So some of these security fixes were fixed for iOS 16.7.1 (currently 16.7.2), but it's now getting fixed for iOS 17? Glad I'm not running iOS 17 for any critical devices.

actally it is linux when you jailbreak it you can see a linux filesytem same for android and macos so everything (but windows) is linux
Unless you have a DEC PDP-11 with the UNIX Time-Sharing System (e.g. like the one used by Sun Oil Trading Co. and Sun International Ltd.).

Apple today released iOS 17.1.2 and iPadOS 17.1.2, small updates to the iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 operating systems that Apple introduced in September. iOS 17.1.2 and iPadOS 17.1.2 come a few weeks after the release of iOS 17.1.1, another bug fix update.

iOS 17.1.2 and iPadOS 17.1.2 can be downloaded on eligible iPhones and iPads over-the-air by going to Settings > General > Software Update.

According to Apple's release notes, iOS 17.1.2 includes important security fixes. Specifically, the update addresses vulnerabilities that may have been exploited in earlier versions of iOS.Apple is already working on a major iOS 17.2 update that is set to come out in December. iOS 17.2 includes the Journal app, changes to the Apple TV app, new Weather widgets, and more, with full details available in our iOS 17.2 guide.

Well, thanks a lot for the update, Apple. Now I can’t even use my phone. It’s completely useless. I get the Apple logo, but once I get to the Home Screen to unlock it, it is completely unresponsive.

Brand new iPhone 15 pro max and I am writing this post on my old iPhone X.

Do I have to skip work tomorrow and take it somewhere? This is stupid.

And no, a hard reset did not work.
Wtf?

I am beyond pissed off.

Same thing happened to me too (iPhone 15 Pro). When I connected the phone to my Mac, it reported that it was in DFU mode and needed to be restored. That's what I did and it's now recovering the previous iCloud backup.

That’s wrong macOS, iPadOS , iOS etc are NOT Linux based they are Unix based systems what you see is the Unix file system (unix has been around since the 1950/60)
That's somewhat right.

UNIX has been around since 1970. BSD has been around since 1978.

That sounds like my Google Pixel 6a, which I found to be updated to Android 14, without my authorization. It then told me that my data was corrupt and the only way to fix the problem was to do a factory data reset.

It's nice to know that Apple is as incompetent as Google sometimes.

Sorry for your (data) loss.

Wonder if this fixes the SSO issue they introduced with 17.1.1 for Entra ID scenarios in web browsers?
Very interesting post, do you have any more info related to this bug or if it has been fixed.
We are currently running around 900 17.1.1 units and are heavily dependent on SSO, but havin said that, I'm not sure how many that are actually using SSO in webbrowsers.
I know the intranet sites do but not sure about apps such as MS Defender if they are relying on webbrowsers to login?

Just wanted to say thank you to all of you that's posting serious feedback about the update. 🙏
It does help people like myself during testing and what feedback to ask people, its not possible to keep track on all bugs being fixed (or added).

Is this the end of the iOS 16 update track? I’m seeing the iOS 17 update in full view now, including the wonderful Settings badge…

There must be some real 💩 exploit fixed by 17.1.2 that even my IT Security Department forces people to update immediately or Apple device will be blocked from use (we use some iPhones and iPads there).

I am guessing not. There's still heaps of "fresh" devices that can't update to iOS 17.
Apple did release security and bugupdates for iOS 15 just before iOS 17 was released and I am expecting apple to do the same for iOS 16 now. It will most likely only be fixes, not feature updates for iOS 16.
