Is the general suckiness of iTunes 12 fixed? I've always been a fan of iTunes. Until v12. It just blows. Especially when it comes to syncing with iOS devices.

Is the cover art fixed in Apple Remote?

Doesn't look like it. Cover art does appear in all sub-menus but the big main cover display at "now playing" remains empty.

One might hope they'd have an update for Apple Remote in the pipeline as well, but it hasn't shown up yet.

Is the sync bug where iTunes wipes previously synced music on a 128GB iP6 fixed? Haven't synced my phone with my MBP/Yosemite since the 8.0.2 downgrade - having to set the phone up from new each time in order to add a single ripped album to my phone has been sufficiently painful that I've no bothered doing it. If the album exists in Spotify, it's been easier to create an offline playlist using that.

As someone who owns every Apple product (iPhone 6 128, iPad Air 128, Maxed out 2012 Macbook Pro, and 2 Apple TVs), I'm really getting to the end of my rope with this company. I spent the last three months complaining about not being able to Sync my iPhone 6 on any consistent basis only be told there's no reported issues so it's just me. Now lookie here there's "fix."

iTunes has been god awful since iTunes 12, iOS8 "broke" my iPad Air (I now have to reboot it at least 3 times a day just to get it to connect to the internet), Yosemite has turned my MBP into a hot mess, and it just seems like this company is incapable of releasing quality software anymore. Problem is, I hate Android and I don't like Windows 8 nor MS's push towards trying to force people into their subscription garbage with Office..... Computing these days is truly awful. I want off the grid!

Have you discussed these things with Apple? It sounds like you have a faulty device. iOS 8 and Yosemite are rock solid on all devices here at home and most "normal" users do not report your kind of problems. So it seems that you have some isolated problems that can be fixed (Apple's customer care is first rate), so before losing all faith in the company I would try to talk with them first. Go visit an Apple Store.

wow, that’s rather nice – thanks a lot! :)

No problem haha.

Try again.....centering the darn music notes might take you a longer way on your icon design career......

Good thing that’s not my career then! And it was centered, just not visually. Happy now?

Apart from the AAC streaming distortions I've had no problems with iTunes 12, neither in syncing my iPad 3, iPhone 4S and iPhone 6 (the former via WiFi, the latter two via USB, all on the latest iOS version) nor in general use. It's my primary music player on the Mac and works well at that.

Bonus tip: There is a trick for getting the separate cover art window back in iTunes 12 (particularly nice when it's playing on a secondary monitor): Run a music playlist in the mini player while having the main window open and then drag a music video from the main window into the playlist in the mini player.

iTunes will play the video and when proceeding to the next track the former video window will switch to cover art and stay that way until you explicitly close it. It's still resizable as it was when it was an "official" window with an entry in the Window menu and much nicer than the tiny cover display in the mini player if you've got good-quality covers in your library.

Well, that's kind of the crux of the matter... as you know, the answer is no. So we need iTunes. The problem is that iTunes sucks at being a music player just as the Music app on the iPhone sucks at playing music. We're kind of stuck.

I disagree - I find that iTunes is a great music player. (The only issue I have is that I wish iTunes for OS X would 'keep up' in the library view with what's playing, opening the album automatically as each track changes. I have to press Command + L) I'd be interested to understand what you find it doesn't do well for you (OS X and iOS); please could you elaborate?

I also made a replacement icon some time ago that fits Yosemite pretty well, in my opinion. Unfortunately my 'skills' weren't nearly advanced enough to prevent the icon from looking rather crummy at large sizes. I still like this icon conceptually and would actually love it if someone would have another go at it... http://cl.ly/0N031l3i0S1e... anyone?

That one looks great. I really like the bluish white 'frosty' effect going on in the background. Very cool!

Here's the one I did - mine wasn't exactly a complicated effort, as I just replaced the salmon gradient with a blue one:

Agreed. There is no program better at organizing a music library than iTunes, especially when dealing with thousands of songs.

