I'd call that BROKE, personally.
Broke for you, 'soon-to-be-fixed,' for others.

Add to that the UGLY black&white interface changes, the elmination of helpful speaker information in the output speaker button (replaces the name of the speakers selected with a TINY little icon sitting dead next to the genius icon with virtually no space in-between, making you click on it...or at least you hope you clicked on it and no the tiny genius button... in order to see what's currently selected. I have 5 rooms and growing for audio. I don't need those changes.

More streamlined, and more professional looking, IMO. To each his/her own.

If you don't like it, it's very easy to revert back to the previous UI - you do have a choice.

Then there's the fact they dumped Tiger (I was sharing one database between Leopard and Tiger on my PowerMac; that is no longer possible once I upgrade Leopard's iTunes) and for what? Ping was too hard for Tiger to support? That's the major version that dumps Tiger? WTF?
iTunes 9 is still supported, and runs well on Tiger, as it will likely function optimally for the next 10 years.

BTW, I also have Tiger running on one of my older G4 towers, and iTunes 9 runs just fine.

I won't upgrade iTunes until I HAVE to at this point (i.e. buy a device that requires the newer version).
No one's stopping you from continuing to use iTunes 9, until then.

Here's a thought. Maybe they should do the black and white icons if you choose Graphite as your Appearance theme for the OS. If you use the default theme, they should be in color. (If someone already stated this, my apologies). (Submitting this to Apple... It won't hurt...)

I didn't know Tiger wasn't going to be able to share... I do have an old G4 that was hooked up to our stereo for staring the library. I haven't used it in awhile, because I just decided hooking up my iPod was easier. :D But that's still sad. I think I *could* upgrade it to Leopard, but I probably never will. Oh well, I guess.

No, it's not to each their own because you have no OPTION to keep the old interface. And just turning icons to black & white doesn't automatically make them "more professional" looking, IMO. That's like saying the original Mac had a more professional look to it than OS8 or OS9 or OSX for that matter. I can see in color so I like color, judiciously used. I've said in other threads I'd be THRILLED if Apple would give users a choice about the GUI and look of both OSX and programs running in it. Some people liked Aqua better. Some will not like the 10.7 look at all (even darker and grayer by the looks of it and potentially having vertical window buttons on everything (even if it doesn't make sense for the space used?). Steve doesn't like CHOICE and he certainly doesn't like theming. OS9 was starting to add theming options and Steve took care of that quick with OSX. Like it or leave it. I'm honestly surprised he doesn't force a background picture one everyone just so he can have a consistent BORG look, except for older machines (as in over one year old). They'll just look shameful as everyone would know they don't have this year's machine because it says Mac 2010 on the background screen in bold letters. Oh, your Mac is 3 years old! Oooh! Yuk!! You aren't a real Macker! Your Mac is like an old pickup truck! Steve said so!

I don't have a choice if I want to buy a newer iPod Touch (which I do) as iTunes 9 won't support it. The same goes for the new ATV, which will require iTunes 10.

iTunes 9 is still supported, and runs well on Tiger, as it will likely function optimally for the next 10 years.

I don't know how you can say that with a straight face knowing that one of the major purposes of most iTunes revisions is to support newer hardware devices (Necessary at least in part because they do not want just any device to sync with iTunes as the fiasco with Palm has shown).

No one's stopping you from continuing to use iTunes 9, until then.

Uh huh. I just shouldn't buy any newer iTunes compatible devices ever again in the future and I can continue to use iTunes 9 just fine. Got-ya. ;)

Yes you do.

Just open Terminal, and paste this command:

defaults write com.apple.iTunes full-window -1

The iTunes 9 interface will be restored.

Yes you do, the solution is simple.

Were we not discussing running iTunes on a PowerMac?

Did Apple magically disable Powermacs running Tiger, from running iTunes 9?

Change the context of the discussion, much?

Why not run iTunes 10 using the iTunes 9 interface, then?

Tough concept to grasp?

Ok, I tried it on my MBP which I put iTunes 10 on to try it out before doing anything with my PowerMac server. That restored the side-by-side window buttons instead of the traffic light ones, but I still have black & white icons and all the other visual changes from iTunes 10. That's nice there's a way to restore the window buttons (although how the average user is supposed to know about that "option" I'm not quite sure; you act like it's common knowledge), but I'd hardly call that one change a return to the iTunes 9 interface overall.

Did you miss the part where I indicated iTunes 9 will not allow you to run the latest iOS devices??? In other words, if you're running Tiger and want newer iOS devices, you can either upgrade to Leopard (if possible) and get iTunes 10 or you can do without. This idea that iTunes 9 will work forever on older Macs completely ignores the idea that iTunes is not just for playing music, but is the control center for iOS devices like the iPhone and the latest generation iPod Touch.

Tough concept to grasp?

Apparently it is.

I just found a new flaw/bug in iTunes 10 beyond the tendency to crash here when playing movies. I have iTunes set to sync only the photos in indicated folders to my Apple TV units and with iTunes 10 it now syncs ALL OF THEM regardless of the fact that numerous folders are not checked. Just lovely this update is.

Finally caved and downloaded it. I personally couldn't care less about the icon change...don't mind it at all. Same goes for the traffic lights.

That said, the sidebar is now an abomination, i sure as hell hope they don't bring this design decision to Finder in 10.7. Also the iPhone capacity graph has been beaten with an ugly stick. I mean what the hell is this...it looks like a UI from some crappy Linux distro or Windows XP. Talk about a design/usability disaster.

How is the capacity bar a usability disaster? It's basically the same as the old one, but more quickly.

"design/usability"

"Also the iPhone capacity graph has been beaten with an ugly stick"

Its ugly.

The sidebar is the one that is a usability disaster. Recognition by colour is far easier than by tiny shapes that essentially look alike.

You got my vote. I like iTunes 9 better visually AND it was infinitely more stable here (I average one crash a day on my PPC based server with iTunes 10 while iTunes 9 was rock solid here).
