How do you know that the performance improvement isn't merely bringing it back to iOS 10 level from iOS 11's slowdown?

I'm on 10.x myself. Interested in iOS 12 ONLY for the performance "focus" of the version, but I want to see how performance and bug levels compare to iOS 10.

excellent question, and something i've been wondering about

i'm actually not sure, although arstechnica's review of ios 12 shows improvements in app launch times for the 5s on ios 12 compared to 10, but i'm still skeptical if the difference will be considerable on newer devices

I updated my i6 and looks like I lost my bluetooth icon. As of now, there is not much that was added and don't see a difference. I know, too early to provide much feedback.

iPad Pro 10.5

I just updated and so far I don't notice anything meaningfully different. Nothing seems better, nothing seems worse.

I recieved that too, i just followed the prompts, I'm surprised there was no update to iTunes released today.
I never got it and I couldn’t update over iTunes because of it. After I updated to iOS12 OTA, iTunes wouldn’t even show my phone as being connected. I had the latest iTunes (12.8.0) and App Store showed nothing. I had to delete iTunes through terminal then download iTunes from Apple and re-install. After that as soon as I plugged my X in it said a file needed to be added to connect with my phone and the pop up you showed came up. Now everything works perfectly. iTunes still shows as 12.8.0...

Benchmarked my 6s. Quite an improvement I can say

Updated iTunes Enterprise version available

I tried all day to update my iPhone 6 Plus over-the-air but it either aborted during the download or when verifying the download.

I then tried to update my 6 Plus via iTunes, but iTunes told me I was already on the current version. This is with the 12.6.3 version of iTunes Enterprise installed.

I found this Apple support notice from September 12, 2018 announcing an update to the Enterprise version.

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208079

After I installed the iTunes Enterprise 12.6.5.3 version, iTunes reported an update was available for my 6 Plus. It downloaded iOS 12 and installed on my 6 Plus successfully.

I have a 7 Plus and the Measure app is wildly variable. I tested it with a ruler and I've gotten everything from 11" to 12.5". I measured a 6.5" x 9" box that it told me was 5" x 7". It'll be great for approximates but I hope over time it gets more reliable.

No software should release with this kind of mindset. If it's known and reported, fix before delivering. Stop normalizing buggy software releases.

Unfortunately a lot of software is released with bug, some are caught on time, some not. Some are caught on time with a fix in the next update. Even if Apple did fix the bug, there requires testing etc and who knows a worse bug could crop up. In the realm of software, if it is not a show stopper, release.

It is also unfortunate that Apples QA for software and hardware have been slipping over the years. A bitter sweet pill.

My iPhone 7 running iOS 10 just told me there is an iOS 11 update. I clicked details and it showed iOS 12. No thank you.

Does your Enterprise have Data and Geordi installed? Because that would fix that super quick.

Seems to be a little of unusual battery drain on my iPhone X. Haven't used much today since upgrading to iOS 12 and its currently at 44%. Will continue monitor.

So who is this brainiac at Apple that came up with this complete eyesore on the widget screen of iOS 12? I don't know about anyone else, but the light blue and red colored text overlaying that shade of gray hurts the eyes and is plain hard to see. Not to mention the ridiculous little "Set up Screen Time in Setting" splash that occurs right over the top of everything when you first swipe over to the widgets screen. Wow is all I can really say. How does stuff like this slip through final approval?

Except that you can delete on iPhone...

Wow. I just feel that all this tech is slipping away from me, or me from it.

Everything in your MacRumors video about new features in iOS 12 is detailing features that I won't use. But of course I upgraded for security reasons. Having the latest security features is what matters to me, but that's all behind-the-scenes stuff that doesn't make for entertaining product announcements.

I've still got an iPhone SE, which I love chiefly because of its small screen. It seems to run iOS 12 just fine and suits all my needs for now.

I want a telephone and an email and messaging platform, and above all a means to listen to my music library and Apple Music in the highest audio fidelity. I insist on wired earbuds because the wire enables audio quality that is superior to any wireless earbuds or earphones yet developed, and audio quality is the most important thing to me. Plus wired earbuds don't require batteries or charging.

I have never used Notifications and I don't want anything on my lock screen. I've always disabled all those features in every version of iOS so far, and I just disabled all of it in iOS 12 as well.

It's a philosophical matter. I see no reason to let anybody's incoming messages, regardless of the medium, interrupt my daily activities. Most of the time I keep my phone in Do Not Disturb mode. I don't want Notifications with a capital "N" or a lower-case "n". I want to choose when to look at my phone and see what messages have arrived there since the last time I looked at it, and to decide to respond to each message or not, in my own time. I don't want to be distracted by other peoples' attempts to get my attention, through my phone. But I do want to call them with my voice and hear their voices in plain old-fashioned phone calls. That's important.

I would really enjoy using FaceTime more to communicate with friends, but I don't seem to know anybody willing to use it. I call people all the time and suggest that we FaceTime, but most of them would rather text than talk with their voice. If they're not willing to talk, why should I think they'd be willing to have us see each others' faces while we communicate? FaceTime is an insanely great technology that, more and more, fewer and fewer people want to use. So another insanely great expansion of FaceTime's technological scale and capabilities, for massive multi-user conference calls, comes along in iOS 12, when nobody wants to FaceTime anymore. Oh, well.

I don't use emojis in any fashion, let alone animojis, and now ...MeMoji? I just don't care. Apple puts so much emphasis on developing this stuff, but all that is meaningless to me.

I don't use Siri for anything. I don't want Siri Suggestions so I've just gone in and disabled all that (which takes way too much time in the Settings by the way.) So Siri Shortcuts is something else I can't see myself ever using. All because I don't use any voice commands on my phone. I have never seen the point in it.

I have no interest in AR. I've never seen any application or use case for the technology that appeals to me in any way.

I've been using and owning Apple technology since around 1980, and Apple devices have figured in each day of my life at least since 1987 when I got my first Macintosh. That's a long time. I guess I've gotten to the point where the newest technological innovations do not excite me anymore. But I've been loyal to Apple all these years, and I remain so.
