The new 'natural' sounding Siri for Australia is a real step backwards. She sounds positively robotic now and somewhat harder to understand.

High quality voices will be downloaded in the background the next time you leave your device plugged into a power source.

It's a damn shame Apple patched the jailbreak. Steve Jobs is gone, why can't they just forget about the BS and let people do what they want with their phones? ******** if you ask me.

So if you jailbreak your phone, introduce an unintended security flaw, and someone steals your credit card info, will you definitely not go online and declare Apple's incompetence in protecting its users?

Yeah? Can you guarantee that no one else will?

Ran Geekbench 3 before the update (all apps closed, just restarted). I ran the update to 7.1, then ran Geekbench 3 again. I'm worse off than I was before the update....

Geekbench on iOS tests raw performance from the point of view of a sandboxed app, it can't test system-level UI code like transitions and app switching. And it won't show improvements made to the other built-in apps.

anyone else location services icon on and won't shut off? no apps running either

Not here but do you have the Google App? That will cause that as its part of the Google Now feature. You can turn it off in the app settings. Not really running the GPS (according to google) but the icon is there.

Thanks I will check that out, actually my air has the google app and isn't showing the icon only when the app is open. I'm restoring the phone only way I can get rid of it

In the beta, and therefore probably in the final version, you start with the low quality version, then after leaving the device charging and connected to wifi overnight, the high quality voice downloads and you'll notice a change. That's what happened in the beta.

Same here - it appears that two of my weather apps and the Nike Move app are using location services even though the apps are not running. If I disable location services for those, the icon goes away.

Is there any way to change back to full screen caller photos? Without jailbreak? Any apps or something? I can't believe they went with this new design..:/ They touted its attractiveness and usefulness on WWDC, and now seemingly without any reason they change to this ugly small circled picture. Seriously, how is this more useful or more aesthetically pleasing than it was in iOS 7?

They seem to keep changing things without any logic or reason. Makes me think there is a lack of leadership in the iOS development team. Either that or they can't make up their mind. Not sure which is worse.

LOOOL. U seriously not updating because of that? :D:D:D

I don't like the new small contact picture when you receive a call - it's way too small. What's the point in having a contact picture if it's not used very well?

Yes, I'm not updating because of that, a $700 device is not able to show a full picture. What is this blackberry OS?
Also the update doesn't give me anything to shake my head to update, so yeah, looks like I'm staying with previous version :)

For those with Tesco Mobile in the UK, the carrier update enables tethering at long last.

I'm restoring the phone but if it is what it is now oh well. My air pretty much mirrors my phone when it comes to apps and it's not showing a empty location icon.

Should be able to turn off Location Reporting in the google app settings>google now>location>location reporting switch.

If google is the cause a restore probably will not resolve it. Try and close google app and see if i goes away. Let us know what you find.

Anyone know if I can install this update without a SIM?

Perhaps background app refresh off for those apps will help.

Yeah all my apps are closed. I even deleted the google app before I restored the phone and it wouldn't go away. I'm restoring the phone but seems it installed iTunes version of 7.1 so maybe it will fix if not I can live with it I guess unles it doesn't effect battery
