I'd love to know if they fixed an annoying problem.
If you use aperture library to sync via itunes to an ipad and the pictures you use are RAW, instead of figuring out what the optimized space of the images is, it uses the RAW space.

I put 5gb of raw pictures on the ipad it goes "oh you have 10 gigs free, lets do it", after an hour of 230% processor time optimizing lo and behold, only 1 gig is used.

But when you try to put 15gb of raw on there that will turn down to 3..it says "not enough room"

grrrr

Have you tried using Radar?

Although full-screen mode for Lion is welcomed, it is not as full featured as iPhoto. While you can customize Aperture's full-screen mode to include most of the key features, workflow isn't quite as efficient as windowed mode.

Still slow in both 32 and 64 bit modes.
I don't know what's wrong with Apple, calling this a PRO application.
It's slowly annoying!

Weird it runs amazing on my Mac Pro. In fact I think the new version runs even better!

From what I can see the only thing missing from fullscreen mode is a few browsing views like Faces and Places. Also you can't assign a location while in fullscreen, though you can assign names for Faces. Oh and the sharing buttons for MobileMe, Facebook, and Flickr are not available in fullscreen. In general most of this can be solved if they only would just let you access the menubar like every other fullscreen app in Lion does.

But basically my workflow is not hindered at all by the lack of those things, I never cared about Faces or Places, and I tend to not use the sharing options very much. All the important features are available though.

Was it just me or for about 30 minutes back then Aperture was free?

Apple today continued its parade of software updates ahead of the OS X Lion launch with the release of Aperture 3.1.3, providing a long list of improvements and undoubtedly quietly making some last-minute tweaks to ensure full compatibility with Lion.Full details on the update, which weighs in at 292.02 MB and requires Mac OS X 10.6.6 or later, are available in the release notes.

Ran update, done is matter of sec's , no issues with Aperture, then again I didn't really have any issues with Aperture.
NOW just waitng for Lion!

Any screenshots? I'm curious what changed

Not much has really changed, just tweaks mostly to conform to Lion's new paradigms. The sidebar now functions like iTunes and Finder (with the "Show" and "Hide" text for sections instead of the triangle). Scroll bars are gone, the scroll rubber banding is smoother and everywhere it should be such as in the browser. A couple buttons looks slightly different (like the rotate). Scrolling through images is a little more smooth.

So obviously nothing huge. But nice all the same.

My computer does not see update in App Store, not under software update, any ideas?

update:

delete the app and click install in the app store.

Your GPU sucks apparently

There's no intensive GPU processing for an app that handles bitmap graphics.
It runs graphic intensive games very well. My video card has 256MB so it should be more than enough.

Even with basic tasks, Aperture 3 lags opening files, and doing simple photo browsing, while other apps, including Photoshop run very well.

Mmm. I'm going to disable some plugins to see if it improves.

Hopefully they FINALLY fixed this piece of crap application. I've never had so many problems with a "pro" app.

You must not use many pro applications, they crash all the time. Try and use ZSpheres in ZBrush 4 or the UV Texture editor in a recent version of Maya, it'll most likely crash. Pro apps crash all the time.

That being said I've never had a single problem with Aperture.

Also, strangely, separators are gone from the main toolbar. Wonder what's up with that?

when are they gonna add watermarks for export to flickr, gallery.me.com, facebook, etc?

+1

That really does need to be an option. Im bored of exporting jpegs with a watermark and then uploading those via the frankly annoying flikr uploader.

So you paid $5000 to be able to run a $80 app? Wow!

What is this?

1) My Mac Pro wasn't $5000
2) Aperture wasn't $80 when I bought it
3) I use my Mac Pro for video editing and all sorts of other tasks that justify the power
4) Why would you even post this?

Oh and in response to your other post, Aperture does use the GPU to offload effects processing using Core Image. Though obviously that doesn't help the other stuff you are saying, but I suspect most of that is an I/O bottleneck on your end and not entirely Aperture's fault. The app is definitely not lightweight though, I will give you that, but i've seen it running in latest gen iMacs and MacBook Pros just fine, which is essentially the real recommended specs (Core i5 or better Mac)

I got very bored of clicking and holding a effect adjuster for about 20secs for the effect to change. Since taking out my 5200rpm drive (where the app, library and external linked photos sat) and replacing with a SSD drive, with the photos (library and folders) on an external 7200 FW800 drive, it flys now!

i use the book feature all the time. i really hope they fix all the bugs to do with usability and features.

yep, and IMHO at least 8gb of ram. With 4gb my macbook pro was way too slow to be usable with aperture. Now i have 8gb and it's a dream!

Just upgraded using Software Update. The download took 10 or 15 seconds (fiber optic Internet connection) and it runs well in my mid-2011 27" iMac, 12GB RAM installed. I have many thousands of images and they scroll and load effortlessly. The library is on an external 2GB FW800 drive. Most of my images are from a dSLR but many are scans from medium format or larger and some few thousand medium res scans from 35mm film So the image size is from 4MP to 100MP.

Just thought I'd provide one more data point for people.

Faces still broken?

Does this update finally fix Faces? That is, do I still have to assing names for some faces again and again and again and ...

Also, does using anything other than ASCII characters for names still mess up Faces?

Yes, I am trying to make a point here, Apple. I have submitted these bugs enough times to get them fixed already!

same configuration here, and works really nice.
4GB was ok, once i had the SSD inside the mac.
now with a 2011MBP and 8GB it is really a joy
