I wonder when they'll fix the annoying random bug on iPad when you zoom in with safari and the horizontal scroll bar sticks to the middle of the screen such as this:

https://app.box.com/s/rtxxhi2w2jrcyifbas65

It's only been like... over a year since this bug existed? And the only way to get rid of it is to quit safari from multitasking and relaunch. Only for it to come back again randomly at some time later.

Edit: Since I'm tired of waiting for a fix to this bug, I decided to google it and turns out it's related to the split keyboard so I've disabled it till Apple finally fixes it. Although I like using the split keyboard....

I find the shift button thing still very confusing. Why not do something like this?

The shift/caps button is an odd button, even on one's keyboard it has an LED light to indicate it's pressed. IMHO, it'd be more intuitive to have some sort of unique colorful indicator like in this mockup I made.

Seems like the multitask screen does some sort of anti-aliasing on the application screenshots. If you enter the multitask screen, the current app open will not have the anti-aliasing. However, if you switch to another app and open the multitask screen again, the previous app will have the anti-aliasing treatment. Most noticeable on the texts...

Edit: Not sure if its visible in the image but the "Settings" text should show the effect the clearest.
Edit 2: Just checked and apparently it only appears to happen on the iPhone 5. iPhone 4 & 4S doesn't seem to do that.

You are kidding, right? This is just annoying and should never be happening. Or do you think Apple intended for us to lose text typed on websites, just because we had to lookup something quickly and then return to Safari? Ridiculous.

I am so much happier using OS X for Internet surfing, and everything else actually. The iPad is for me a convenience, a luxury item without much meaning. It's a gadget that I want to have though, I am just disappointed with its limitations.

No I wasn't kidding and it might've been good for you to at least answer the question rather than ranting. I simply asked if there was any verification from Apple if the tab reloading was an actual defect in Safari?

Animations have been sped up. But everything data related is much faster on my iPhone 5s. Not just Safari, Facebook too.

Have been playing with it since this morning.

Animation, network (especially on bad networks) and UI interaction (including Touch ID) feel noticeably quicker and smoother.

I answered the question. There is no way Apple will want to have tab reloading. Not a chance in a million.

Maybe it was Scott Forstalls idea so to do it is to admit he was right.

Still not updating star ratings of songs and (I think, but not 100% sure) play counts back to iTunes. If course, this may be an iTunes bug rather than an iOS one - anyone know?

This means nothing.

Geekbench tests CPU not GPU/Core Animation API which is what actually renders the UI.

I know that the UI is rendered by the the GPU.

So you have a picture drawn fast but waiting on the data that goes in the picture because the CPU is slower and does not process data as quickly.

Or did I suddenly forget how a computer works?

Can't wait to try this on my iPad 3. iPhone 5 update is less urgent.

Doesn't feel optimized on the iPad 3 for me. I haven't put it on my iPad 4 yet, I'll do that later tonight.

My iPhone 4S runs great on 7.1, I just wish my iPad 3 were as fast as my iPhone 4S. It doesn't make a lot of sense. The iPad should be faster but it's now. I can live with it, but I'm a little disappointed with iPad performance.

sorry should have stated: that is ios 7.0 autolock timeout: 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 minutes (or never).
in ios 7.0, passcode timeout has one option "immediately".

Im not sure why passcode and autolock have separate configurable timeouts. Seems they would follow eachother.

This is not true for me. I had Auto Lock set to 1 minute and Require Passcode set to 4 hours under iOS 7.0...

Except the guy was talking about animations not data loading.

so currently I'm on 7.0.4.

and I have 7.0.6 downloaded and pending install.

So I have to install it then I can see 7.1?

Probably. Probably faster to just do it instead of thinking about it for so long, it's not a big deal :).

With javascripts disabled, every Safari crash disappear on websites like nin.com, iphonefoto.cz, etc...

Maybe with another quick update we can solve this problem anytime soon...

even on my desktop browser it lags.....

Yup, it has an extremely large page, consuming, according to my becnhmarks, between 300-400 Mbytes of RAM per tab on Retina iPads running iOS 7.0.x. (Somewhat less on 7.1.x., particularly on the iPhone. On 64-bit devices, the RAM usage is about 30-40MBytes more than with 32-bit ones, assuming otherwise the same OS versions and circumstances.) This means you in no way can keep two of those pages in-memory on separate tabs, not even in iOS7.1. (I've tested this too.)

Just tried both on my iPad 4th gen. Works just fine. DFU restore, set up as new.

Dude let it go. Most people don't surf the same areas on the web as you do.

It's not a fav band of mine either. (Actually, I didn't even bother listening to them.) I just use their page as an example of a page with extreme (but still not-that-hard-to-run-into) size, perfect for benchmarking and crash proof tests.

----------

Well that crashed safari for me! Couldn't even load one tab... Booooooo

Try rebooting and/or killing eveything else. Then, it'll surely work as it won't consume more than 400 Mbytes of RAM, not even on 64 bit systems. (As I've pointed out above, Safari consumes some 20% more memory than on 32-bit devices when rendering the same webpage on 64-bit ones, otherwise assuming the same resolution and OS version.)

----------

Both sites loaded without crashing.

Yup, as I explained above, the mem requirement of nin.com is around 300-400 Mbytes on a Retina iPad (much less on non-Retina iPads or, even better, any kind of iPhones.). It CAN be allocated in any freshly-rebooted Retina iPad, as they can have even 700 Mbytes of free RAM. Even 64-bit ones after some Safari crashes, which force the system to free up memory that, otherwise, would remain allocated, even after a fresh reboot. (It's, according to my benchmarks, around 70-100 Mbytes that the system can additionally free up on 64-bit iPads, both under 7.0.6 and 7.1, reaching about 700 Mbytes free.)

The new 'natural' sounding Siri for Australia is a real step backwards. She sounds positively robotic now and somewhat harder to understand.

Anybody have this problem where the "subscribe to iTunes Match" button does not work? it works fine on my iPhone 4S but doesn't seem to be working with my iPad mini

Won't install on iPhone 4

Anyone else struggling to get 7.1 to install on an iPhone 4? i have tried 4 times using OTA, It downloads and installs, reboots but when i check it is still on 7.06 and tells me 7.1 is available so i have now connected it to iTunes using a cable and now iTunes reads waiting for iPhone to respond with the Apple logo on the iPhone with the progress bar not moving? It has been like this now for over an hour?

Should i be doing something else? it installed perfectly on my iPad 3.

** Sorted, but the only way i could do it was by doing a clean install if it helps anyone else in the same predicament **
