I am guessing not. There's still heaps of "fresh" devices that can't update to iOS 17.
Apple did release security and bugupdates for iOS 15 just before iOS 17 was released and I am expecting apple to do the same for iOS 16 now. It will most likely only be fixes, not feature updates for iOS 16.
Maybe Apple stopped allowing iOS 16 devices that can update to 17 from updating to new iOS 16 versions? I wouldn’t know, nothing I have runs iOS 16 (or 17, for that matter).

No, all Appledevices that are on iOS 16 can apply iOS 16 updates (16.7.2 is the latest), doesn't matter if they can update to iOS 17 or not.

I’ll never understand people who complain about updates. Apple even includes an option to install overnight so you are not even inconvenienced with the install.
The complaints are not about the updates themselves, but the fact that there are so many so often, which means Apple is not developing software at the quality level we should expect.

If that is OK with people, then we'll never get any improvements in Apple's software development process. All Apple cares about is the revenue stream. Better quality software costs money and that money spent on software quality reduces the money available for Cook's yacht.

For myself, that is not acceptable. Does Apple do better than others in the industry, of course. Is it good enough, NO.

My 15 Pro Max hit 108 degrees Fahrenheit while downloading and updating as well

Wow. Actual data ! Thank you!

What was room ambient temp? Or the temp of the surface the iPhone was on while updating (before you put it there)?

Looks like these zero day bugs won’t be fixed in 16.x

Haven't they already been fixed?!

According to what MR quotes here, the new update 17.1.2 fixes pre-16.7.1 issues.

“Processing web content may disclose sensitive information. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been exploited against versions of iOS before iOS 16.7.1.”

“Processing web content may lead to arbitrary code execution. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been exploited against versions of iOS before iOS 16.7.1.”
The Apple blurb I read mentions the same security update for iOS and iPad OS. See https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201222

My iPad 9 is running 16.7.2, so I see no need to rush to update for security reasons… whether I want the other new features or not — e.g., Health on the iPad — is another matter.

Can confirm that we do not have iOS 16 or 15 fix releases as of right now.
The iOS 16 device only shows iOS 17 update and iOS 15 shows no updates.

Give it a day or two if it needs to be patched.
It could also be the case that 16.7.2 isn't affected, they say its been exploited in 16.7.1 and below.
I interpret that as 16.7.2 it's affected, it does sound strange that tho.

I am just very happy that Apple is working on fixing things in their OS for both iPads and iPhones.
I feel also the buying public has been asked to do a lot of Apples testing, so now it's their chance to get things correct.

Bluetooth calling dropping in the car and 100% unusable bug solved?. No, I don’t have car play, but Bluetooth to make calls, but my 15PM “just don’t work“
I've experienced a handful of dropped WiFi calling 'calls' inexplicably, and I have WiFi 6 and fiber internet; and never had a problem until IOS 17 etc. Let's see if that's fixed.

I seemed to have lost 5g connectivity with vzw. Stuck on lte.

15 Pro Max. I reset network settings. Didn’t fix. Chatted with vzw. No help yet. Other phones on my account are ok.

After upgrade touch on screen of my iPhone 15 does not work. It is showing everything, I can even do a screenshot, but touch function of the screen is dead. WTF, I can't do anything with the phone.
I did force restart and nothing changed.

UPDATE: I managed to restore software somehow, although phone was in DFU mode. Now it is fine. Lost few things as I didn't had all backed up.

Since updating to this version I’ve noticed battery life on a low signal cellular connection is much better on my 15PM on EE in the UK. On all other versions since release my battery would get destroyed when in a low signal but so far after a few days it’s doing really well.

It does not appear that this update works
I tried updating to iOS 17.1.2
It tells me that iTunes needs to be updated to latest version in order to install this update
I go to update iTunes, it tells me I am already using the latest version
Just more typically disappointing broken Apple software. Sigh.

Has anyone updated an iPhone SE II to 17.1.2.? I’m running 16.7.2 and am worried as much about performance, including battery life, as I am about security updates. The size of the update suggests there are a lot of new features, but I don’t need any I’ve read about.

Read the release notes. It tells you everything that went into the release. There are no new features if going from 17.1 to 17.1.1 to 17.1.2, but coming from IOS 16, there are a LOT of updates and features. best to read before updating.

Thanks for Your comment — sounds like good advice! I’ll probably stay with 16.7.2 until I need to upgrade to a new phone. (Yeah, there’s the security risk, but I’m not a power-user.)
