I've always just dragged and dropped or right click > add to playlist. How is it any easier now?
Previously when clicking on the three dots ... next to the song, you would have to click on + add to playlist to expand the sub-menu, and then click on the playlist. Now the sub-menu items drop-down automatically when highlighting add to playlist. Maybe I exaggerated a bit but the way it was before made it seem real clunky.

by your own math, you're spending $1k, not $3k. For a phone that's arguably the best in the world. I heard a discussion the other day of someone seeing Michael Dell using a non-iPhone, and realizing, "there's a billionaire, and I"m using a better phone!" The iPad and Macbook Pro or iMac aren't too shabby, either. :)

Well, what you think is better may not be seen by other people as "better", just saying...;)

while Tech-Crunch said "its unclear what this entrails" , its just based on neither does Apple for that matter, since if they knew, they could have re-produced it. And if Apple doesn't provide anything, then what do we go on ? How can u get proof on a documentation of something u have not been able to produce ? Will it read "We are getting there... Stay tuned for further updates."

I'm so unimpressed that recently added is now a sub-view only. I don't want a permanent sidebar and I liked the ease of seeing a few brand new things at the top and being able to scroll to immediately see old things.

Also it's still annoying the Apple Music only shows under "For You, New and Radio" instead of a simple "Apple Music" tab, or better yet automatically integrate it with the iTunes Store view

Article Link: Apple Releases iTunes 12.4 With Design Tweaks [Updated]

Damn. I spend my entire time flitting between music and podcasts. Why did they have to make that harder? Can you cue up podcasts and music in the same "up next" queue yet or are they still such different concepts that they aren't allowed to move from one to the other yet?

I worry about iTunes. To clean it up, Apple are going to have to abandon so many different niche user groups.

It installed and worked without problems but it "updates" the library which seems to include changing every file in the library. Now Time Machine is busy with 57Gb of files to backup!

Sync is there... just did it after the install. Backup to computer works fine too - did that as well.

Thanks, I took the plunge, and nothing I normally use seems to be missing. Phew.

I don't know if it's been said, but 12.4 is actually faster as well. The App picker loads more quickly, and scrolling through the views with album art is much faster.

have a look in the updates section of the Mac App Store. That's where my update appeared

For me (on OSX 10.11.5 as of today) iTunes updates NEVER show up in the Mac App Store. I sometimes get iTunes telling me there is a new version, and that launches the App Store, but finds nothing. I wind up going to the iTunes site to download the full installer.

Any ideas why?

I had thought I'd uninstall iTunes and re-install it direct from the App Store, but searching for iTunes on the Mac App Store also doesn't find it.

I still have iTunes resolution problems from 2 updates ago. iTunes doesn't center right and you can't click on anything. I have to change my resolution for my machine(when I do use iTunes) to normal 1080 which makes my print way to small. This was never a problem til just recently. Anyone else have this or a fix? Tia. If you think a feature is missing keep looking. It may not be where it used to be but it's there whether it's been removed from the right-click contextual menu, moved to a new place in the menu bar or moved to a new drop down, it's there.

You see no cost to usability simply because you don't use iTunes like some of us do!

I suspect there is a difference in how some people use iTunes. I use it for managing my media library but I rarely play any media from iTunes. All of my playback occurs from an IOS device or my AppleTV. So I switch between media types fairly frequently.

If someone used iTunes mostly for playback I could see where they might stay in one category for a long time without switching.

One step closer back to perfection: iTunes 9
I've been contemplating a move back to iTunes 9. There haven't been any positive improvements made since then and a lot of bad changes have happened. Moving back to iTunes 9 would require me to maintain a separate copy of iTunes 12 in order to sync to newer IOS devices though. I hate that kind of complication.

Exactly, we use iTunes in different ways meaning that different interfaces are suitable for different things. The Old Icon system allowed you to essentially swap down to a drop down menu if you wanted, but have the icons also if you wanted, instead of forcing us into the drop down menu.

I completely agree. I would prefer to have the buttons back.

This will likely be buried here in the comments and it does have relevance but can anyone recommend an app (ios and/or OSX) that will allow me to play an artist in ascending album order? ITunes still doesn't. I have tried cesium and it allows me to sort in ascending chronological order but I can only play one album at a time.

You can do it in iTunes itself. Switch to artist view. From view options or cmd+j sort albums by year.

I'm indifferent to most of it, but one little thing that's bugging me is how that when I view my albums it puts compilations in an entirely separate section with no ability to turn that off. I'll live.

I thought 12.3 looked quite elegant and stripped back in the way it needed to be with the icons at the top. This latest update looks ugly and clumsy. The 'up next' button (which is something I use a lot) looks dreadful where it is, it looked much nicer when it was integrated into the playing window. I'm one of those rare people that really likes itunes, and have been using it for a decade, but this update is visually a step back from the previous one.

Great finally to have the sidebar back. Apple developers - write out 100 times: "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

I'm not flustered by the sidebar reappearance or menu controls as I always had mine set to be there. But apparently not many of us still routinely uses Genius while playing music. I've read through all twelve pages and I only saw reference to a handful of comments regarding the fact that the ability to start Genius from the currently playing song has been COMPLETELY removed from iTunes, replaced instead with "Genius Suggestions"(?) and another variation called "Genius Shuffle" buried in the controls menu. The problem is, Genius Suggestions just lets you pick another song similar to the one you're currently listening to and Genius Shuffle does just that; starts on a random song regardless of the song currently playing. I can no longer start a Genius shuffle based on the then currently playing song a it's no longer in the pop up menu when clicking the ellipsis behind the song in the library nor in any of the menus. I have a fairly large library and 75% of my listening was done via Genius. This kinda blows (in an admittedly first-world way).

Note: It appears they're deprecating Genius altogether as "Update Genius" is no longer an option under the Accounts menu either. Me thinks Apple is getting a little too heavy-handed with their Apple Music push as I can start Stations and all that crap pretty easily which I have zero interest in doing. I like my music, thank you very much.

Likewise, my crossfade doesn't appear to be working anymore either...

It seems they removed the ability to right click on a song and convert it...
