I've not found anything I use broken yet, but I guess your mileage may vary. It seems like a very minor update which doesn't really change a great deal except for subtle things, which is fine.

One thing which I have found which is actually useful is the existence of a /etc/pam.d/sudo_local.template file which when copied to /etc/pam.d/sudo_local and pam_tid.so uncommented should resolve the issue where modifications to /etc/pam.d/sudo are reset after every update, which means Touch ID for sudo should persist over updates now.

As a note of caution -

I updated my M1 Mac mini - 1440p monitor (USB-C), ethernet connection - no workie.

I've gotten the monitor to show the screen occasionally. Rebooted this morning, can't make it display at all. Will try a straight-up HDMI connection later. Ethernet is also "out." It works for about 30 seconds, maybe a minute, when it starts (and when I can magically see the screen) then cuts out. Can't even ping the machines local IP... (loopback does work fine tho.)

Can't seem to make it start Safe mode or boot to recovery. Will try w/ a USB keyboard later.

It seems like everyone else is having smooth sailing, so hopefully this won't be your experience, but it IS mine.

On a positive note, Apple seems to have mostly stopped trying to clean up your Window positions on iPad Stage manager. MOSTLY. It's much more usable than it was.

Anyone managed to bypass "your apple ID is currently not enrolled in the selected beta programme"?
iOS still works even if you don't pay the fee!

My buddy somehow did this. He has iOS 17 on his phone even though he's not a developer. It literally just let him download it in settings.

I'm sure I'll get a lot of hate for saying this, but other than Dark mode, there is not ONE feature added to macOS that I use that's been added since 10.5/6. I honestly cannot think of a single one.

For me the ability to use my iPad as a second monitor is huge, it makes remote coding work a million times better since I can carry a computer and iPad with me to have two screens.

Other than that though macOS has been pretty full featured for years, it's going to be hard for them to think of anything pressing to add.

I know its a little change, but I like that the password field and user icon is now at the bottom of the screen. So far no issues on my personal M1 13-inch MacBook Pro. I'll be updating some of my work machines that I keep in the beta and after validating software run through an MDM deployment. I love this time of year to see what works and what doesnt.
Have you seen any drop in performance on 13 m1 pro?

No performance issues. With my usual work flow and apps open, I've been steady using ~10GB of 16Gb of RAM, and memory pressure has remained green. The only issue I've had was Coderunner crashed after waking the machine from Sleep. I'll try and reproduce that later to see if it happens again.

It's a Developer beta, so definitely don't install it on your machines unless you are a developer intending to test on that specific software. It's not for production use.

Wait for the Public Beta at a minimum. That will have many wrinkles ironed out.
A year from now it won't have mattered if you tried the beta now unless you're a developer. And if you're a developer you probably need to move to Silicon.

Sonoma is running as first beta ok on Mac Studio. There is one problem, Ventura started as well with:
It does not allow the system to sleep. Even manually activated sleep returns the system back to active after some number of seconds.

On startup on Sonoma on my M1 iMac, a message that System Events is being added to login items pops up and repeats every 10 seconds. I’ve tried several suggested fixes, but so far nothing has worked. I know that I’m not unique in having this problem because I’ve heard from others about the same issue, but evidently it’s not widespread. I’ve sent in feedback to Apple but have not received a reply. Does anyone have any idea of a solution other than to wait for the next beta? The messages that I’ve been receiving don’t point to a specific application as the culprit, so I can’t pinpoint it and uninstall it, though I’m pretty sure that it’s one of my many third-party apps.

Sorry, I should have said that the message referred to an item to run in the background.

The only thing which I like about Sonoma is Valley Screensaver, but I will leave out it this macOS and wait for successor.

Still having an issue where I can't set an O365 event to "out of office" in Calendar on my Mac. Free, Busy, and Tentative are my only choices. Fine on iPhone. Started a few versions ago. Anyone else?

[MacBook Pro 14 M1 Pro] Yesterday morning, I performed a large iCloud Photos import consisting of 60,000 images. Since then, my Sonoma system has been struggling significantly with updating and uploading to the iCloud Library. Most system animations are experiencing choppiness, although the log-in animation seems to be the exception, allowing you to count frames. The most problematic issue is the high instability of Mission Control, which hard crashes (crashes of demonic proportions killing Dock, Backgrounds and any Systemtool with it) every few hours, which takes the mac few minutes to recover from. Additionally, the synchronization process of the Photos app is making little progress. It has a background process that occasionally spikes CPU usage but fails to accomplish much. (1.5Gbit up /down) Therefore, if you are planning to upload a large number of photos and rely on a functioning system, I recommend considering the situation carefully before proceeding. 😄 - Anyone else experiencing funny / worse behavior?

Thanks and kind regards..

Very long wait for iCloud tabs from my iPhone to appear on my Sonoma Safari Home Screen. Still figuring out if it's related to my opening and closing Safari on my phone.

... without having done anything particular (like reinstall or whatever..), the 'predictive move' Button simply reappeared again and it is working as expected 👍.
Maybe the upgrade to Sonoma triggered some database rebuild, which needed to be finished, in order to have this button/function showing up.

I was going to post the same.

Since 2014 or so, I have only updated when the version I was running reached EOL. Still sitting on Monterey right now because that's what was there when I bought this thing.

I would be happier on Mojave. Or Snow Leopard.

In fact, I find myself increasingly avoiding native features and apps where possible.

In b4 "So why do you buy MacBooks?" .....

I do like the hardware, and the fact that it's the best compromise I can find between a UNIX development machine and a normal desktop for collaborating with Windows users at work, etc.

I complete fresh install of Sonoma on Mac Studio fixed the sleep issue.
One bug did not change. The mail app crashes during system sleep.
