Anyone think it includes any bug fixes or improvements too? Or is it just 11.2.1 + security patch?
Hopefully they "dial back" the speed secretly.
Oops, this is MacRumors. That was both sarcasm and joking.

That's up to you basically based on whether or not there's anything in iOS 11 that you might want (including various security fixes).I have a iPhone 7 plus on 10.3.3. Should I upgrade to this?
Geekbench results on my X, Air2 and 6S are higher on 11.2.2 than 11.2.1. No, noticeable performance differences
This fixes spectre. Not meltdown. The slowdown in meltdown only affects use cases with lots of kernel calls. Since the countermeasures are currently to disable sharing the kernel address space into the user address space.i have an iphone 8 is this update likely to slow my phone down (like reportedly what is going to happen to PCs when the problem is fixed)?
Geekbench 4.2.1 says my 7plus went from 5857 to 6025 in multi-core which is a non trivial increase.
There seems to be some system tweaks going on with the release.
Amazing how quickly Apple pushed this out after it broke last week.
It’s worth noting that Apple won’t let you download an iOS update as small as 66 MB using cellular data despite allowing much larger app downloads. And, well, you can stream video online until you’re blue in the face.
This is kind of dumb.
If you want the Krack exploit fixed and Meltdown and Spectre mitigated yes. Its running well on my iPhone 7 your mileage my varyI have a iPhone 7 plus on 10.3.3. Should I upgrade to this?
Agree.
I have a data plan of 30GB per month, so I could easily download even an update of 1GB if I wanted to.
There should be a setting, and I'd put it off by default, to allow upgrades and iCloud backups via cellular. You switch it on, the iPhone warns you about data usage, you say yes and you're done.
Never going to happen. If people are lucky ( and Apple do the right thing) , there may be fixes for iOS 8, 9 & 10, bit only for devices that can’t run newer versions.i really think they should release an ios 10 update to fix this, i am on 10 and I am working on something important and I can't risk upgrading right now.
No I meant in iOS not macOS. I realize macOS was already fixed in a beta. iOS has the same issue but you need a mac to see it (in console I think it was) Sorry.
I think you're thinking of iOS 8. That was truly horrible, IMHO. iOS 9 and 10 were both improvements... 11 kind of goes a bit back to iOS 8 in terms of issues and whatnot. So many different experiences of everything it seems. Even some of those who can't stand iOS 11 are more than happy with iOS 10 and felt it was a huge improvement over iOS 9 which was just horrible.
I'm not thinking, simply going by some conversations that I've had with various people in different threads about iOS 11 and how they recalled previous iOS versions. Many people appear to have different takes on different versions (or at the very least different recollections that still influence them nonetheless).I think you're thinking of iOS 8. That was truly horrible, IMHO. iOS 9 and 10 were both improvements... 11 kind of goes a bit back to iOS 8 in terms of issues and whatnot.
But the 5 was sold by Apple until Sept 13 and it’s exact brother ( except case) 5C until September 15 - two year support only for that.
You can see lots of examples where Apple continue to sell older hardware ( and independent retailers even longer), yet Apple drops support quickly.
Microsoft gets a bit of a bashing on these forums, but they released a security patch for XP ( released in 2001!) in June last year.
Yes the iPhone 5 got 4 years support from discontinuation - so people buying just before then or after got a little over or under 4 years support. Those buying 5C got 2 years, iPad Mini 1 year 3 months, iPad 2 - 2 years 6 months, iPhone 4S 2 years, iPhone 4 1 year, iPhone 3GS 1 year etcso per definition the iPhone 5 has been discontinued for 4yrs and 4 months now ... meanwhile the iPhone 5s which is up to 4yrs and 4 months old is still being supported... that's pretty darn good.
How many Android phones are supported with OS updates / patches 4+ yrs after release?
The 8 and 8 Plus processors get hot too but hey, they are fast too.
Boot times are amazing compared to older devices.
I have a feeling this is going to change soon. Apple has already conceded to allowing us to update iCloud Photo Library over cellular, so I'm sure software updates will come eventually.
It's a delicate balance and it involves the carriers' wishes as well. Remember that there are millions of devices out there. Even downloading a 50MB update can severely load the cellular network if tens of thousands of devices in an area are doing it at once. Apple needs to convince the carriers that this won't happen. Thing is, requiring WiFi for some tasks is annoying, because there are people who live nowhere near any WiFi, particularly in rural areas. Imagine having to drive into town to find (probably slow) WiFi just to update your phone? That's gotta be annoying.
Try using your phone without a battery, you use both...Should I update and slow my iPhone, iPad once again?
Should we have the option to turn on/off that “******** option” about saving batterie?
On the Android they don’t slow your phone on pretentious batterie optimization. It is not a batterie I use, it is a phone!
I really believe Apple should be providing security patches to all their devices for a min of 5 years after they stop selling those devices.