People still use iTunes?

Right now it seems so:
http://www.google.co.uk/trends/explore#q=iTunes%2C%20Spotify%2C%20Google%20Play&cmpt=q&tz=

But given that iTunes is waning, and streaming on the up, it's time for a refresh.

If the cloud is the centre of my digital life, why am I managing content syncing through a music player on the PC?

iTunes has been a staple for me since it was released. As it's gotten more complex, I feel that it's suffered from a bit of design impairment. I will always want and need the classic list mode, so I don't want that leaving, but often I'm thinking to myself something like: "So where is iTunes Radio?" or "Oh yeah, my connected devices are those tiny devices up there rather than those in the sidebar". For a piece of Apple software, it's not nearly as intuitive as it needs to be. At some stage, they probably should have split the music and store apps into two separate ones like they did with the iOS versions, but I suppose it's too late for that. Plus they want to integrate 'buy' with 'listen'.

I really miss the sidebar in iTunes...
I honestly can't even remember how iTunes looked before version 11. Sometimes when I read comments like that, I have the feeling that people just don't want to get used to things. Just like
And they didn't even bother changing that horrible salmon-colored icon. That is sorely needed. I simply edited the icon in Pixelmator and made it blue instead.
What does it matter what color the iTunes logo has? I literally got used to it in two days.

What I find particularly lacking in iTunes is something like extension support. I would just love to have something like a VST/AU-wrapper in it or some other way to implement more advanced audio tweaking. I actually use foobar2000, as it's the only player that comes with free plugins that I need. It's running okay in crossover.

Are these outlines a glitch or did they genuinely think this was a good idea?

I don't quite see what you mean - sorry. I'm trying to look over the image to see what's wrong with it, and I can't see anything that's jumping out. Is there something vastly differsome about the edit function they had before, which has been around for, well, as long as I remember?

I backup with itunes and otherwise try to stay out of the app with its constant changes and ever-confounding user interface.

What must it be like to be as hip and trendy as you? "It's new, it's better, it's mine."

If you really want an answer to your rhetorical question, which I'm sure you don't, then here you go: The salmon-coloured icon looks like ******. Still. And since it's in the dock, it's a constant eyesore.

Sadly, the iTunes UI design is hardly intuitive these days, and that's what many people mean when they think about some of the ways previous versions were better. They're not all trying to go back to cathode ray tubes as you seem to be implying.

My iTunes updated but i don't see the widget???? It doesn't show up in the edit menu bar in the notification centre.....

The outlines around each field were not there on the previous version, at least not for me.

I'd love to change the icon, too. I once knew, but have forgotten how to paste in a new image. Would you mind giving a brief explanation, and maybe posting your edited blue icon? I'd be very grateful! :)

Yeah, sure thing. Have a look at the 'solved' response at the top of this thread on Apple Discussion forums. I'm 'lazarusnine'. If you have any more questions about applying it to your iTunes icon, let me know.

Ah, I see. Thanks for pointing it out. While it doesn't particularly bother me, I respect why it might to someone else!

Do you have any other app recommendations for listening to music stored in iTunes? I'd like to know of some if you have one or two you like. I have Spotify, of course, but I'm always interested in hearing about new players.

Love the classic list mode; it's the only way I use iTunes. I recently subscribed to iTunes Match and it's so awesome having my entire iTunes music library right on my iPhone without having to use up all of my phone's storage. Apple really hit a home run with iTunes Match :)

I care a lot more about the alleged improvement in syncing performance than I do about the widget!

(i really don't know any OS X users that regularly use their notification center)

I do regularly as I deactivated the widgets dashboard in Yosemite some time ago. Now it's the fastest way to check the weather or do some easy calculations.

But I got your point, sometime this week there was a discussion around about the spotlight feature in iOS, which seemed to have been used by nearly everybody but myself
