It seems Jan-April = Early, May-Aug = Mid, Sep-Dec = Late (4 month increments makes sense)
Yeah, bought mine in June. Picked it up late June and was a custom config. Doesn't make sense it's an Early 2015 though.

WRONG
The 13inch Force Touch is EARLY 2015 - it does not need this update.
That's weird that their site saysI think "Mid 2015" *doesn't* include the 13" force touch; that calls itself "Early 2013" and, indeed, there's no update apparently available.
I think I'm on the same page, I bought my 13" force touch in June and the update hasn't come up for me in software update.. Probably just the more recent modelsOkay, I downloaded this update from the website just to check if I'm eligible and I'm not, it's strange.
No degradation of performance for me after running the update.
Is it your first Macbook ever?Yeah, bought mine in June. Picked it up late June and was a custom config. Doesn't make sense it's an Early 2015 though.
I have an early 2015 13" rMBP. Apparently not affected.
BTW, this story is showing on my iPhone, but not on my rMBP. Weird.
Restart and make sure you're connected to the Internet, it checks the serial with the Internet connection to display the yearThat is weird. Mine says MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015)
Lol it is slow with YosemiteIn fact, Safari seems a little snappier!
It's also limited to certain date codes of flash storage, with certain revisions of firmware and the flash storage must have a valid serial number. This Update NOT All rMBP Mid 2015 15" Model, Only BoardID Mac-06F11F11946D27C5 and Mac-06F11FD93F0323C5.

Why would we need to check? If our laptop requires the update, it'll appear in software update...This Update NOT All rMBP Mid 2015 15" Model, Only BoardID Mac-06F11F11946D27C5 and Mac-06F11FD93F0323C5.

After the update the revision version changed of the SSD drive from BXW1PA0Q to BXW1SA0Q.
I purchased my Mid 2015 MacBookPro about a month ago. And I think I did face the problem. Can either of you elaborate on this? What symptoms occurred? How did you know to reformat?
Is it your first Macbook ever?
Even though yours was built in June, it's still an early 2015 model because that's when your model was released.
My 15" rMBP was built in March 7, 2015 but it's still a mid 2014 model.
Do you understand it better now?
I have revision number BXW1PA0Q and still I don't have this update. After the update the revision version changed of the SSD drive from BXW1PA0Q to BXW1SA0Q.

This is veeeery weird.
It doesn't work when I download it, but it obviously is for my rMBP. That's why I have no clue what is going onJust download it from the link and see if it'll run. If it's not for your Mac then it won't.
