Best thing I’ve found so far is the ability to turn the Wi-Fi radio completely off with Siri shortcuts. I’ve added that task to my “Leaving Home” routine. Very nice.
"So, for example, you can create a shortcut to do something like turn on the thermostat at home using the Nest app"
This is literally something I'd love to set up a shortcut for as I own a Nest thermostat. I've been trying to do this in the app for 5 minutes. Either this is false advertising or not intuitive.
I just don’t get the use of this app. I never got the use of workflow either. For example: if I set up a shortcut with an activation phrase of “Siri I’m watching a movie” and it turned on Do Not Disturb, why wouldn’t I instead just tell Siri to turn on Do Not Disturb ??
During the beta, people came together to build out their uses for the shortcuts app where you can import/export shortcuts:

enjoy!
Does anyone know how to set up "When I return home" type of automation? I want to turn on my Home connected lights (run a scene) when I come back home. Cannot figure it out.
I opened the URL on my phone in Safari and clicked a shortcut to test. It asked to open it in the Shortcuts app, which it did. From there, I could edit it, run it, create an icon on the homescreen etc. All worked well. Just trying to actually think of what I'd like to create shortcuts to do, so I could contribute something myself! That would be great if you could actually open the shared shortcuts, but being limited to just seeing what shortcuts people have created (without being able to re-create them) is kind of useless.
The App has to have support for Siri Shortcuts for this to work. So will need to wait for a Nest update. A few apps I use have just updated with Siri Shortcuts support, including CityMapper which is actually very useful.

Shortcuts don't run on the Mac anyway.Oh, that's cool. Doesn't work on a Mac.
Anyone have a good resource on how to use the app? Or where to get pre-made shortcuts? Seems like a lot of tedious work to get it to flow properly.
Not much of a "it just works" mindset, imho. But I am just now looking at the app for the first time.
Right, unless one was opening on an IOS app, you would think the link didn't work.Shortcuts don't run on the Mac anyway.
So some things I’d appreciate knowing from early adopters:
- What happens to Workflow after updating to iOS 12. Gone?
- What happens to existing workflows? Important, as I have the now-irreplaceable Download YouTube flow I really would rather keep.
Thanks!

I got as far as recording a Siri command to "turn on the AC," and open the Nest app, but I have no idea how to get it to adjust the temperature setting... sigh
If this is even possible, I can't believe no one has done this already and posted / shared the script!!
Yes, gone, once you upgrade the app in the app store. Superceded.
Existing work flows are brought forward automatically.
It's not possible if or until Nest add the capability. They'd need to integrate with Shortcuts by donating the intent.
Apparently, downloading YouTube videos violates google POS. As such, my understanding is that the Download YouTube workflow is no longer available. I’m wondering if my new shortcut library would include all of my existing workflows, or just those that are officially supported. Somehow doubt that I will end up with this workflow, as it is not supported by Apple. It was kind of a big deal when this workflow came out, and I really would hate to lose it.
I guess it was just bad reporting by MacRumors then as the article clearly states:
"So, for example, you can create a shortcut to do something like turn on the thermostat at home using the Nest app,..."
Works for me. Shortcuts; iOS 12 GM. Be sure you are not trying to download a music video or a video with popular music playing over it—all other YouTube videos I’ve tested work fine.Apparently, downloading YouTube videos violates google POS. I had a workflow to download videos from YouTube. Still works.
Thanks both. Never heard of some sort of music video restriction before. So, I just tried downloading to my iPhone a music video I have downloaded before, and this time the workflow fails. The last WF update must’ve crippled it. Thanks Apple.Works for me. Shortcuts; iOS 12 GM.
