So where's the update for Logic? There were rumblings that one was ready to roll around when 10.10 shipped, but that hasn't happened yet and it has been months since the last update.

Anybody else having a problem updating ?

It won't show me the update but the purchases tab shows the update.

When I click on the update in purchases it does nothing.

Like everything else, they should just make FCPX free to everyone.

Uhhh... Like Avid and Premiere?

They have a free non linear editor in iMovie already, but if you need pro features like 5K native support (a $20,000-$30,000 investment) then it's a couple hundred bucks. Seems reasonable to me...

what do avid and premiere have to do with apple-owned software? i'm not arguing for it (cause i agree the price is fair), but apple could afford it whereas avid and adobe rely on their software for revenue much more. though, company-wide profits aside, we'd see probably see way less/the end of FCP updates a lot sooner.

When Apple makes software significantly cheaper/free, it's not rarely because they stopped believing in it.

OS X Server, Aperture, iWork to some extend come to mind.

:apple: IS still selling Aperture. It is not for free and not cheap. Not expensive either BUT as they will not continue the development and the support after 10.10 is most probably not there it seems not the right thing to do ....

Let's see how long they will continue on ProApps. 2 remaining Logic and FCPX. I guess the writing is on the wall.

aperture initially sold for $499. and it was utter crap for 1.0 version.

fcpx is frickin' amazing for the price.

Avid is a hardware company.
We have hundreds of thousands of dollars of their hardware at the broadcast facility where I work. The software was a tiny line item next to the servers, disk arrays etc.

BTW, FCP is a damn good deal for the price. cheaper than it was a few years ago, cheaper than most of the competition.

Apple has made pretty much all their software cheaper/free in the last years. That makes it difficult to argue for any causality regarding future interest. (But I think a good point can be made about them seeing software as a feature and not a product anymore.)

Cheaper indeed, lees usable as well. I am not trolling, I am only extremely frustrated with fcpx...

what are your personal gripes? i'm learning it, so i don't have earlier versions to compare to. i also know tons of editors who hated it when apple neutered it a few years ago, but are coming back around to it. i'm also playing with premiere a bit, would you recommend sticking with that instead?

Nice to see they've fixed the most embarrassing Xcode bug ever. Clicking the run button in the tool bar would make Xcode just close and dissappear without a trace (no crash or force quit error). Quite how that got past QC I'll never know.

When Aperture launched over five years ago it was about $500: Apple has dropped the price progressively, but this sees the price go from $200 to $79.

Well, many offerings of them are becoming increasingly dumbed down/quality decreases.

I forgot to mention OS X by the way, not quite what it used to be, mostly due to the annual major version upgrades.

Let me start with opacity control, the way it was implemented in fcp 7 is, in my opinion, much much better. Opacity key frames in fcp 7 were set directly on the clip and not in a pop up menu ensuring fast control over it in the case there are multiple video layers (or tracks if you will). The trackless system is painful when you have to deal with multiple tracks of video and audio you may end up with all of them, allover the place. I also feel there should be a way to disable the magnetic effect of the time line. When using a lot of elements you need space and the ability to move them about without worrying that those will also move what ever clip they have attached themselves to or that fcp has a different opinion on syncing. I could go on and on but enough for today. I need to repeat, that I am not trolling and I am not a hater. Just frustrated because FCP7 is a dying app and the transition to FCPX, probably will not be happening.

That's the problem with Apple: In case of doubt, the software knows better than you.

That concept is ripping many features and products in their lineup and I'm just waiting till it bites them so they may start delivering a proper balance again.
Right now it's all "easy first, functionality/customizability if it fits"
