Free Xcode 3.2.6 Works On iPad 2 As Well

Actually, some people say it works with Xcode 3. From what I gather, for iPad 1, you can use the oldest Xcode that recognizes it, and for iPad 2, you need Xcode 4. I have not tested this, but will test it on Xcode 3.2.6 with an iPad 1 soon.
Get a free developer account at Apple. Register with your iTunes email + password. Then download the free 4GB 3.2.6 Xcode. Select your attached iPad and press make developer unit. Enter your email + password. Look in your general settings to see Multitasking Gestures below the new switch audio or aspect lock. I don't understand why this wasn't included in the 4.3 release. It radically improves your iPad experience. :D

Battery life also seems much snappier.

I can confirm, at least on the 3GS, there is no change to battery life with this update.

Before the update I would lose 28-32% battery life in a 12 hours period in sleep mode, no apps running in the background.

After last nights download and exactly 12 hours later, in sleep mode with no apps running in the background, I'm at 29% battery loss.

I concur.

I finally made the dramatic step of restoring as a new iPhone. Have no apps installed nor running, Ping is switched off as are Notifications, Location Services and Push.

Left the phone in standby overnight. During the first hour, I noticed minimal drain to 99%. Went to sleep and woke about five hours later. Battery life showing 49%. FOURTY-NINE PER CENT? In five hours? On standby?

This is way unacceptable and I don't want anyone telling me this is a broken device. It has been perfect until the on-set of 4.3 so the conclusion is the software update has screwed the battery.

And in the absence of an acknowledgement of the fault from Apple, I am beginning to wonder whether this has been done to force an upgrade to iPhone 5.

I wouldn't mind but 10.6.7 has done something similar to my Mac i.e. hugely sluggish despite very few processes running.

Mega PO'd with Apple at the moment. iPad 2 order now scrapped indefinitely.

You should also have REDUCED DROPPED CALLS OR NONE AT ALL because the 4.3.1 update updates the UMTS vo-coder baseband used to communicate with updated AT&T cell sites (nearly 100% complete) which allows AT&T to boost voice capacity (3GPP R6 on the iPhone R7 on the other HSPA+ devices).

Turning 3G off

Can you turn off 3G and test again? I don't have issues with my battery, except when Im in low signal areas.... that really drains my battery. I switch 3G off and it helps a little.

Has anybody experienced this issue in 4.3
I get an SMS, click on view. SMS app opens with the text message and the keyboard enabled.

Previously I was using 4.0.1 and only the text message opens. Once I click on the text area, then only the keyboard opens.

I am using the 3GS.

Nope

makes sense, but the PING setting being on IS the battery problem.

The problem IS Safari's improvements to JavaScript. Before I upgraded to 4.3.1, which seems to have corrected the battery issue, I shut off Safari and used the Mercury browser and the battery issue seems to have been fixed.

The YouTube app is not letting me play a lot of content "the owner of this video does not allow playback on the iPad."

Lady GaGa's Born This Way (Country Road Version) played before I updated and now won't play in the app - it will play in Safari on YouTubes website...

Your iPad is pretty intelligent. I'd like to find the model that blocks crap like Lady Gaga.:D

Can you do this via Virtual Machine on windows?

Have you turned the phone off then on again after doing the restore, some people said doing that helped them in another thread i read.

Do you use iTunes?:p

actually there's a valid reason to ask this, as alot of the time, downloading the update outside of itunes downloads much quicker. iTunes was downloading at a snails pace claiming 2 hours and this was after 40 minutes, so i bailed and got a download link and had it in 20 minutes

Batter Life is looking good on iPhone 4

I can confirm, at least on the 3GS, there is no change to battery life with this update.

I've got an iPhone 4, installed the update, disabled Ping and I'm still at 93% battery life after 12 hours in standby (overnight). Seems OK to me! :D

Add me to that the list requesting that feature set. Matter of fact, perhaps we could also incorporate that as a feature in safari - set GAGA block ON!

Well I know what I'll be doin on Sunday afternoon :D

I hate to jump on the running joke, lol, but it does seem smoother (snappier!) and battery life does seem a little better.

I rebooted my iPhone 4 the other day because it seemed a little sluggish when tearing through my app screens. It didn't change anything.

Yeah, that's happened to me. Had to force quit the messages app.

mambo966 and andythursby

I tried something a bit different this time...

I switched off all of the Game Center settings in Restrictions and also turned off the Set Automatically option in the date/time settings. Then charged it to 100% and took it out with me.

So far, the battery has only lost 6% in approx 2 hours and 45 minutes. This is with 3G switched on and some very brief web browsing during the half-time period at the soccer match I was attending.

I guess the next step will be to restore from my backup and follow the same course of action.

As an aside, I still have push.apple.com traffic on TCP as well as compute-1.amazonaws.com. I know what the former is but does anyone know what Amazon Web Services is doing (no Amazon app or site visits)?

You guys have convinced me to update.

That is, as soon as I get back to the office to download it on my computer. I'm afraid getting Netflix this month for the first time has blown my bandwidth cap big time. Too many Prisonbreak reruns. :D

4 is definitely snappier. Battery Life appears no different. Calls seems stronger. Although never had a dropped call with my 4.

3Gs no change in performance, or Battery Life. VERY noticeable improvement in voice quality and strength when talking from my 4 to both 3Gs users in my family. One out of state. :apple:

Do you have a source for this? It's interesting and I want to learn more.

(and the link you provided doesn't have any information; I checked.)

AWS is Amazon's web hosting service. It's fairly common for the iOS games I use to try to contact a server on there, likely to "phone home" to send analytics data. I've blocked it wholesale with Firewall IP because I feel there is no reason for an app to be contacting any AWS server.

Yep, noticed the iPhone 4 was snappier right off the bat.
