The future of computing doesn't need a calculator because you can just ask Siri. 🤣

Am I the only one that uses PCalc (42) ? https://www.pcalc.com/mac/twenty.html

I've also got a few TI-83 /84 apps for college that I had to rely on. (Prof actually let us use them on the iPad).

I have never really relied on the default calculator app... Only in Windows.

took them over 6 days to populate it with information in 13.5
That's because they wait until macOS updates are released because they share a significant number of vulnerabilities. There's a new build of Catalina 10.15.5 that seems to be forthcoming as well, so the notes may be delayed a bit today too.

Pretty sure this deletes the jailbreak hole that the jailbreakers were exploiting...surprised Apple didn't highlight it in their release notes....
And why would Apple want to tell us something like that?

It was released a few days ago.

There are a billion calculator apps on the App Store. Admittedly that requires expending 8-12 calories to tap on a button to install the app, and consumes 5 seconds of your day that could be spent on more important things.

Apple doesn't scour forums in search of suggestions on what to fix. Try submitting your gripes directly to Apple.

By that logic maybe Apple shouldn't bother pre installing any apps then?

A calculator is a pretty standard app on any tablet. It makes no sense that apple doesn't have a standard pre installed calculator app.

I'm guessing it's a matter of messaging. The jailbreak exploits a security hole. Saying you closed a security hole sounds responsible. Saying you blocked a jailbreak sounds heavy handed. Same action, different spins...

Edit: Never mind, it looks like they did make the point in the release notes:

If that's what's fixed, it'll be in the security notes when those are posted, just like always.
Edit: The Unc0ver issue is what was fixed: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211214

Consider corporate IT people who read about unc0ver and recognize it as a problem to their operations, e.g. they got iPads accessing medical records. To reassure them, Apple needs to straight out say "unc0ver is fixed".

On the SE (2020) I am seeing a 3gb download. Isn’t that rather large for a “security” update?
Same here (SE 2020)... Was wondering whether that was due to the fact that I installed the developer versions before or not (but then the GM was about this big, too, wasn‘t it, so it should have had a release version already, not a debug build 🤔)

EDIT: and the release notes on my SE are the general release notes from iOS 13... Weird.

I believe those having huge download sizes are because you're still running a beta, even if it's a GM release. I've still got the dev beta profile installed so am not being offered this security update. Developers don't need security, it seems :)

I am seeing the large download size on a brand new SE with zero beta profiles ever installed.

But iPadOS still lacks a native calculator. The only computer that does?
Wow, this must be a high priority for you to jump in at the head of an unrelated thread about it! A calculator isn't going to show up in an x.x.1 update and I don't think many people would prefer that Apple divert development resources from security matters to calculator skins...

FWIW, you can just push the same keys in the global search field that you would in a calculator app and get an answer. I also prefer a calculator that looks like a calculator, and have a few apps for that purpose, but frankly they're a bit clumsy on a 12.9" iPad, so the search field is probably just as good for quick calculations.

I've used PCalc, mostly, but I'm now starting to get used to HP Prime which a software version of their physical calculator. It cost me $25, but I think I like it better than the physical calculator that I spent $150 for. I prefer the old HP 48 design, but my physical 48SX gave up the ghost. For iPhone I use the excellent m48+, which is an HP48 emulator, but they didn't handle the larger iPad screen well.

Same here. Installing right now.
