Anyone know what's the app being used in the "to a CEO" part?

It's called, "Calculate My Year End Bonus". (App Store - 99 cents)

And I'll buy one when it comes with...

I'll buy one when it does something useful - like run an unhindered version of OSX or it can recognize handwriting.

You're getting negative votes on your post just because people here know that Apple will never do that, but I think I have to agree with you. I mean I own the iPad 1 now and love it, but I'd love it even more if I could write on it with a pen.

And you're getting negative votes because you agree with somebody who is getting negative votes. :D The iDrones here are all of the same mind. They walk around with that glazed look in their eyes and just blink at you when somebody who has a need suggests it be incorporated into the function of the iPad. I've learned that most Apple lemmings here are predictable and boring.

The iPad needs handwriting tech. It's a logical and natural desire/wish. Why would anyone NOT want that? Especially if Apple insists on showing that stupid baby ultrasound over… and over… I don't know any medical staff that actually uses one on the job. You simply can't input information on the thing while on the go and holding it in your other hand. (I actually don't know anyone that uses the iPad except from a comfy chair or couch).

Apple is still waiting for the market to figure out where this thing belongs. So far it looks like it's ideal for toddlers, facebookers and tweeters. Wake me when it can actually do something to save me time so I can pass that along to my family, friends and other more important things.

Apps featured in this commercial?

Does anybody know what apps are featured in this commercial? I was able to identify a few of them, but not all, and are not yet listed in the AppStore.

Quick! Alert the medical community that they should stop using their iPads since your anecdotal evidence proves they aren't actually using one. :)

OK, seriously, I think handwriting on the iPad would be a natural extension. No reason why that can't be done even by a third-party vendor using the port to hook into the iPad.

The iPad is now my preferred device and has been so for over a year. I don't understand people who can't see the point of it. I can't live without it now. If I had to choose only one device to live with, I would give up my laptop before I would give up my iPad.

If I could only find a personal use beyond web browsing.

I know what you could do. You could play videos with it, such as mkv's, either streamed or synced with your device.

Since I am the local technology guru...

I can afford one but the lack of MKV playback is the deal killer. So that makes it $499 to browse the internet.

Capital idea! There's more than one piece of software that will do this for you. You know, not even my computer(s) can play mkv's out of the box. I had to install software to play mkv's. Just like with the ipad.

None of the above.

The commercials are cringe worthy when the potential you have is limited to web browsing.

No, really, you can play mkv's. It's no longer a deal killer. You can now happily buy one. There's so many other things, other than playing mkv's, that you can do with it. It's a terribly long list so I won't bore you with that here.

What would I playback? I do not waste the drive space on it either. I grew out of my media hoarding phase nearly a decade ago.

I have not paid for any of my media since I just get it on DVD from the library. Why would I pay for shovel media?

I thought you wanted to play mkv's? Oh well, I guess you could still convert them from your library videos. Your myth has been debunked. Go buy one.

In iTunes you can see a banner ad that says "Apps from iPad TV ads." That will take you to a page where you will see the apps.

for drawing during class, maybe. there is a lot of stuff in chemistry or physics where you need to make a quick drawing. but for writing? i am typing way faster than i am writing with a pen. and in the end its way more readable. :D
This is how my typical lectures look like and I don't really see how do you even try to approach typing something like this on a keyboard in real time:

etc
Actually, having stylus isn't really that important for taking lecture notes as usually they are available as pdfs anyway, but I don't see how you can do without a pen when solving math/physics problems.

if you really need a stylus there are already lots of options you can buy and use em with your ipad.
ALL of them have tips of enormous diameter. I've tried some of them, and you really can't write in small handwriting, your letters have to be big and in many cases you can't even fit some equations in one line. Those styluses are not a good solution.

A child's imagination is the magic thing, not the 500 dollar computer that dulls the child's truly magic thoughts. I wish Apple would stick to humorous ads. These pieces done with "moving" bits of piano music make me a bit sick.

You clearly don't know much about the medical world. Here's one link just to get things going:

Oh, and here's the story about a hospital that just ordered 1800 iPads...

Would have been awesome to take my Cell Biology final on an iPad if they were around when I was in college :p

The first link seems to be saying 4% of doctors read their email on an ipad. Do you think that really matches up with what the advertisement says, is that ground breaking?

I really like the tone of these commercials.

Also, I enjoy that they keep saying magic or magical; only because I know how angry people (trolls, mostly) here get about it.

its almost at the taunt stage now.

i love it.

reminds me of the think different campaign - feeling-wise.

The "Only way" ?

What, you could not use a laptop?

And how would an iPad only owner read the CD in the 1st place?

Yes the iPad made a nice easy to use picture viewer once you had put the images on it from your real computer at home is what you are saying.

You could just of easy taken a laptop which read the CD images off directly onto the screen and no needed this new device whatsoever.

Who owns a laptop? Not I. Should I pull one out of thin air to appeal to your invalid response?

How would an iPad only owner USE an ipad without activation? Your argument is completely without merit. They make these things called iMacs, try one! They are fantastic for the home, but a little hefty for trip to the doc.

I could have driven a Daewoo, but I took a BMW. *WINK*

That's the joke.

On a more serious note, not really. I was trying to think of something other than web browsing. I have a HTPC that I cobbled together that takes care of that.

It's basically the ultimate "access" machine. Just yesterday I used my phone as a dictionary, store, terminal to enterprise software, link to external contact database. (also made some phone calls) iPad would be similar. Lookup, lookup, lookup. Web browsing is covered under that, too.

One thing the iPad brings that any phone cannot is a level of professionalism. In the companies I deal with, using your phone during a meeting looks questionable, like you're fooling around. Using a tablet or laptop to do the exact same lookup of whatever would be ok. It's a little silly, but that's the vibe I get currently.

This is not to say everyone has use for it. I'm happy with the phone, I'm not in that many meetings.

What, you don't carry a projector in your back pocket? :D Even with the retina display I feel like my i4 is just too small to really "show anyone" anything on. It's almost like a toy coming out of the pocket when you are in a serious situation. The iPad produces a more serious tone to it. Still, if at all possible I use my iPhone much more because it doesn't take both hands to manage it. There will always be the size advantage/disadvantage between the two.

A great commercial. As a teacher who is getting 30 ipads for next years students I am super pumped. These truly are the future of education and I can't wait to have my students start using them.

Wow!!!

I've heard stories but DAYUM!!!

Do you teach at a public, charter or private school. And what grade?

iPads will be as great and as useful as this commercial makes them seem, when they get more features and usablity to being it closer to a desktop OS(no apple fanboys, I do not want it to BE a desktop OS)

Are you talking about this link?
http://www.healthcareitnews.com/news/physician-mobile-use-grows-45-percent

If so, I'm not sure how you came up with your statement. It's not even a misreading / misunderstanding. Your statement is just plain wrong.

Maybe so, I don't have as much patience for reading as I once did. My scan says Bulletin Healthcare send out daily briefings via email. About 30% of people access from a mobile platform (phone or tablet I presume). Mobile share is split 79% iPhone, 14% iPad , 6% Android. The movement from iphone to ipad is interesting considering other reports say only 25% of ipad owners have an iphone but nothing here sounds revolutionary or magical.

I've considered it, just to be a show off. Kinda like Eidorian's post above, I'm known as the guy with gadgets and knowledge by friends/family. Whipping out a 40" screen from my pocket wouldn't hurt. ;)
