My 27" i7 2011 iMac has been freezing up constantly! Hopefully this will fix the issue. :(

Update: Tried to run it and got: "This software is not supported on your system." What the...??? :( :( :(

As noted, the installer distribution seems to imply that this update is only for the 21.5" iMac (Mid 2011).

I still can't find which card the ROM "113-C2950K-193" belongs to (anybody care to check the ROM version on a 21.5" ?) but it should be either:

AMD Radeon HD 6750M
or
AMD Radeon HD 6770M

but again, only on the 21.5" Mid 2011 iMac

Go figure.

iMac 11,3 2.93 w/ 5750: nothing in software update. No crashes to speak of in 4-5 months.

Now let's hope they get the MBP firmware update out the door soon as well. Would like to go back to using dynamic switching to save battery power. I have advertising classes from 8:00-3:45.

Yup. Update showed up for my Mid 2011 21" iMac. Interestingly, my iMac never froze even once since last 2 months.

Edit: Sorry wrong call. That update is Some remote login utility which was released few days ago and not the graphics firmware.

My Hardware is HD6750. So no update here. Which iMac's are getting the update exactly?

Mid 2011 iMac 27" i7 AMD Radeon HD 6970M video.

No Freezing (to date).

Same machine here, but I *do* see a problem, freezing during sleep. I can't tell at all if it is asleep sometimes, or asleep and hung, or actually off. It takes 2 to 3 attempts of holding down the power button, and I'm never sure if it's forcing power off or turning on, at the first attempt. At the very least, it's not responding to *any* keypresses from the (wired) keyboard.

Purchased it only recently, with 10.7.0 preinstalled.

CK.

Mid 2011 iMac 21.5" with 6770M ROM version 113-C0170C-170.

Update not supported on my system.

(however no problem with Lion on my side, no freeze to report)

As a game analyst/program tester, I have reported this "freezing up" issue
to apple-representive along with so few other new macbook pro-to-iMac users that have recently update to lion.

Very Simple...to prevent from "freezing up", do not put it into "sleep mode".

My new 2011 Lion 27" iMac has frozen solid about 4 or 5 times in the last few weeks since i bought it, when i open a video like youtube or something, it just locks up, and responds to nothing. The only fix is to pull power plug and plug it back in, and then it restarts. Despite my username, (which i made before buying) i have the 3.1ghz i5 and HD6970M, 12gb memory.

UPDATE: "this is not supported on your system" It seems this is only for the 21.5", that makes no sense, why would the 21 be any more susceptible than the 27"? My 27" has this issue.

Mid 2011 iMac AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048 MB. No updates for me.

Yup, looks like this particular firmware is only for the 21.5" iMac (Mid 2011) with an AMD Radeon HD 6750M.

EDIT: From the firmware included in the installer:

"Apple K60E Whistler PRO C29507/08/09 GDDR5 32Mx32 100e/149m 0.9V"
"(C) 1988-2010, AMD Technologies Inc. ATOMBIOSBK-ATI VER013.012.000.027.041411C2950700.101679201 198628 AMD_C29507_GD5_Whistler_PRO_MXM"

EDIT 2: and also in the firmware is this string:
"ATY,HydrillaAMD Radeon HD 6750M113-C2950J-571109-C29507-0001.00.571¨02465113-C2950K-212"

So after the update, ROM version should be "113-C2950K-212"

Hopefully, if the causes of the freezes are similar, updates for other video chipsets will be forthcoming.

Even so, video freezing could be a driver issue, which would make more sense for those ONLY having the issue after upgrading to Lion.

Guys just a tip...apparently you can cure it on your 2010mbp's and presumably other systems as well by doing the following

Navigate to ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/, delete any files that contain "windowserver," and reboot the machine. The procedure may need to be repeated if you regularly connect to an external monitor once it is also connected.

Also it should be noted that Lion hides the library by default, so just go to your home folder and hit cmd shift g and type library to get there.
