Something weird happened. I installed, it rebooted, and then after it actually installed, I was stuck on greyscreen, with a working mouse and keyboard. I noticed it was actually on a textbox, even though there was nothing there. I typed my password and hit enter and it logged me in.

It was on the logon screen without showing anything.

my 15 Retina won't power up after update. WTF? It would make the startup sound while booting up but then goes black!!!

Good thing I backed up first. I am restoring from TM backup now.

Anybody else run into problems???

I installed on two Macs this morning:
MBP 15" Retina, and MBA 11" Mid 2013. All running good.
Fan kicks in full spin while firmware-ing. Installed it using battery.
So far so good.

It's mirracle for you to be able to use the computer again. Usually firmware fail install = brick right?

Just finished restoring and thankfully, I'm back to where I was at earlier this evening.

I have been battling Safari crashes for the past 1.5months. Apple Store ran diagnostics and hardware is fine. After numerous attempts at erase and restore, I finally wipe the slate clean, loaded a clean copy of ML and manually moved everything back. No more Migration Assistant. I treated it as though this was my first mac. Just when it was stable for the past 2 days, I nearly bricked the damn thing.

I have AppleCare for another two years so I can sleep safe.

Check your RAM with the Apple Hardware Test (AHT; the long version)!

I took it to Apple Store and the tech did a diagnostic test. No hardware issue. I will try it sometime though.

It has something to do with Java. It seems when I disable it under Safari preference, it doesn't crash. My MacAir is totally stable running Java though.

I don't see it in MAS for mid-2012 MBA.

My 11" 2012 MBA found it last night. Maybe try again now? Apple's software update servers have been glitchy lately. I've had updates show up on one computer but not another, even though they both have the program installed, etc.

My 15" rMBP appears to be have been bricked by this firmware update. First time in ~10 years of being a Mac user that a firmware update has totally stuffed things up for me. :(

Stuck at grey screen (no Apple logo) at startup. Can't boot from the recovery partition or an external drive. SMC/PMU reset doesn't help. Unable to access internal HD using target disk mode.

Anything else I can try, or do I need to head to my nearest Genius Bar? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

More information: Update seemingly failed to install at first attempt, and reappeared in my Mac App Store software updates after I rebooted. I then installed it again, which resulted in my current situation.

**** happens. Maybe you Apple didn't test update from SMC 1.0 to 1.2
In my case everything working fine . Hope you will fix it.

I hope this fixes the issue that caused my Retina MacBook Pro to overheat the other day while it sat closed in my bag. Even though it was out of warranty, Apple responded quickly to my issue since it burned my hands a little when I pulled it out and I smelled a melting plastic smell once I got it open. It was pretty ridiculous but Apple allowed me to have it checked out free of charge. The initial diagnostics were fine and it has been working ok, but the shop I had look at it recommended some 12 hour full inspection of all the parts which is also covered for free, so once I have a day to give up I'll drop it off. Only reason I think this update might be related is AppleCare had me reset the SMC.

Has anyone else had this issue of your MacBook waking from sleep while in a bag and nearly melting down? It was scary as hell!

Well a couple of weeks back i was using my retina early 2013 and realized the station i need to get of at is approaching so i closed the lid and put it in my bag. An hour later when i removed it the macbook was very hot. I let it cool down when i opened it i saw two of my function keys melted and un useable, I called apple care and they said this is not covered in warranty. I felt disappointed but i still took it in to an AASP who looked at it and had a chat with the engineers who replaced the keyboard in warranty.

That's pretty wild that they weren't going to do a warranty at first. I originally got on Apple's chat support line, the tech started freaking out and told me someone higher up would call me. Within 30 seconds I received a call from an Apple support supervisor. He then escalated the call up to some higher up lady who asked me all these questions making sure I wasn't injured. She was some sort of senior staff who was going to report directly to the Mac engineers what happened and gave clearance to override my expired Apple Care. I was blown away by how quickly they handled the entire situation.

you guys have stricter laws out here even if would be injured they would say its called accidental damage, we do not advise customers to keep their laptops in sleep mode. Anyways they i always have got good support from apple

Anyone noticing sleep issues after this update? Every so often, closing my Retina's lid results in a black screen with a mouse cursor. The screen doesn't go off :s.

I bought a Macbook Air 11" yesterday, got it home and did all the updates including this SMC update.

Less than 24 hrs it shut down and would refuse to start up!
I tried an SMC reset and left it on charge but it was dead.
Now I have another Macbook Air, and am reluctant to update the SMC

Do an SMC reset even if it seems fine now. You should be right as rain afterwards.
