nice, downloading asap. want to try the notes app, but it will not sync to my mac until el capitan :(
Very curious about this: is it possible to keep using the old Notes format in iOS 9, or once the device is upgraded, Notes won't sync anymore with a mac which is not on 10.11?

What the hell does that even mean? You've "paid into the system" the moment you bought the phone. The update is still free.
not really, as a company apple takes some of the money and put into the software development cost.

it is not FREE, same with Mac OS X updates as well (part of the hardware money reserved for software development and future releases).

in USA nothing is free, friend.

I've got the GM beta release on mine- do I need to restore it back to pre-beta to get the official update???
Nop... I had the GM on mine too. I backed my phone up last night so I was not worried about losing anything, and for the first time I installed the actual version over the GM (first time they allow me to).

OTA update worked perfectly! No restore needed, just OTA it and install, just be sure it is backed up just in case.

My guess is that the servers are getting hit hard and this is going to be an issue until demand settles a bit.

There's going to be a demand spike as soon as it becomes available (19 minutes ago) which will last until the majority of those people actually download. Once that initial spike goes away, it should be much easier.

Right now, my iPhone 6 Plus is rebooting with the update, my iPad Air 2 is still downloading (I waited until my phone was done downloading before starting my iPad).
Thanks I figured as much. It's downloading again but at a snails pace even on a fast wifi.

But in Soviet Russia...?

Could anyone who has updated already confirm this please? :)

Finally downloaded to my Air2. My 6+ is still downloading. I wonder if the faster downloading in the Air2 is because of the 2Gb of RAM.

I still have a "phantom" backup even after deleting my phone. I have 20GB plan, 2.4GB used, but only showing 9.22GB available.
I talked to Applecare support, about the same problem. It's probably best to do a text based chat with them so that things are easier to see and you can upload a screen shot or such. They were able to clear the phantom backup out for me.

I think the most convincing thing was providing a screenshot that showed no backups, but still reported 1.9 gig being used for backups.

No, run the check for update and you will see there's a ~40MB update. You'll be in parity with everyone else at that point.
