One of the best things about iOS is that a billion devices could potentially update overnight.

I'm wondering just how many Android devices will benefit the COVID-19 features even in a month or two from now. My guess is less than 5%. Which is sad even for us iOS users considering the cross-platform random ID exchange.

Although, really, it becomes more useful as there are fewer cases, as that’s when it’s most critical to identify contacts for rare infections, to prevent new outbreaks.
You're right - useful when there are fewer case, but on the front end. During the decline, people aren't going to care enough to embrace this.

I'll be fine with this API...as long as it is removed by Apple when the situation deems it no longer necessary. Allowing it in the first place is a slippery slope. Think of how many governments would love to see it "repurposed" once this situation settles. My governor is probably drooling thinking of the possibilities. There's rumors that he wants his emergency powers to include criminal charges for anyone who badmouths him on social media. (I have my doubts about that being true...but at the same time, he's on quite the power trip right now and it sure sounds like something he'd say)! Keeping that in mind...I'm sure he'd love to see this API be "repurposed" for quite a few things other than COVID.

You can literally turn it off yourself at any time. Screenshots in the article clearly show it.

you really had to make sure to copy this into a second thread, just in case people didnt pay attention in the other one ;)
what? twice? i posted it once.

The USA is still getting 20,000 new infections per day... it hasn’t slowed at all there, so hardly too late to be useful for them.

Very good point. Also, as places start to re-open, the value of contact tracing goes up.

Google's is not coming in an Android OS update, it's coming as part of a Google Play Services update.

Does anyone know how to permenantly shut off iOS updates and notifications of updates? There was a toggle in settings to do this in iOS 12. The toggle was removed in iOS 13.

So many paranoid people who have no clue how the technology works.
Sadly our deaths are going to continue to pile up until we have a vaccine :(
I think they're more likely to pile up until the initial waves are over, then they will decline. Herd immunity is going to do more to prevent this in 2020 than a vaccine which doesn't exist yet. There's only so much we can control here.
