Meanwhile I am having a bigger problem of my AirPods Pro 2 refusing to connect to my iPhone even after a full reset, bit connects to my Mac and iPad perfectly fine, two devices that for some reason CANNOT update AirPods firmware. Like, seriously? Is there some sort of prophecy in play that updating AirPods firmware on devices other than iPhone is a sin? A curse? A blasphemy?

Yeah, exactly because of this issue, I resorted to disable its auto switch function altogether. It didn’t work well at figuring out which device I was actively using anyways.

Yeah why resort to let customer wait unspecified amount of time for the “magic” to happen when a simple “try now” might make the whole situation better.
I had no problem pairing AirPods with iPhone (after AirPods reset). The bug always happened during switchover to macOS: AirPods just disappeared from macOS/iPhone Bluetooth settings without notifying AirPods that they're unpaired (that's why AirPods reset was necessary). I hope they fixed the bug now (I reported the problem through Feedback app). I like auto switch function (except Spotify where it doesn't work properly - thx Apple, i know you don't like Spotify 😡).

47.08 under USB
Case Version: 71.8.0 under Bluetooth
I still have firmware 7B19 with my AirPods Pro 2 and they show the same Case Version. Was the previous case version the same?

I am very curious about this because right about the time that 7B19 was released they stopped charging wirelessly. They still charged when plugged in. This has been going on for about 2 weeks. I have an appointment at the Apple Store tomorrow to get the case replaced. Yet today now they are suddenly charging again. So I'm wondering if somehow the case got updated and that resolved the issue?

The only other thing that was different is that I left my AirPods in my car overnight. I never do this but it did happen this time. Because of the weather, they were cold when I grabbed them. Did being cold for many hours somehow "reset" them? I had already done the standard troubleshooting for the AirPods by resetting and reconnecting them, etc.

I know one of the bug fixes was when answering a call with AirPods Pro 2nd get it was like the volume was being turned up and down really fast. That was just happening for people testing the developer beta but it’s fixed now in this update. I’m sure it was a simple audio routing order fix but it was annoying having to switch to my LG Tone headphones while trying to answer a call in time.

No. The case version did update but I don't recall what the old version was.
Something very odd just happened. My AirPods 2 Pro are now showing firmware 7B21 and the Case Version is now 70.92.0. Did they downgrade? WTF?

Apparently that’s the latest.

  • AirPods Pro 2 with MagSafe Charging Case (USB-C): 7B21

Yes, 7B21 is the latest overall firmware, but the specific "Case Version" used to be 71.8.0 under 7B19 and now it is 70.92.0, seemingly a downgrade in numbers.

I don’t think that’s quite right—my AirPods Pro 2 (lightning) updated to 7B21 yesterday and then today the case updated from 70.92.0 to 71.8.0.

seems like the hearing aid function is a serious bit better. Less high pitched tones, better and more natural sounding.

And now they're back to 71.8.0. Seems like the updating of the AirPods and the case isn't always synchronous. Yet it's really strange that they were 71.8.0, then back to 70.92.0 and now once again back to 71.8.0.

Oh well, they're updated now and my wireless charging function is restored. Whether the wireless charging function was at all impacted by any of these updates is unknown.

No and behold mine updated while plugged into Mac. 7b21 and 71.8.0 for case.

The last update was glitchy in every possible way, hoping this one corrects that one!

I’d like to have the option to NOT update them though!

For me, they (my wife's and mine) did not update overnight. In both instances, they updated shortly after I opened the case, put one airpod in my ear, returned it to its case, closed the case and put both the case and the iPhone on to charge.
Thank you, I'm squirreling that away for next time. I tried the usual ritual (complete with the dipping of the hands in butterscotch pudding, as is custom), with no luck, and then when I checked a day later they had updated. Still want a "try now, even if it doesn't work" button (in addition to the current auto-update code).

99% of the users do not even know, there are updates. They just happen miraculously - kind of a perfect mechanism.

Ever done an update of Sony Ear-/Headphones? Be happy to be with Apple. Sony is a tedious process in their strange app. If you don't have the app = no updates at all.
i have 7 times wasnt hard at all simply reading instructions. it even downloads to the phone first before installation so not sure what you're dealing wit

I have those too. As a workaround I‘ve read that going into the Apple TV settings, accessibility, Airpods and then something like „center on Apple TV“ with 3D sound off, slightly helped a bit
I have to correct this unfortunately. I did the firmware update but still experience the same stuff. It‘s either my Apple TV or some specific TV apps..
They work fine until I skip something, or use them on my iPhone..

I updated my 4s with ANC in less than 5 minutes with a USB-C cable between my phone and the 4s charging case. It happened quickly. Most of the “hiss” was already gone with the last update, not sure what this update will do. These are the best AirPods I have even owned and shocked at well the ANC works considering they do not seal the ear canal!

Happy in Jacksonville!

Sad to report that in spite of the latest firmware updates, my AirPods Pro 2 still make that funny strange electronic sound when I put the pods back into the charging case.

I've been having problems with Automatic Ear Detection causing choppy audio. Hopefully this fixes that.
I've had an occasional issue with choppy staticky audio in my AirPods 4 ANC. I don't know if auto ear detection causes it or not. It had been on firmware 7B19. I don';t yet know if 7B20 fixes that or not, since it was rather sporadic.
