Holy smokes, this just made "compact" usable. I was using "bottom" just for the tab switcher. Thanks!Swipe up on the address bar. I didn’t like it either but it’ll become second nature after a while. I don’t mind now.
You can also use the pinch gesture anywhere on the screen while in safari to show all tabs. I have found this the easiest way.Holy smokes, this just made "compact" usable. I was using "bottom" just for the tab switcher. Thanks!
I certainly agree with the frequently used buttons now buried down in menus, I wish we were able to move virtually all buttons around. We all use our devices differently, so surely it makes sense to allow customisation.Lots not to like about the new changes for change’s sake Liquid Glass (gen bad UI design choices: frequently used buttons now buried down in menus to make place for less freq used things, cramped ((rounded corners everywhere, seriously?)), active things behind inactive layers, etc.), but I am:
- happy about the passwords app keeping a history of old passwords.
- intrigued by call screening feature (but may not use) and call waiting feature (will use).
- happy about having all credit card info in the wallet.
- looking forward to being able to put my passport in the wallet (hoping this will drive greater uptake of government entities supporting and accepting these over paper and plastic). (UPDATE: Not added in this beta, so we wait for either another beta, RC, backend activation after launch day, or a late launch).
Me too. So i can finally replace the SE1 I’m using.I’m mostly looking forward to an iPhone 5S remake.
Wow, this is great. Thanks. (I’m starting to appreciate functional changes, now if somebody could convince me that all these big radius rounded corners are necessary. You can also use the pinch gesture anywhere on the screen while in safari to show all tabs. I have found this the easiest way.
I didn’t know about the swiping up option!
As much as I liked my 5S, I wouldn’t be comfortable using it for anything but phone calls or SMS as the s/w is no longer updated. Plus faceid and Usbc on my primary phone is a great step up from touchid and lightning.Me too. So i can finally replace the SE1 I’m using.
You’d be surprised by how much it can still do. I do email, banking apps, uber, chess, and even safarl and forums like this one are ok for a short period to check on things. I only use it when away from home and have my iPad mini for home browsing. I just returned from 7 days away in North Carolina and I only used that for everything. Battery was not an issue with car charging. But it does take a while to load complex pages and you must accommodate for that. iOS 15.8 is still supported for security updates. So I’m still hoping for modern equally cute replacement. I gave my 15PM to my daughter over a year ago and have been with the SE1 since then.As much as I liked my 5S, I wouldn’t be comfortable using it for anything but phone calls or SMS as the s/w is no longer updated. You can change it back how it's in iOS 18, Settings>Apps>Safari>Tabs>Bottom (instead of compact)This alone is terrible, perhaps the thing that has grated me into swearing at my iPhone for the first time ever since 2010.
Update: Thanks to iBreatheApple in #18 above, this is done by swiping the address hotdog upwards. Thank you sir!
First line of the article. Also macOS Tahoe Beta 5 was released. Installing it now.
Hold hamburger buttons and slide to the button you want, you can even go two layers deep in the hierarchy without lifting your finger.Lots not to like about the new changes for change’s sake Liquid Glass (gen bad UI design choices: frequently used buttons now buried down in menus to make place for less freq used things, cramped ((rounded corners everywhere, seriously?)), active things behind inactive layers, etc.), but I am:

What does excessive battery wear mean? Not sure if I read this right, but wasn't there a comment(s) on the betas causing excessive battery wear on the iPhone batteries? Maybe something with heat? I wasn't sure if this was True or False.
Tap and slide.Agree. Phone updates, other s/w adds and improvements outweigh the clunky UI (I mean, really, did we need a search window to be on display, or a big empty hot dog robbing space above the keyboard, such that useful, likely more used buttons, are buried inside a menu, sometimes 2 levels down in the menu?).
I'm increasingly getting the feeling that Apple didn't really know what they could improve in iOS feature-wise (and there are many opportunities for that) so they just decided "let's make it look differently" ...
Read the first line of the article, and read the title again.tvOS PB also dropped
You can swipe up on the address bar to see all tabs, or swipe left or right on it to go to previous or next tabs.Just updated to the beta for the first time. The first thing I noticed was you can't easily change safari tabs.
You need to press the 3 dots then swap tabs. Please tell me there's a quicker way of swapping tabs.
Almost like my report was added to the article!Read the first line of the article, and read the title again.
