullscreen. Yay!

Seriously....this whole....some updates come through the store, other through Software Update.....is super clunky!

I don't want to have to open the freakin' store just to see if I have an update. SU will check everyday and let me know.

Seems like a step backwards.

I'd love to know if they fixed an annoying problem.
If you use aperture library to sync via itunes to an ipad and the pictures you use are RAW, instead of figuring out what the optimized space of the images is, it uses the RAW space.

I put 5gb of raw pictures on the ipad it goes "oh you have 10 gigs free, lets do it", after an hour of 230% processor time optimizing lo and behold, only 1 gig is used.

But when you try to put 15gb of raw on there that will turn down to 3..it says "not enough room"

grrrr

iPhoto vs Aperture

I have to say, I like the interface of the newest iPhoto and was disappointed that Aperture didn't receive an equally nice update. I only updated to Aperture because iPhoto couldn't handle my large library, and at the time, Aperture was an excellent improvement. Now I think I'd prefer just using iPhoto.
