I had that in the past but don’t remember now how I fixed that
I think I'll just leave them be overnight and hopefully the issue will have resolved itself by the morning. 😔

UPDATE: They finally went from "being configured" to "update availalble." It only took seven hours!

Does it fix Whats Playing on homepods from showing up on my phone and my watch because I am seriously sick of that. I have homepods playing all the time, I don't even see my watch face anymore because everytime I raise my wrist I see the stupid cover art for whatever song whatever homepod in my house is playing. HATE HATE HATE this. And dont say "disable handoff" cause that doesnt fix a damn thing.

You don’t have to turn off hand off for this to be turned off, go into your Watch app > General > Auto-Launch and turn it off.

OG HomePod Stereo Pair not updating - briefly shows “Downloading” but then stops

Currently on 17.1.1

HomePod minis updated fine
Hi,

I had the issue yesterday and in the past. I simply fixed this by unpairing the stereo pair, restarting the HomePods and then I managed to update one.

The other one I had to restore it to factory settings. It reinstalled OS 17.1.1, but after it automatically downloaded OS 17.2. Once both HomePods were updated, I paired them again in stereo.

I hope this will help you.

Take care!

I’ve never experienced an Apple product that’s so consistently riddled with bugs.
Wow. I've had one for two or three years, and recently got a second. I have so few problems, controlling lights, having Automations to wake me with radio at different times on different days, and some Automations for bedtime, sunset, etc. No bugs. Even paired with a reportedly tricky Belkin Soundform Connect for my old fashioned audio system, and since the HomePod architecture upgrade, it's been great too.

they all updated fine yesterday, took forever for the OGs but no issues.

maybe audio a little lower overall?

All four of my OG Homepods updated successfully (16.4 -> 17.2). I do believe the audio profile is different, but I haven't listen to them enough to say how so. The couple of songs I tested were fine. I have noticed a longer delay when selecting the speakers as output in Monterey.

Don’t get me wrong; I do like them. The sound quality is great and all four of mine are refurbished/eBay purchases which makes me resent the issues I have a little less as they were all bought for very low prices. But I find consistent and persistent problems such as:
• Stereo pair hooked to my Apple TV - One HomePod becomes unresponsive to volume up and down on the remote so you need to press the panel on top to get both speakers at similar levels.
• “Siri, pause the music”
“There’s nothing playing…”
“There’s literally music playing right now”
• “Siri, play this song everywhere”
“I couldn’t find the other devices in the Home app”
So I manually select the other HomePods one at a time in the AirPlay menu.
• Bedroom HomePod is biblically loud first thing in the morning when it wakes us with live radio - pretty much on full volume for no reason!

Unfortunately I could go on. I really do like them, and when they work the rest of the time they’re quite brilliant and convenient, but it’s become a running joke in my household and amongst friends that they’re not good enough for the money Apple wants.

Updated 1 of 2 (not paired), went fine. CHONKY sized indeed. Total time from request to manually update was about 15 minutes. Received an audible notification from phone when it was completed, don’t remember this ever happening before. Full image?

Same issue here with my OG HomePod's.
Honestly don’t bother about the update

1 OG HomePod magically updated in the meantime - trying to get the other to update cost me a couple of hours and now everything is broken

I (stereo) unpaired them - reset the 1 with 17.1.1 - unplugged it etc. - it is stuck on „configuring“ now - so can’t use them now - will surely stop bothering about HomePod updates

I had big hopes for the update because ever since the upgrade from 16 to 17 - the eARC with LG OLED broke - when changing channels there is very loud white noise that you can only get rid of by changing channels multiple times until it fixes itself … and then it magically comes back again once you change channel again

Apple, please, are you listening (😂😂😂😂😂) How about a dedicate HomePod App. You know one that has all of the controls in one place, and you update through it. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

99% of similar issues I've had are down to a weak Wi-Fi signal or a poor router. Hompod Minis either have a weak Wi-Fi antenna and/or are super sensitive to signal strength/quality.

Previously, I had a combined cable modem/router. Put that into modem-only mode, added a stand-alone router, and added extenders to weak signal spots. Since the changes, I've not had any issues.

Mine were stuck in "being configured" for about 7 hours. My advice is to leave them be overnight, and hope they are back to normal in the morning.

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately it still shows configuring …

Thank you for this. I hadn’t considered changing my router - I’ve had the same one for over 5 years so may be due an upgrade.

I’ll be sure to recant my opinions on the HomePod if that solves it!

I have my 2 HomePods next gen setup as a stereo pair. Eveytime I update them one will not stay connected to the router (either one might have the issue) Rebooting the router doesn't fix it and the only fix is to reboot both HomePods. This will usually fix things. So Im not sure if this is a software bug or a router issue.

The phone showing what's playing you can't remove, but you can tap the cover to make it collapse down into the mini player on the lock screen vs. taking up the whole thing.

Your watch on the other hand, that functionality is called Auto Launch. It gives you controls over media playing through your paired iPhone, which is what is playing on your HomePod. If you don't want that to show up, on your watch go to Settings > Auto Launch, then toggle off the function.

OG HomePod downloading it... updating it... taking its time 😅

It's been glitchy for ages... as usual, fingers crossed that this is the release that fixes it! Especially now I have a brand new high end router, there's no excuses for it misbehaving.
Is it just me or is this the most stable HomePod has been since launch? It's not doing any glitching or skipping!

Got everything fixed with 2 OG HomePods … however AppleTV 4K latest gen is now connected via WiFi instead of Ethernet

At least until today weird white noises on eARC seems to be fixed now after breaking with 17.0 update (didn’t retest this until 17.2 update)
