Mac spec requirements

Anyone else notice the Mac spec requirements?!

Does this mean we should expect a significant bump in future MB & MBP 13" lineup in terms of cpu?

"2.0Ghz Intel C2D processor" ...

My Al_uMB is just 2.4Ghz ... and with this iTunes still only a 32-bit app with Single-thread its going to be a resources hog when 10.4 debuts.

would be great if Apple renamed iTunes to iPlay. this would match the new Air Play.

i dunno if it'd be "great" (it'd be hard to get used to, personally).

but it would stand to reason...

i mean, if AirTunes --> AirPlay, then iTunes --> iPlay. what other logic is there?

Haven't seen it noted any where but the Apple features page for the new AirPlay talks about new accessories from 3rd Parties having AirTunes built in like iPod speaker docks and hi fi head units. Kind of cool that you won't have to have your phone on the dock to use the spreakers.

Well the other way to look at it iTunes is no longer just tunes but has expanded to include movies, books, games, apps for all sorts of things. In other words all things that inspire us let us relax, try ideas, let our imaginations run amuck . All our muses in other words.

so they should call it iMuse.

For the social implications of this check out the Godfather toll booth scene. :apple::p

I thought the 2.0GHz CPU was just required for playing back HD video and not the general running of iTunes?

Ugh. I'm going to be sick.

I just noticed an unwanted side effect of iTunes 10.

It apparently, for reasons totally unknown, DELETED applications off both my phone AND my iTunes backup and some of them were paid for.

I backed up my entire itunes app+directory prior to updating but the problem appears to extend to the backup somehow.

Nearest I can figure I've lost $37 in applications.

I've reported it to Apple because I'm not keen on repurchasing these apps although I use them all of the time.

For real. People wanting to remove Ping? Just don't click it. You don't like the new icon or the title bar buttons, deal with it. It's not the end of the world lol. I haven't clicked one of those buttons in ages, its all keyboard for me. iTunes opens faster, scrolls faster so I am happy with it. Who cares about the looks, you should care about the functionality.

Does it really matter? Really???

I don't even use those buttons but for what it's worth (which is nothing most of the time on these forums) I actually quite like them and think they should be like that on Safari and other applications.

And the people moaning about not being able to remove "Ping" from the sidebar. Are you ********** kidding me?!
I was expecting a sidebar or something to pop up but it's just a word. Oh No!
You can barely even notice it when you're using iTunes as normal.

You should all find something more important to whine about.

The "Rentals" icon glows red if a rental has less than 24 hours left to watch:

You only buy Apps once. If you need to redownload them, Apple lets you do it for free.

iTunes 10 CD Read Problems

Has anyone noticed problems with iTunes version 10 recognizing audio CDs?

My wife and I updated to version 10 iTunes and just discovered that iTunes will not recognize CDs loaded into the CD drive on both her MacBook and my MacBook Pro. When an audio CD is inserted into iTunes 10 the CD spins up in the drive, and then the CD track list flashes on and off in iTunes, eventually disappearing, and the audio CD is not available in the Device List. Or the track list appears for a 10 seconds or so, along with a spinning beach ball cursor, and then disappears, with no audio CD in the Device List.

These are perfectly fine CDs that play in our car CD player. And our MacBook and MacBook Pro eagerly recognized the same CDs inserted just a week ago. The only common thread is that we updated to iTunes 10. :-( My bad! )-:

iTunes 10 CD Read Problems

Just got off the phone with Apple Support and they confirmed that this is an issue with iTunes 10. The Apple rep said that Apple was working on an update, but it would be a couple weeks.

But there is a work around. Turn off "Automatically retrieve CD track names from internet" in the General iTunes Preferences tab. You'll have to manually enter the album and track data, but this is not a big deal for my wife's audiobooks, because iTunes doesn't get audiobook track data from the internet, anyway.

I haven't experienced the problem - hopefully the fix gets issued soon.

They eliminated the image of the CD from the Itunes icon - why are you surprised that they also eliminated the ability to rip CDs?

You're claiming that Apple has eliminated the ability to rip CDs?

Make disingenuous statements much?

It won't recognize them, but will still rip them. My bad.

Kool-Aid overdose.

Yet it will recognize them, and will rip them - simply unchecking the box "Automatically retrieve CD track names from internet" solves the problem for those having problems, until a fix is issued.

This hardly equates to an intentional elimination of the ability to rip CDs.

Kool-Aid overdose, huh?

Keep those insults rolling in. ;)

Yeah, it's great having to type in all the track names of your ripped CDs one-by-one for potentially hundreds of CDs.

I'd call that BROKE, personally. You can call it whatever nonsense you want. Add to that the UGLY black&white interface changes, the elmination of helpful speaker information in the output speaker button (replaces the name of the speakers selected with a TINY little icon sitting dead next to the genius icon with virtually no space in-between, making you click on it...or at least you hope you clicked on it and no the tiny genius button... in order to see what's currently selected. I have 5 rooms and growing for audio. I don't need those changes.

Then there's the fact they dumped Tiger (I was sharing one database between Leopard and Tiger on my PowerMac; that is no longer possible once I upgrade Leopard's iTunes) and for what? Ping was too hard for Tiger to support? That's the major version that dumps Tiger? WTF? Steve is beyond contempt that this point, IMO. He's showing Apple is only concerned with GREED at this point than keeping existing customers happy. Support in the operating system seems to be dropping from an average of 6 years to about 2.5 years at the current rate (even less for certain GPU support features like hardware acceleration for H264). Yet he fully supports Windows XP from almost a decade ago, yet doesn't support an APPLE brand OS that is half that age!

I won't upgrade iTunes until I HAVE to at this point (i.e. buy a device that requires the newer version). iTunes is going backwards in functionality and quality.
