your attitude is hilarious, considering you just defended apple touting globally that the ipad is a laptop "replacement" that has not had real mouse support until...somewhere around a month ago (accessibility mouse support at ios 13 launch is not mouse support).

until it split off into iPadOS it existed with iOS which did have a calculator.

apple that claims making apps for any device and iOS version is super simple with their xcode tools, and can have apps properly sized because of their super simple xcode tools, could not do the same thing with their calculator app for iPad?

iPad that should replace laptops could not have a calculator, while their *mobile phones* can, their desktop OS can (and does. speaking of, how about that super special catalyst software for app parity between ipad and macos? no calculator that way?) and Windows can?

but you *really* want to snark someone about how they can go get one of "a billion" calculator apps from the app store that had about 1.8 million apps total as of this year? your hyperbole is so extreme it's childish.

nice try. where's the damn calculator app?
I do agree with you that it's one of those weird nagging things about iPad OS, but in the time it took you to write all of that out, I could have just looked for and downloaded a calculator app

This is the dumbest update I have seen, if all it does is patch the Jailbreak, then people who want to Jailbreak their devices will not update and those who wish NOT to jailbreak their devices will simply not. So why release an update that forces people to NOT Jailbreak their devices. unless there is a security issue..

There may be a security issue. Those who want to jailbreak will be on 13.5 for a while, unless a jailbreak is discovered for iOS 14.

What a naive post. Did it ever occur to you that the exploit used to get a Jail Break to work could be used for other not-so-nice purposes??? It is a security hole in the OS just like any other, and you are probably the guy that will crucify Apple for not taking action on any other kind of security issue, zero day or otherwise. 😒

But iPadOS still lacks a native calculator. The only computer that does?

fo simple arithmetic I use spotlight (built in)
for anything more complex I use the best tool for the job, and the App Store is full of options.

First of all, what's with just the calculator app. There are so many things more important than a calculator that are broken with iOS 12 and iPadOS 13 on the iPad that will take Apple ages to fix or not fix at all.
- the unusually annoying iPad rotation bug. (Especially visible with the 6x5 icons grid)
- no more organizing and watching movies offline. (Library view no longer available in TV app offline)
- no more reading books offline. (Books gets deleted randomly from Books app over and over again)

And Tim Cook's favorite iPad Pro is not a "laptop replacement". In fact it is something which is neither a laptop not a tablet. As far as a tablet is concerned, iPad, which was once the one and only usable tablet on the market, is slowly losing its functionalities.

Although keyboard support is useful, mouse support (!!!) on an iPad (!!!), a touch enabled device, is no more than a joke.

I am personally not in the opinion of a jailbreak and never jailbroken due to security concerns, but the messier the iOS gets with each update, more reasonable it starts to looks like.

Same here (SE 2020)... Was wondering whether that was due to the fact that I installed the developer versions before or not (but then the GM was about this big, too, wasn‘t it, so it should have had a release version already, not a debug build 🤔)

EDIT: and the release notes on my SE are the general release notes from iOS 13... Weird.
same here. Have you two already updated? I am waiting to check the update page another day to see if it goes back to 'normal'.

As I said, if its a security issue I am ok with it, but I have never seen an iphone/ipad being attacked because it had the jailbreak hole within its software. Plus it does not make sense that the many jailbreakers keep their iphones open for security attacks. Maybe its a very very minor security issue.

A jailbreak without security issue is not possible.
A security issue which allows for a (even more so untethered) jailbreak is not minor, but serious.

This particular vulnerability affected every one of Apple's platforms. It's not minor when that happens.

I wonder if there are any updates related to the COVID contact tracking?
I can see a possibility that the jailbreak might be able to covertly turn on and intercept the tracking...and be used for covert means. So fixing this security loophole helps with the overall security of the device.

Plain and simple, for the safety and viability of the track and trace applications this jailbreak had to be squashed. Not to mention the countless banking and other secure applications this could allow access. This was the main reason I moved from android to Apple , the security of the kernel.

So why do jailbreakeres intentionally keep their iOS vulnerable? I never heard them complain that they lost their data or their device has been hijacked or had ransomeware

Why?
I guess maybe because they value the possibility to tinker around more than the integrity of the device, maybe because they don't know that jailbreaks depend on security flaws.

Perhaps someone who does jailbreak can chime in.

unfounded at best, and the fun part is: if any major vulnerabilities post jb are found that apple would patch in an ios update, they just get made as a tweak

jb has been a thing since the very first iphone; it is where the actual innovation occurs, and then apple copies it. (the first app store was cydia.) there has never been a rampant issue with device security when it comes to jb.
