Actually, they have taken ALL the OpenGL code out of the ENTIRE OS, and reworked it to use Metal 2. So, it isn't just games. They feel that Metal 2 is far-enough advanced that converting the entire OS to it will make the overall performance for ALL graphic operations significantly faster.

Sorry, unless/until the hackintosh community figures a way around this, you are "stuck" with High Sierra...

It's not the CPU, it's the GPU.

Did not see that one comming

I'm glad to see my MBP nr 2012 model is still supported. But I'll pass. I'm happy with El Capitan.

Fair enough. But that says more about MacRumors and the temptation of journalists working to a deadline to reduce complex pictures to a catchy hook than it says about Apple.

If you had watched the WWDC keynote address, as I did, you would know that Mojave offers many more new features than Dark Mode.
Yeah I would probably be more informed if I did. I didn't catch it this year as i no longer have the interest in Apple as i once did.

Apple is keeping your data safer than ever with new security and privacy improvements, and Safari in macOS Mojave makes it much easier to track you through share/like buttons and via your system configuration.

I surely hope its not making it easier to track me.

what features would you like or need?
i honestly feel like operating systems are very mature and not much else is needed
nVidia GPU support comes to mind.

I’d like a network topology tool like Airport Utility that isn’t limited to Apple routers (especially now that Apple has discontinued them).

I've never been one to have a wish list per se, but I know when features are added that can benefit me. Looking further at the feature list, I'm not seeing much that would impact my workflows.

I doubt you'll ever see a unified tool that supports multiple router manufacturers. None of them operate the same way, even within a single manufacturer's line.

Can you somehow force install it on an unsupported Mac? I have a 2008 MBP but it's an i7 with 16GB RAM. I find it hard to believe it won't run an OS update as minor as this.

wow with all the noise and troll conversations, it's hard to find and get answers in this thread...
Anyone one know how this handles fusion drives and apfs? Is there still a bug booting from an external ssd?

Strange. I installed it on my MacBook Air last night (not my primary machine) and after the install it asked if I wanted to use light or dark mode. Obviously I wanted to try dark mode, but neither the mouse or keyboard were working, so I couldn't choose either. I left it for a few minutes and tried an external wired mouse, but nothing worked. Once I rebooted it logged me straight in with the dark interface. Now everything seems to be fine.

Re: Dark interface, I wish that they had changed the window color (top bar) for 3rd party apps that don't use a custom bar. Doesn't it make sense that if you developed your app with standard UI elements that the OS should make those match the default style...

Did they fix the finder finally having cmd+x and cmd+v to move files from one location to another? How can you not follow a common command like that in something so critical like The Finder?

You're confusing macOS with Windows. macOS doesn't have 'cut' in Finder, they have a system where you do CMD+C, and then decide if you want to copy or move. I prefer it to Windows, tbh.

It would seem APFS is default and the HFS+ High Sierra partition is automatically converted during the upgrade.

Other than that no issues on my late 2015 21.5" 4k iMac.

And yes I took the plunge.

You're deliberately mis-stating things. Nobody is complaining about dark mode, some people are happy it's coming, some people don't care one way or the other.

People are complaining that Apple is so incapable of creating anything these days that a new color scheme counts as a flagship feature. Even if you've been asking for dark mode for years, that's still pretty pathetic of Apple.

Microsoft made one (ONE!) new feature for the latest major release of Windows 10 - the Timeline. Mojave brings several very nice improvements and a major architectural change with UIKit. Saying that "a new color scheme" is the only feature is just being negative and whiny.

And even that 'color scheme' is done with great attention to detail and very thought out.

As @BasicGreatGuy said - people are complaining just for the sake of complaining. Mojave is shaping out to be one of the better desktop OS releases - from any company - in years.

High Sierra had noticeably better performance for me than El Capitan, and with the latest version it seems quite bug-free to me. Just saying.

Oh, no, actually Darwin is free and open source. Go, take it, and rebuild the Mac OS the way you want it to suit your desires.

You are using a closed source OS. Of course that Apple is gonna dictate how it is gonna look and behave. Same the Microsoft does with Windows.

If you want to be free, pick some Linux distro and go with it.
Mac OS is built upon open source. I am free to install whatever software I want on it.

Apple opens up when it suits them and locks it up when it suits them. The customer always comes second to profit.
I just wish for all the Apple gear that I have that it was more open and played better with other product from other companies.

I'm one of those ones that doesn't wear rose tinted glasses.

