iTunes

I really wish that Apple would scrap the current iTunes player and start over. Strip the stores from it, strip the apps from it, and make it a music player like on iOS. Go ahead and call the stores iTunes, and rename the music player. iTunes used to be one of my favorite applications, today I groan if I accidentally open it. The latest version is easily the worst version of iTunes ever.

Wonder if they fixed the issue with airplay dropping all the time. For whatever reason, it's on when playing iTunes to an airport express. My iPad and phone will not drop but iTunes on my iMac will... all the time.

Staying on iTunes 11.4 (and iOS8) for the next two years or more for long term Mac backwards compatibility and without having to use Windows XP for 12.

Right there with you...have the 11.4 install file safely put aside...although the iPhone 6s will come out and force people to upgrade their iTunes...enjoy it while we have it.

Itunes 12

Itunes 12 a triumph of "style" over substance. It's virtually unusable. Apple should simply open source the app and get out of the way.

I care a lot more about the alleged improvement in syncing performance than I do about the widget!

(i really don't know any OS X users that regularly use their notification center)

Yes!!! This. I haven't synced since maybe October. Been using Spotify exclusively because of syncing issues. I think I may give it go tonight. Fingers crossed.

I guess not many people care about this but "Up Next" still does not work properly.

"Add To Up Next" should add to the end of the queue, "Play Next" should add to the top.

ATUN sometimes adds to the end, sometimes to the top. Have never been able to figure out the exact circumstances but it definitely does not always work properly. Possibly something to do with adding an allbum or tracks versus adding a playlist.

Why do people list the download size for app updates/OS X updates etc? We are not on dial-up, so I don't care of its 10MB, 500MB or 1GB.

The file size isn't an indication of anything relevant. If you want relevant, see change logs.

The file size indicates more useless features that distract from it being a music player.

Absolutely 100% agree, iTunes is awful! So bad I don't even use it.

Each time a major new release comes out I'll fire up the app, realise it's still a sack of steaming manure and relegate it out of sight.

I also made a replacement icon some time ago that fits Yosemite pretty well, in my opinion. Unfortunately my 'skills' weren't nearly advanced enough to prevent the icon from looking rather crummy at large sizes. I still like this icon conceptually and would actually love it if someone would have another go at it... http://cl.ly/0N031l3i0S1e... anyone?

Yeah, it definitely needs work for sure. I'm also not feeling that color whatsoever.

This is how I would prefer it to look like, of course some might disagree considering the album artwork takes up a lot of space with smaller screens. But I like to have the volume controls & the scrubbing feature close to me at all times and I am actually one of those who uses the new notification center a lot more than I did back on Mavericks.

If anyone is wondering what type of widget that is, it's called MiniPlay on the MAS (Free!). It also comes with a window player to have on the desktop that really looks like something Apple could have made. AND it works with Spotify and is one of the most stable widget music players. (and I have tried alot of them.)

Of course I'm always listening to music so these things matter to me.

Does anyone else remember iSync? Make iTunes just for music, add a videos app just for videos, make the App Store be for both Mac & iOS apps, and make iSync do the syncing of everything. Too many features spoil the broth!

Anyone also remember SoundJam MP? I miss being able to use different skins. Also remember back in the Mac OS 8.5 (?) days where Mac OS actually had a "skin" preference in one of the Control Panels? Not as good as Kaleidoscope.

That is actually a very good idea. I liked iTunes when Apple first released it. Things were so much simpler back in the day.

You're brinigng back some great memories. I loved Soundjam. Sadly I hated iSync. Nothing but a piece of unusable garbage. It never worked well nor was it compatible enough.

I've always liked iTunes 12. And I usually hate iTunes UI changes.

I did turn the sidebar back on of course--easily done!

Some things are now at the top that weren't--but I find them less confusing there than the old way. And I like that you can customize what icons are shown at top on the left.

iTunes 12 has never given me any trouble, which is more than I can say for itunes, say, 6 through 11!

I 100% agree and sounds just like my thoughts exactly. I never could find crap in ver 11 without hunting for it EVERY time. 12 seems easier to navigate and was easier to figure out in a short amount of time. If a user never used previous versions that learning curve would be even less.

How does iOS's music player "suck" at playing music?

Since iOS 7, it has been very buggy. I've submitted 4 or 5 bug reports on the Music app alone.

Also, since iOS 7 you can no longer browse by genre, then by album. Since that's how I typically navigate my library, I find it less usable than earlier versions.

Podcasts are actually really popular, but most people use 3rd party apps on their iPhones or what not :p

I know. I was just being snarky. :)

Syncing fixes?

I am hoping this fixes the continual "Trust this computer" bug and the fact that iPhones and iPads do not show up as connected devices in iTunes, so don't sync at all. Only works properly for about a day after a complete restart.

Please let this be fixed!

Home Sharing!

Oh wow!

Home sharing actually kind of works now too! Just had to log out and log back into home sharing on each device. I suppose this resets it.

Been fighting trying to get this to work for years!

Agreed.
It's so bad that I know in my case it's impacting how much I buy from the iTunes Store. I used to get music, rent movies, and buy TV shows fairly often but I almost never do that any more. I'd rather go to another source just because fighting with iTunes is so miserable.

Time to scrap iTunes and start over.
