Did anyone talk about or notice: After a phone call is placed and you want speakerphone, it now just goes to speakerphone; instead of giving you the option to select speakerphone, your iPad, and 2 other Apple TV’s also connected to your home network?

If Apple wanted to track you, why would they announce a big api and explain all the details of how it doesn’t use location and is anonymous? Seems needlessly complicated.

Those reading this thread would do well to go past the harmless sounding announcement page (co-branded with Google) and read Apple's PDF FAQ about contact tracing before updating. This is not a passive API. The passive API talk is just baiting the hook for the "second phase":

In the second phase, available in the coming months, this capability will be introduced at the operating system level to help ensure broad adoption, which is vital to the success of contact tracing. After the operating system update is installed and the user has opted in, the system will send out and listen for the Bluetooth beacons as in the first phase, but without requiring an app to be installed.

Apple and the other US tech giants (GAFAM) are prepared to announce in advance that they will track us against our will at our own expense and know that we will comply. At least know what you are getting into and don't have any illusions about it. Anyone who installs iOS 13.5 will be tracked whether they like it or not.

We will see. Obviously a crystal ball or ouji board is not available to us (at least me). And if this tracking happens against our will and perfectly legal and we have no choice, might as well enjoy the ride.

That's a ride I don't want to be on. A smartphone just isn't that important to me. Bad enough it quietly started recording sound levels without my consent AND stored it in iCloud, even though I explicitly disabled all Health tracking.

On another note, has anyone verified whether or not iPadOS got the Contact API?
If it is as "they" say it is. Not sure what choice you and me have.

Not sure what you are referring to about "quietly started recording sound levels without my consent". What ever that is I'm sure implicitly you did give your consent.

Depends on who "they" are. If that means Apple, then I quit carrying an Apple device with me. If that means the government, then we lobby.

This is the headphone audio level feature in Health. I updated to 13.4.1, but it provided no setup screen about this feature after the update, and I'm very careful to not click through screens. Defaulted to Enabled.
I don't know who "they" are. We're discussing hypotheticals because this hasn't come to pass.

Oh. I don't know. I have health disabled for icloud backup. I remember configuring that setting a while ago. Also disabled hearing volume measurement a while ago. I usually click through to (most) everything to see the settings and update if needed.