Microsoft is more open than Apple, and I never thought I'd hear the day when I uttered those words.

Converting to APFS/having it as default originated in High Sierra, if you had an SSD. APFS is only new in Mojave if you have a Fusion drive.

High Sierra was on HFS+ partition and during upgrade was converted to APFS on a Seagate Hybrid Drive. All went successfully and the upgrade was completed in around 30 minutes.

Just a word of warning.....I installed the Mojave Public Beta last night and it goofed up my mac quite badly...luckily I have a Time Machine backup but it will not allow me to restore to that backup and every time I enter Time Machine from the icon on the status bar, it has the restore button greyed out which will not allow me to restore to that backup. Also when I cancel out of it, finder windows begin to appear and cannot even be forced closed. iCloud Drive is a mistake as well, I unintentionally, or rather absent mindedly, clicked yes on it during the set up process which made my entire computer begin to upload to iCloud Drive...and when I say entire computer I mean like everything, My desktop, documents and everything else. When I canceled the upload, it deleted everything off of my desktop. So a word to the wise, always wait for later releases for this very reason....Now I have to either wait for another update to correct the issue, which honestly is not an option, or I have to downgrade to High Sierra which is going to take forever......

Does anyone know what will happen in Mail-app in Dark Mode if you have a black logo file in .png as signature. Will the mail-app automatically invert it to white or will it stay black and then actually disappear, cause you cant see it?

It's sad the main new feature of an operating system is dark mode.
As other commenters on this forum have pointed out, users, have been asking for an operating system wide Dark Mode ever since Apple introduced the dark menu and Dock options in OS X Yosemite. Also, the iPhone X may be driving some of this, as certain apps on iOS also have a dark mode and a "black" mode, where by the user isn't seeing a grey value at all, and the pixels on the OLED are simply off to get the deepest possible blacks that an OLED screen is famous for providing. I have read many commenters on this forum who want Apple to implement Dark Mode system wide in iOS as well.

If you are ignoring the other new features in Mojave and singling out Dark Mode to continue the "Apple Sucks" narrative, you're really missing the boat.

- Stacks - I have a couple of co-workers whose Desktops are littered with icons for documents, pictures, et al. Stacks, which are WAY overdue, should help them stay a bit better organized, myself included.

- Gallery View - I have always had a love/hate relationship with the Cover Flow view, I can't be the only one. It is the least used Finder view more myself. I would love to know whether or not others here feel the same way. Gallery View looks 200% more useful for dealing with a variety of files, but time will tell.

- Complete Metadata - This beats Show Preview in the Finder any day of the week and lots more information than a Get Info window and remembering to close the window after invoking it.

- Quick Actions - I don't have an opinion as I am not sure if those things can already be accomplished with a little ingenuity.

- Quick Look - Love it! Many times I have wished I could do something quick and easy in a file I just QL'ed without opening Preview.

- Screenshots - Love it! Countless times I have wanted to make a quick movie of software issue that I have replicated to send to the developer, because screenshots just don't cut it. QuickTime Player is useful, but a lot of the time, it just seems overly cumbersome and complicated to record at the spur of the moment.

- Continuity Camera - I often take pictures on my iPhone that I want to move right over to the Mac and AirDrop is just, well, AirDrop. Which is to say, sometimes brilliant, sometimes a complete POS. I hope Apple fixes AirDrop, but for me, this will decrease quite a bit of friction for many in getting a photo over to their Mac.

- FaceTime - I don't use it much anymore, but it's nice to see they haven't forgotten it.

- News, Stocks, Home and Voice Memos - Welcome aboard! I am excited to see what Apple has in store for users and developers when it comes to moving iOS apps over to the Mac, which I think is Apple prepping us for a move to ARM and/or reaffirming a commitment to the Mac. The Mac App Store is pretty moribund, users want app parity between iOS and macOS, creating a more seamless, lower friction experience. Fingers crossed.

- Under the hood changes in Mojave - Some were discussed, but I have yet to find a comprehensive list. My main concern has been those underlying parts of macOS that have been ignored for far too long. Each successive release from 10.7 to 10.13 has seemed less stable than the one before. HFS+ is creaky and needs a replacement, but the way in which Apple has rolled out APFS on macOS does not inspire me with confidence at all. I only have it running on one MacBook Pro at this time and I really have not been impressed with the speed.

My question for you would be - What improvements to macOS would you like to see Apple make in the future? Are they outward facing features, or under the hood improvements. Is there something in macOS that just doesn't work, or could use enhancements to improve your productivity.
