The Photos update is embarrassing because all those options should have been available in the first place. Whoever is responsible for the Photos app changes should be fired because they lack basic sense.

I hope they fixed the issue with RCS not working with a VPN enabled. Really annoying. I missed a lot of important messages before I realized the issue. I'll see soon. Really annoyed at them enabling things I specifically disabled.

YMMV, but I've found that the ability to turn off the useless (to me, again, YMMV) icons in iOS 18.4 Mail has no effect, even through cyclings of the Settings -> Apps -> Mail -> "Show Contact Photos" switch, and power cycling the phone. Oddly, this solution to Apple's really obnoxious (yup, YMMV) "feature" still works in iPadOS 18.4. For me.

The ambient music controls don't show up in Control Center by default. You need to long press on Control Center, then use "Add a Control" at the bottom. The ambient music choices will show up there so that you can add them to your CC.

Actually, my “summarize previews” feature is gone too. I wonder if it’s downloading and installing new LLM models. That might be why the phone gets hot and why the features are missing.

But some kind of feedback would have been nice… assuming that’s what’s actually going on here.

Yep, exactly this. Once iOS/iPadOS/macOS is updated, it still needs to download the updates for Apple Intelligence...meaning:

1. You need to remain on Wi-Fi for the Apple Intelligence updates to download (it does not download over cellular).
2. You cannot use any AI features until this is completed.

This is rather annoying. Hopefully Apple improves this process in the future.

I noticed that the install behavior changed slightly. It used to be that after downloading and preparing then a dialog box would appear asking if you wanted to install now or later. Now that same dialog appears but it adds a ten second counter to proceed with the install if you don’t intervene. This may have been there earlier but it is the first time I noticed it. Really helpful, it was so annoying to come back expecting your device to be updated and instead find that dialog. (I know, first world problem.)

It’s just an absolute mess with CarPlay and Bluetooth. So many excuses, but no older iPhone had these issues before the 15 Pro.

I don't know if it's all VPNs or specific ones. I use ExpressVPN. I started noticing after a reboot that messages came in that were several days old. I turned off the VPN and they started coming in normally. It's hit or miss with sending messages, but I don't receive any when the VPN is enabled. There are a few posts in the developer forums. Seems like it's been an issue since RCS released with iOS 18.

You’re right, it’s just awful. Took maybe three minutes for me. How dare Apple take away 3 minutes of my life! I could have done something else for those 3 minutes, but I decided to repeatedly check my phone instead.

Audi A6, no issues since purchasing in 2021, over several generations of iPhones and software updates.
Will try removing phone and adding again tomorrow…

It's especially odd that Apple allows iOS updates to be downloaded over cellular, but not Apple Intelligence. So if you update your phone over cellular while you're on the go...too bad...you're not getting Apple Intelligence anything back until you connect to Wi-Fi (Cleanup Tool, Summaries, new Siri, etc). Sure, not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things, but it is a bit jarring when your phone suddenly reverts back to old behavior until Apple Intelligence has a chance to update. I was wondering why my notifications weren't summarized anymore, and old/dumb Siri kept popping on my screen instead of new Siri.
