Hoping this fixes the storage issue on my iPad Pro. 256GB storage, about 180GB free yet I constantly receive “Storage Full” messages......fingers crossed 🤞

Well. That didn’t work 😔

I decided to test it by installing large apps (games), and before long, storage full messages started popping up, left right and centre. Balls.

Anyone any idea how to resolve this?

A few days ago I fully deleted the Files app and shortly thereafter reinstalled it from the App Store on my iPad Pro, I got more than 10GB back only doing this.

I make huge file transfers from my Mac to my iPad via AirDrop, and for some reason I don't get all the storage back when I delete the files from my iPad, the only way to get back all the storage used by the deleted files is deleting the Files app.

For those wondering if it's safe to delete the Files app and then reinstall it from the App Store: yes, when you reinstall the Files app back, all your iCloud and local files are there untouched!

I guess it's an AirDrop bug.

And...iOS 13.6 was download onto my work phone by itself just yesterday. 😓
It was never on a charger and Wi-Fi together.

Reminds me of my mom's iPhone; she's frequently fairly behind on iOS updates and iCloud backups because she tends to charge her phone in a dead spot for the house WiFi. It's a very specific spot in the kitchen where there's almost no signal for some reason, even though if you pick up the phone and move it five feet to the left the WiFi works great.

I told her she should find a new spot but she just doesn't care enough because "it charges fine". Completely non-techie people are fun that way. :)

One small hiccup for me on my SE 2020. After downloading just fine, the Install Now stayed greyed out. Waited about 5 minutes and nothing changed. Killed the Settings app and reopened. Same. Rebooted the iPhone and went back to Software Update. Install Now was then blue and I was able to initiate the install, which went fine.

How dare? Apple forces iPhone users to use their iPhones on the latest iOS... 😡

Wow here’s to hoping it actually fixes the green tint issue. Now if they can fix SMS message syncing issues with the Apple Watch, I will consider them redeemed.

Wow, 13.6 carried over the plagued 13.5.x green tint bug?

Is it finally fixed for people that were affected?

Never had this issue on my SE2020 but I heard it pertains more to X style/ 11/ Pro.

So again this silly process. Iphone will not update a measly 106 MB over 4G, but requires Wifi.

Since 4G is my one and only internet connection, with unlimited data, I disconnect hotspot over Wifi and connect over USB.

Updating via Finder, it does not download 106 MB, but the entire x GB iOS...

Why am I still bothering with this piece of crap?

EDIT: x = 4.1 GB. A win-win for me and the phone company…

As of iOS 13.6 there's an option to disable automatic download of iOS updates.

I caught a couple of apps running in the background even though they were told not to, and having the big 'don't run apps in the background' switch turned off. It showed up in the settings battery information. I got into the habit of just double-clicking and killing them after use. That fixed that problem. They were using Bluetooth to talk to temperature sensors. That kind of thing. They've been updated since then, but now I'm in the habit of just killing them. Still no problem. :)
Background app refresh is basically just one functionality of apps being able to do something in the background. There is no user controllable setting that disables all background functionality overall, short of basically just not using an app or closing it after use (as you appear to be doing).

Have you tried restoring the phone as new, and then reinstalling the apps and data from a backup? Back before Apple eliminated the app management function from iTunes (which allowed users to sideload the apps from a local backup), I used to periodically do that just to eliminate the cruft that built up from botched downloads, poorly written apps that would build up huge caches, and storage that didn't fully release after large data transfers.

iOS has gotten better at purging garbage data (and all app restorations now need to go through the app store, so restoring from backup now takes longer and counts against my data cap), so I don't do full restorations from backups anymore. But, if you don't have any apps that are no longer available from the app store that you would like to keep, then the restore as new and reinstall from backup option could work. Generally, I prefer to work from an encrypted local backup (encryption preserves your text messages, health data, and saved passwords), otherwise restoring from an iCloud backup might leave some data out.

If you intend to stick with iOS 13.6.1 for a while (and not jump into iOS 14 right away), then the full iOS download from the Finder is the way to go. Instead replacing just the delta files, the full download will replace the entire operating system. Apple's delta downloads don't always replace all the correct files, and random glitches have always seemed more common with the incremental updates than the full iOS downloads using Finder/iTunes.

I suspect that iOS 13.6.1 will be the EOL version of iOS 13 (because all devices that support iOS 13 will also support iOS 14, Apple does not have any reason to continue issuing updates for iOS 13 like they did with iOS 12). So, for anyone who intends to wait a while before upgrading to iOS 14, doing the full installation will give you the most stability in the meantime.

If your phone is working fine and you don't encounter any bugs that the update is supposed to fix, then why not skip the update? Sounds like these updates cause more grief than they're worth.

No, iOS 13.6.2 (the last update for iOS 13) will be released at the end of August or in the beginning of September.

Then iOS 14 will be coming...

That would be very unusual if Apple issued two point updates this close to a new iOS release. Only with iOS 9 did Apple issue two updates in August.

In fact, it's already unusual for Apple to issue the EOL release of any iOS version this late in the product cycle. Only 3 prior versions of iOS had their final updates as late as August before the successor version came out. I fully expect that iOS 13.6.1 will be the final iOS 13 release, unless a glaring bug or security breach crops up in the next couple of weeks.

Except for iOS 12, any updates issued after the release of a new version will typically address very specific bugs that only affect certain devices. iOS 12 has had 7 security updates issued since the release of iOS 13, but only for A7 and A8 devices that cannot run iOS 13.

Here's Apple's history with EOL updates to iOS.

iPhone OS 1 - 1.1.4 released 2/26/08 (1.1.5 released 7/15/08 for iPod touch only)
iPhone OS 2 - 2.2.1 released 1/27/09
iPhone OS 3 - 3.1.3 released 2/2/10 (3.2.2 released 8/11/10 for iPad only)
iOS 4 - 4.3.5 released 7/25/11 (4.2.10 released 7/25/11 for CDMA phones only)
iOS 5 - 5.1.1 released 5/7/12
iOS 6 - 6.1.3 released 3/19/13 (6.1.4 released 5/9/13 for iPhone 5 only; 6.1.5 released 11/14/13 for iPod touch 4G only; 6.1.6 released 2/21/14 for iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 4G only)
iOS 7 - 7.1.2 released 6/30/14
iOS 8 - 8.4.1 released 8/13/15 (8.4.4 released 3/24/20 for Apple TV 3G only)
iOS 9 - 9.3.5 released 8/25/16 (9.3.6 released 7/22/19 for iPhone 4s and cellular iPads only)
iOS 10 - 10.3.3 relased 7/22/19 (10.3.4 released 7/22/19 for iPhone 5 and cellular iPad 4G only)
iOS 11 - 11.4.1 released 7/9/18
iOS 12 - 12.4.1 released 8/26/19 (12.4.8 released 7/15/20 for A7 and most A8-powered devices only)

Were these fixes in the most recent iOS 14 beta? I seem to have gained space on my retired but tester 6s.

Ah ha. I always thought “background app refresh” was a suspicious name. Good to know. Thanks!

Another long wait to see if battery is going to be affected or not
How trust is gone down with Apple 😳
Slowly chipped away.
But Apple still has ample supply of trust provided by their hardcore fans.

I have a crazy idea: Does apple secretly keep a storage cap in a percentage based on categories? I doubt it because I can fill my iPhone 256GB with pretty much only music and next to no apps. I dont know what’s going on there.
