It's a known issue. Previously 2 of my homepods developed this problem. Brought them back to Apple (they were out of warranty). Suggested fix was super expensive. I told them to keep their crap then. It's a issue with the touch panel. They register ghost touches. We have a HomePod OG and a 2nd gen HomePod. Does anyone else have semi-regular issues with their HomePod 2 playing music spontaneously? Our 2nd gen developed this bad habit recently of spontaneously playing music, sometimes in the middle of the night and often quite loudly. My wife doesn't appreciate Kneecap blaring in the darkness! We are unable to stop the music through the Home app or by yelling at Siri and typically must resort to unplugging it (and returning to bed). I reset it over the weekend but don't yet know if that has remedied the issue, and I'm updating to PodOS 26.5 now. Any thoughts would be appreciated -- thanks! Dave
Recently another one of my HomePods 2 linked to my Apple TV in a stereo set up started to have the same problems. We
came home after a dinner the other Day, around 10 pm and the speakers were on and blasting on 100% volume.
The "semi-fix" so far has been to activate and modify the touch assist settings (3 seconds and avoid repeating touches, deactivate Siri, etc). If you Google it you will find the exact settings.
The touch area on the HomePods are of terrible quality. That seems to be the root problem. In fact, on Aliexpress or Taobao you can order replacement ones. But that will require a bit of a surgery. Or deactivate the touch area completly (cutting weires) and control the HomePods via phone only.
