It’s no longer possible to downgrade to 18.Downgrade to 18.5. I am still using that OS on my m1 iPad Pro. Or is there something in o26 that your truly need?![]()
I wasn’t aware. I will stick will os18.7 u til multi tasking and tinting is fully resolved on os26. In the mean time there aren’t any new feature that I desperately need. It’s no longer possible to downgrade to 18.
The iPad 32 GB I just updated to 26.1 (from 16.0.1 got through it with connecting to Mac mini via usb cable and updating through mac's finder. It's either that or temporarily dump some apps and maybe some large mail attachments?I have a 32 GB iPad 8. It wouldn't install iOS 26 due to insufficient space available. I was advised to back up, do a factory reset, and then I would be allowed to install iOS 26. It worked!
Now that the 26.1 update has been released, I again get the same error of insufficient space available. Apple has effectively bricked my "supported" iPad by making me jump through ridiculous hoops to install security updates.
How so?I thought the old system was terrible fwiw. Huge improvement in 26.
Choices for app sizing was limited to either full screen (great for some apps - terrible for most 'secondary' apps) or split-screen where two apps had a fixed height space in which to live. A 50/50 split typically left the 'primary app' too small and the 'secondary app' too large, and many secondary apps did not really scale in a useful way below 50% width. How so?
How would he do that?Downgrade to 18.5. I am still using that OS on my m1 iPad Pro. Or is there something in o26 that your truly need?![]()
True in a way, but i guess people mean splitview in the whole gestures/ window behavior,Why is everyone spreading false information constantly. Split View IS NOT GONE. It just requires a few extra taps to get there. Annoying? Yes. But it's still very much possible to have two apps side-by-side. Stop spreading false info!
I’m sure catering to folks that didn’t want interactions they didn’t expect was part of the reason for the changing. Rethinking it so that multitasking become an intentional act every time it’s invoked takes more steps, but improves the single window experience.Guess I’ll be updating to iPadOS 26 in about a week. Wonder how I’ll feel about, or even use, multitasking. Sure wish the selectable Slide Over had always been the case. I detest Slide Over and accidentally triggering it on occasion is why multitasking has been turned off for the vast majority of its existence on my iPads.
I have a game that I sometimes like to have up while I’m surfing and it naturally wants to be slightly wider than half screen. No problem, it gets all the space it wants, and the other app takes up the rest of the space. So much more flexible.Choices for app sizing was limited to either full screen (great for some apps - terrible for most 'secondary' apps) or split-screen where two apps had a fixed height space in which to live. A 50/50 split typically left the 'primary app' too small and the 'secondary app' too large, and many secondary apps did not really scale in a useful way below 50% width.
Slide-over suffered from the same problem. Apps had to occupy a fixed space and size which many apps simply were not well suited for.
Now, secondary apps can be sized and placed appropriate to their needs. Split-screen works in portrait orientation as well as landscape. Even when using a single app, it can be sized appropriate to its need - not simply some selection (of mostly bad) fixed sizes.
How would people evoke slideover unintentionally? I would think a switch to turn it off would be enough though.I’m sure catering to folks that didn’t want interactions they didn’t expect was part of the reason for the changing. The OP mentions they detested accidentally triggering it. I don’t know how they did, but from what I’ve read (haven’t used Slide Over/Split View since Stage Manager became available), it’s not invoked in the same way which should mean that particular way of accidentally triggering it shouldn’t be possible anymore. How would people evoke slideover unintentionally? I’m glad you like it.Choices for app sizing was limited to either full screen (great for some apps - terrible for most 'secondary' apps) or split-screen where two apps had a fixed height space in which to live. I’m hopeful in the 26.2 betas they will splitview. 26.1 was was a big bug fix update plus slideover which is easier to adapt to OS 26 than split view. If it doesn’t come in later betas then I will be surprised since the backlash of splitview is so big.Bring back Split View when? Yes I know you can do it with windowed mode but its a lot more faffing around compared to what Split View used to be
Or tap “Look Up”, flick to the bottom of that list, and tap “Search Web”. Much larger targets than the “>”.
Man I just tried a combination of Windows and Android trying to get out of the Apple chains. Between family stuck on iOS (FaceTime), app incompatibility, and drive format incompatibility, I can say it’s hard to escape the ecosystem.I'm considering getting a tablet that can run a linux GNOME environment and can connect with my stuff and just building up my home server to handle the heavier stuff instead of relying on an apple ecosystem that keeps going in a worse direction. I can stream games off that if I need to and the changes would be under MY control, not their dumb business majors.
