Apple Releases iTunes 12.1.2 With Improved Support for New Photos App

Mine has gone off without a hitch. Launches fast and the update fixed a blinking issue in the artwork that popped up with the recent Yosemite update.

I just created a Playlist and it is not showing up in any of my other devices. Any clues? I made sure iTunes match is on and that playlist doesn't have any non-compliant content.

Second test: create a playlist. Add a couple of song and see it just dissappear. Very weird.

But if I add one song to any of the other Playlist those are fine.

I happen to like and miss the sidebar feature. Why must they persist in the "guess where the feature you want is today" method of changing things? Can't have menubars or sidebars with the things you use like devices or playlists... No, it has to all be hidden under new-and-unlabeled-buttons where you have to "hover" over everything to discover what it has become today... Until they move it again!

I thought only The Borg (Microsquash) pulled crap like that with the constant updates to MS Office and their "ribbon" instead of the functional toolbars.

Why do they persist in making the programs bigger and bigger, yet have even less user functionality?

Click 'playlists' and the sidebar is there as before. The minute Apple ditch the sidebar entirely, and I'm done with itunes, and I've invested a lot of time in this app believe me...

Nope - one computer updated - can't open

Just for clarification - Is there anybody here, who have a successful install of the new iTunes release where it can be opened afterwards?

Interesting that bother computers have the same account, same network, but the one I updated to 12.1.2 can't seem to verify the server. would love to find a fix.

I've also tried reinstalling from the standalone installer and it still does not work. Guess we will have to wait for Apple to fix it. I'm so happy that I am not ultra dependent on iTunes.
- just wanted to download a song on my computer where I updated Mav and iTunes 12.1.2 - now can't even get into the store. Glad I have another computer (not updated, yet) - it works fine.

For machines stuck at OS/X 10.7 Lion

Apple also released iTunes 12.1.2.27 for those of us with machines stuck at OS/X 10.7 Lion. It works, at least for the parts I've checked like plain music playing and iGadget synchronization.

It's been a while since Apple provided anything for Lion machines like my 2006 Mac Pro. I can see why they've distributed iTunes for Lion; the iTunes Store is a big money maker.

Unfortunately, Apple has not provided some updates for Lion which are needed more than iTunes , such as security fixes which have been sent out for newer machines. As a developer, what I'd really like to see for Lion is an update to Xcode. It will never come.

iTunes 12.1.2 still cannot find the new photo app so this statement of "syncing photos from iOS devices to the new Photos app for Mac" is not true.

Installed it last night, been on it all afternoon. No problems here on my Windows 7 laptop. The get info box is massively improved, it was a sluggish mess before.

Before I update my iPhoto Library to Photos does iTunes Home Sharing work with Photos allowing me to select a Photos Library as a screensaver for the :apple:TV?

Anyone else think that Apple's software quality control has gone to hell in the last couple of years?

Anyway, thanks for this tip, it works now.

To be blunt, yes. I've been using macs for nearly 20 years, and 90% of the hassle I've had with them has occurred in the last few years.

Stuck on Mavericks

Not sure if I'm missing something, but it looks like the MR article got it backwards. iTunes still only syncs photos one-way to your iOS device; not the other way around.

I'm stuck back on 10.9 (still on iPhoto). Does this update remove syncing of photos BACK TO iDevices for people stuck in 10.9 and iPhoto?

To set up iTunes to work 99% as classic iTunes (pre 11):

- From the search drop down, deselect Search Entire Library
- In the sort drop down (just below), select Songs, optionally deselect Show Artwork.
- Always use the Playlist tab and ignore the others.

RIP iTunes DJ neé Party Shuffle.

I think upNext is a superb replacement for it and has improved my use of the app 100%
