For those of you who've been using the beta: how long does it take for all your devices with the same OS to get the messages? My iPhone has messages going back to 2014, when I got my first iPhone, and I'm waiting for them to show up on the iPad but no luck yet. Thought I'd at least see them populating, but so far not so. Have got it turned on on both devices, 2FA long ago enabled, etc.

And you lose your phone or it breaks, then what? All those photos are gone.

I also like it because when I get a new iPhone, I always set up as new. I turn on iCloud photos, and all my photos are there. No need to set up from back up

I love seeing people who come into the one shop I work at “you can’t save my photos?, this is the only spot I had them!” And their photos are gone forever.

Use iTunes and backup the iphone (or use iCloud backup) which restores all photos and messages etc.

How do you know if messages in the cloud is fully synced? Just enabled it but don't see a progress bar or whatsoever.
*edit: nvm , you have to go to the messages app to see the progress, stupid me

For what it’s worth, I just uninstalled my PB profile, then shut down my iPad and iPhone, rebooted, then the official 11:4 release appeared for download.

Don’t need message in the cloud or photo library when I have 256gb tbh don’t see the point

I kind of agree. The only reason I care about MITC is the ability to delete a message on one device and have it removed from all devices but it doesn’t even do that reliably. At least not as of the last beta anyway.

Deservedly so. If they were important, they'd be backed up. iCloud Photo Library isn't a backup.

“Apple's iCloud Photo Libary service works flawlessly to sync and back up your images and video to iCloud”

It’s better than not having anytjing at all. I go one step further and once all photos are downloaded to my MacBook, then back that up.

This may just be assumed, but there’s also a HomePod update through the Home app lol.

Yeah... I also said in the same post that when I get a new iPhone, I always set up as new. I get my new iPhone (or iPad), log into my iCloud account, and all of my photos are there.

Two things concerning iMessages. I’ve yet to see anything on security. The old way iMessages worked was end to end encryption with a message composed for each Apple device. How does the new method keep messages secure both in transit and when stored?

Also, do you have to turn on the message archiving to get messages to delete across devices? Or can you just turn on the deleting across device feature. I really only want messages to be deleted. I don’t want Apple to archive all my messages.

Changes made on one device apply to all. The server keeps everything in sync and your devices all present the same view.

Except through every beta to this point it hasn’t worked as advertised. Often, when I power up my MBP and open messages old messages that have been deleted on other devices will remain in the MacBook. Even after hitting the “sync now” tab in preferences.

That's a feature. It's called the TimeToGetMoreMoneyFromGuillaumeBsWife function. It's a common feature across iOS devices, apparently with some cutting-edge customizations to make it unique to each user but still lead to the same outcome. It can manifest in many different ways but all of them are designed to point one to an Apple store.
(...)

I'm well aware of planned obsolescence but this usually happens on a major upgrade not a .x update
